Same here in the beginning where we see link falling from the sky it sound like the botw theme song I seriously thought my mind was playing tricks on me for a sec
Except BotW2 music first and BotW second means sky island gameplay takes place in the past and sets up future events for BotW. So what you have here is a prequel-sequel where you play events both before and after BotW. Much like we did in OoT where you had child and adult timelines. The difference is you're playing as the Hero of the Wild and a completely different Hero from the first Calamity.
Yes! This goes exactly with my theory. That Skyward sword being the earliest game in the timeline and BOTW being at the end of the timeline as we know it..... means the game's story may revolve around the Ancient hero actually being a time traveling BOTW link all along and we are going to complete the loop of the entire timeline of all Zelda games!!!! This confirms my theory (intuition based on previous Zelda experience) that BoTW and BoTW2 are a complete story stretched over two games rather than stuffed into one. The BoTW final boss fight (if you could call it that) would be the equivalent of the game's miniboss if the story were crammed into one game. The can of worms you poked at with the end of the BoTW2 story being the beginning of the BoTW story isn't as messy as it first sounds, and it doesn't HAVE to involve time travel (though there is a chance it might). BoTW was supposed to usher in a new era for the Zelda franchise: a new way for general gameplay, content, and story depth to meet the expectations of new fans coming in from various other fandoms. BoTW was the beginning of this new "cycle, possibly the first "half", whereas BoTW2 would be the second "half", completing the first pass through the cycle, before said cycle would repeat itself with the next mainline Zelda game. It's certainly interesting to consider, but I do admit it would be annoying to play the first half of the story, wait a handful of years, then play the second. Unless this is a jump off into a new style or platform with enough regular incoming content to keep us occupied between installments? In the trailer you can see a reverse-Stasis on a spike ball → rewinding time seems to be a theme which also appears in the theme, since the beginning and end are swapped and both reversed. It all makes sense.
It really comes as no surprise as the absence of the sky islands in BotW but the Zonai ruins being buried deep underground suggest the scenes with the islands took place in the past and the original calamity brought them crashing down. So BotW2 contains playable parts of key events for a civilization that will end and set up the beginning of BotW as referenced by the music. How though? Relived memories? Time travel? An infinite cycle.
wouldnt make sense, as the tapestry doesnt say anything about the sky islands plus it was originally going to be a dlc, so they wouldn't add that much depth to something that was going to be a dlc
@a a That position is illogical. If the scope were small enough to be a DLC, they would have kept it that way. Two facts are against you. The first fact is that the concept was apparently big enough that a DLC would not do it justice, so they made a whole new game. The second fact is that if the concept were small and simple, it would have taken them two years or less to develop the game. It has taken them about four years. That is the amount of time it takes for lost new Zelda games using totally new assets. This game uses old assets, yet still has the same development time as a brand new main series title.
Doubt. BotW is just the most recent iteration of calamity Ganon. The calamity has been happening every 10000 years repeatedly for who knows how long. It wouldn’t make sense that it’s only 10000 years prior.
this is an amazing find and demonstration! and it goes well with the theory i had on the day the trailer came out (just gonna copy and paste my tweet xD): Current theory: - BotW and #BotW2 are in self-contained, closed causal time loop - Ganondorf, original Hero and Link are same person at different times - Loop: Current Link travels back 10000 years in time, sacrifices himself by absorbing all Malice, is corrupted, and sealed away
That is mindblowing and crazy, but just crazy enough it could work as the ultimate plot twist. Not so sure about Link becoming Ganondorf, but being the Ancient Hero? You've got a good crackpot theory there.
@@ianlarsen3920 Honestly, I just love the 'hero fallen from grace/corrupted hero' trope, and timey wimey stuff in general, so I'd love it if it was anything even close to that. But given BotW's lightness on story, I don't expect anything crazy like that. One can dream, though
This awesomely supports my personal little theory that somehow the hero from 10,000 years ago is involved in the sequel, and some time shenanigans perhaps
So it's like two parts of the same song, that could theoretically repeat forever. This is the final game in the timeline, a timeline that consists of an unknowable and virtually infinite amount of time with similar events reoccurring. In the first game in the timeline, we see that cycle begin, and now I'm convinced that in the final game, we will see that cycle be broken. I could even see them playing some combination of the two themes in the ending cutscene, but with a proper and satisfying end to the song.
The fact that start BotW 2's theme is the continuation of the end BotW 1's theme is cool and makes sense. However, the ending of BotW 2's theme sounding like the beginning of BotW 1's theme is more interesting, considering that BotW 2 has a lot to do with time, specifically time in reverse. This includes reverse sounding music, and the two mechanics we saw in the BotW 2 trailer: The stasis ball rolling back up, and a droplet of water "falling up." This just got a whole lot crazier.
Glad you joined monster maze. I subscribed and now following on Spotify. I love music with all my heart and zelda just as much. Glad to have found ya channel
This game was intended to be a dlc, however there was so much content, they decided to make a full game instead! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work Tim!
Also, this seems similar to how Kylo-Ren's Theme builds off the end notes of both the Imperial March and the Emperor's Theme (as opposed to the Episode I Victory fanfare and Rey's theme both being modal changes of the Emperor;'s theme).
"Go around! Go around and around and around! What fun! I'm so happy! I'm a music man who loves to go around and around! Go around and around!!! I'm trying to come up with a musical theme inspired by this windmill...going around and around and around!!!" This is making me think of the windmill man from OoT and the Song of Storms 😭
Watching this after the September 2022 Nintendo Direct announcement! This theory is right! The Orobouros of the two dragons eating their own tail! The songs loop infinitely! Damn it Nintendo how do you do this!?!
With the ouroboros imagery from the trailer that just came out, it seems almost certain that your discovery that the themes interlock points toward some kind of time loop shenanigan in the sequel. Thank you for your wonderful discovery and theory Tim de Mann!
I noticed that in the 2nd botw 2 trailer music when the key change happens there is this high-pitched flute that sounds a lot like the same notes that are at the beginning of fi's theme from skyward sword so I think Fi and the master sword are gonna have a big role in the sequel.
I totally agree. Coupled with Nintendo re-releasing skyward sword, and the islands going back into the sky, and zelda hearing the sword in BOTW, there are going to be HEAVY connections.
I did had noticed that the BotW2 music trailer sounded like the BotW1 music trailer. I was so used to listening the BotW1 trailer, it was evident when I heard the BotW2 trailer.
There is also a clue about the loop by looking at the botw 2 logo. So at the logo there are two ouroboros eating one and another shaping a circle that symbolizes a never ending cycle aka the time loop.
What's funny is that I've seen games do something like this before thanks to time travel shenanigans. The end of Bayonetta leads to the events of Bayonetta 2 (naturally) and the end of Bayonetta 2 creates the antagonistic force of Bayonetta. A Grandfather paradox of intertwined stories.
It reminds me a lot of how the intense final boss theme of Donkey Kong Country was retooled into the light and carefree introductory stage music for DKC2.
If outer space is involved, I hope it's the nebula where the three goddesses originated. If space and time travel are involved, just like how the Flash becomes the lightning that gives him his powers, what if BotW Link becomes the reason why past Link and Zelda can even defeat Ganon
Great video! I think that the theoretical loop is bigger than what you are describing though. My theory is that the events in BOTW lead to the events in Skyward Sword, creating a looping timeline or a timeline that endlessly repeats the mistakes/events of the past one.
I just wanna say there’s a theory that is that hyrule is in a loop. And that the end of BOTW2 is the begining of skyward sword. And everything kinda loops which is crazy that the theme even loops with it self
@@demantim lol I predicted it would be related to this ever since the first trailer when we saw all the zonai stuff and the reversed water drop and link’s design resembling the ancient hero with the green hand and long hair
This make my theory that Link selas ganon and get stuck in a time loop with ganon in the past and Zelda and the world continues forward (the last sacrifice).
7:12 Let me go somewhere with this. Like you said, BOTW 2 will start after the events of BOTW (of course since it's a sequel). But, sometime during the story, link will go back to the past and change history by defeating ganon himself before the calamity ever started. And so BOTW will begin again but without the destruction of hyrule ever happening.

It wouldn’t make sense that it’s only 10000 years prior.
this is an amazing find and demonstration! and it goes well with the theory i had on the day the trailer came out (just gonna copy and paste my tweet xD):
Current theory:
- BotW and #BotW2 are in self-contained, closed causal time loop
- Ganondorf, original Hero and Link are same person at different times
- Loop: Current Link travels back 10000 years in time, sacrifices himself by absorbing all Malice, is corrupted, and sealed away
One can dream,
though
Plot twist: BotW2 is actually a sequel to the movie Tenet.
Glad to hear that, welcome! =D
I definitely heard a similarity between the two, but never thought to play them together.
very interesting, in the Zelda series, the music and remixes or reversed music have always a meaning.
“All my sheet music is free for everyone”
I love you take my subscription
Time and time again I come back to this video. I love the chaotic energy from Tim
Cool
This game was intended to be a dlc, however there was so much content, they decided to make a full game instead! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work Tim!
Source?
Where's the source?
Majora's Mask lol
Absolutely not true
That’s what I thought
And with the reveal of the logo this makes complete sense! Thanks Tim!
It's weird to stumble upon something like this, but also kinda cool! =D
Also, this seems similar to how Kylo-Ren's Theme builds off the end notes of both the Imperial March and the Emperor's Theme (as opposed to the Episode I Victory fanfare and Rey's theme both being modal changes of the Emperor;'s theme).
Nice explanation of what's going on with the music.
"Go around! Go around and around and around! What fun! I'm so happy! I'm a music man who loves to go around and around! Go around and around!!! I'm trying to come up with a musical theme inspired by this windmill...going around and around and around!!!"
This is making me think of the windmill man from OoT and the Song of Storms 😭
Haha, that's a missed oppurtunity! xD He had a major role in my Celtic Song of Storms video though ;) .
Watching this after the September 2022 Nintendo Direct announcement!
This theory is right! The Orobouros of the two dragons eating their own tail!
The songs loop infinitely!
Damn it Nintendo how do you do this!?!
this totally fits into the time-loop theories going on with the lastest trailer!!
Duuude after the title reveal and the logo of the Ouroboros this theory just got a whole lot more interesting
Personally I'd prefer no timey wimey shenanigans, but it's looking more likely than ever! xD
*Hears the main themes combined*
"Do it again"
06:11
Yessss they sound great together
With the ouroboros imagery from the trailer that just came out, it seems almost certain that your discovery that the themes interlock points toward some kind of time loop shenanigan in the sequel. Thank you for your wonderful discovery and theory Tim de Mann!
cant wait for this theme to appear an amazingly 1 time throughout the entire game
Excited already to know more about the game and its music.
Just came from Monster Maze's video, your artistry and expertise really made that video so much better
Welcome Leah, and thanks! =D
🤯! Got goosebumps when you played them together! The end is only the beginning indeed!
Ah, yes. The end is the beginning and the beginning is the end. Cool Dark series reference
There's something about botw2's progression that just is lovely on the ears and romantic. I love it so much
It reminds me a lot of how the intense final boss theme of Donkey Kong Country was retooled into the light and carefree introductory stage music for DKC2.
If outer space is involved, I hope it's the nebula where the three goddesses originated.
If space and time travel are involved, just like how the Flash becomes the lightning that gives him his powers, what if BotW Link becomes the reason why past Link and Zelda can even defeat Ganon
i've got so many goosebumps watching this single video
Great video! I think that the theoretical loop is bigger than what you are describing though. My theory is that the events in BOTW lead to the events in Skyward Sword, creating a looping timeline or a timeline that endlessly repeats the mistakes/events of the past one.
Sure, that'd explain why they're pushing Skyward Sword so hard ATM.
I just wanna say there’s a theory that is that hyrule is in a loop. And that the end of BOTW2 is the begining of skyward sword. And everything kinda loops which is crazy that the theme even loops with it self
See this is exactly what I thought of, but I'm not good enough at music to know what I'm on about. You get it.
Glad to have you on my side!
This is low-key the most believable and impactful theory about botw2 I've seen so far :s
I think you might be onto something.
The logo for The Legend of Zelda: tears of the Kingdom has a ouroboros on it.
Interesting indeed!
Both themes are absolutely beautiful
The reverse shenanigans are it resembling the song that plays during the “10,000 years ago” story thing
The piano music at the beginning of the video is so beautiful!😊
Sounds like a transition to a whole new adventure.
Your videos are great! Hope they get the recognition they deserve!
Holy shit, and the logo of the game is two snakes eating each other’s tails
And there seems to be time travel involved going by the final trailer...
@@demantim lol I predicted it would be related to this ever since the first trailer when we saw all the zonai stuff and the reversed water drop and link’s design resembling the ancient hero with the green hand and long hair
Awesome
Please arrange this as a true music
ohhhhhhhhhhh music theory i like it
i just love to have found your channel your love for music especially video game music makes me very emotional.
It’s an ouroboros for a reason. BotW and TotK are meant to show an end to the cycle, and a reboot or restart.
Wow you actually predicted the logo and probably the plot too!
Haha, not sure about the plot just yet, but the logo thing is funny nonetheless!
That's very clever music composition. You explained it well, too.
This sounds like it makes time-travel theories more likely to be true.
It may also be more metaphorical of course - after Age of Calamity I've had enough time travel for a while =P .
@@demantim No! We need more time travel! There's only been...6-8 games in the series that feature it!
@@Solibrae You make a compelling argument! xD
I always was so into the music that so many people skim over.
Why do I cry when I listen to this music T-T? ... love the video!
This make my theory that Link selas ganon and get stuck in a time loop with ganon in the past and Zelda and the world continues forward (the last sacrifice).
*insert the mindblown smiley*
We're going to live the events in the tapestry...
DUN DUN DUNNNN
7:12 Let me go somewhere with this.
Like you said, BOTW 2 will start after the events of BOTW (of course since it's a sequel). But, sometime during the story, link will go back to the past and change history by defeating ganon himself before the calamity ever started.
And so BOTW will begin again but without the destruction of hyrule ever happening.
Should do one of these about the similarities between outset island and kokiri forest themes
Stuff like this gives me goosebumps
I knew the the beginning of the botw 2 main theme was in the botw main theme I just didn’t think much of it... I probably wouldn’t but I listen to botw main theme a lot
Wow great video! Beyond the game itself BOTW2’s soundtrack might be one of my most anticipated game OST’s ever!
