    Nice test... glad you did the work.

    Zimo LS10 hits hard, ESU Large enclosure is a close second.

    Helpful but would be nice to also provide steam sounds.

    Use rtv or a gasket or a soft sealing type of sealer to seal the cube speaker to the enclosure deadens the vibration to the enclosure and delivers the sound wave properly to the enclosure instead of eliminating this wave by cancelling it out in the form of a vibration to the outside of the enclosure itself. Super glue is too hard and should not be used.I have done a few tests with the same speaker with the same size enclosure and noticeable by ear along with a sound tester gauge .The soft seal has more volume and less noise using the same sound at the same volume and EQ settings.

      many thanks or the info. i will certainly use a sealing compound on my speakers I generally opt for ESU but the Zimo runs very close. It is nice to have such a choice

      I always use contact adhesive for speaker glueing, it dries to a rubberised finish, superglue should never be used for anything in model trains imo, i buy these and make my own slim enclosures for N gauge uk.rs-online.com/web/p/miniature-speakers/1176049/

    Great video. When installing do you glue them by the silver side or by the enclosure?

      Thanks! Each speaker has a thin, plastic frame surrounding the speaker diaphragm - this frame matches each speaker's enclosure size. I use a toothpick to run a small, smooth bead of gel CA around the rim of the enclosure and carefully mate the speaker to it, ensuring it's centered so that no CA seeps out onto the diaphragm.

      Thanks, and when gluing the speaker in position in the loco, I imaging the speaker itself remains uppermost. IE you glue the enclosure to the loco?

      Oh I see what you were asking - yes, I always attach the enclosure to the locomotive frame or shell. You don't want the exposed portion of the speaker to be touching anything, including wires, which would result in rattles, distorted sound and will cause undue stress on the speaker, possibly causing it to burn up. The speaker diaphragm needs to be able to move freely in space, though it can be very close to a surface, so long as it's not touching directly.

      Great, that's just what I wanted to know.

    Thanks for that apples to apples comparison. Did you get any data on which had the best frequency response and bass? 'm going to say that the best bass was the ESU with large enclosure which makes sense.

      +Jonathan Hatfield You're right in that the ESU 50321 with large enclosure has the most low frequency content - often 5-10dB more than the others. I published frequency response graphs of each speaker in this video on my site: jtburketrains.freeblog.site/speakerlistening. Thanks for the comment!

    what glue did you use for attaching the enclosure to the speaker?

      Still-Plays-with- Trains for this quick-and-dirty comparison, I used CA. However, CA should not be used for permanent assembly. Some kind of silicone-type adhesive is best.

      @@Musepro7 ok. what brands are easy to buy and good quality? I am unfamiliar with silicone-type adhesive

      @Musepro7  5 лет назад

      @@Just_Another_Railfan Basically any adhesive that dries with a good bond and stays slightly flexible. You can find many different kinds of these glues/adhesives at department/hardware stores. Some people have used Walthers Goo and Aleene's Tacky Glue. After evaluating a dozen types over the years, I've settled on Loctite Stik'n Seal Indoor. It's very clean and easy to apply and creates a strong, air-tight, flexible bond. It can be hard to find so you may have to order it online.
