Thank you so much madam this helped me a lot, I am new immigrant just like you were and was confused since I came here, today finally I can have a good sleep with a plan. happy news for my husband hahaha.
You dont need work experience as a lawyer cause it doesnt count if unqualified to practice law in canada. You just need to sit for the NCA exams after your whole LLB is assessed then your degree would be valued the same as canadian law graduates. Afterwards get your pR. Go to Canada and get your internship or articling done for sometime maybe over a year before writing the Canadian bar exam. Afterwards you would be a lawyer in Canada.
Technically you don’t need work experience but it definitely helps you integrate into the profession. Also, in Canada, lots of NCA qualified lawyers are struggling because law firms are hesitant to give articles to people who have no work experience. Canadian work experience helps you integrate into the work culture here and also, competency helps you get some confidence. So in my opinion, it definitely helps to have work experience. Also, common law country work experience does count! If you’ve worked for a certain time period, depending on the province, your duration of articles gets decreased! I think that’s a pretty good advantage.

Hey sukhmni ! Does the paralegal course offered by many colleges train you for the nca and the licensing process ? is it helpful in for foreign trained lawyers ?

Hello. The truth is that Indian experience in the legal industry doesn’t really count if you’re looking at jobs like legal assistant or law clerk, because the rules and procedures are totally different. But if you are trying to get into contract drafting, for example, there it might count. NCA has nothing to do with the immigration process. You can definitely take the exams from India but you have to figure out an immigration pathway to move to Canada. After clearing all the NCA exams, you are at par with a Canadian law grad. This means that depending on the province, you have to article/intern for a year and maybe take the Bar exams. After that, you become a lawyer and can work as one. If you have no ways of moving to Canada, you can go for LLM Common Law from UBC or York university. That way you won’t have to take the NCA exams and you’ll get a Canadian degree as well.

Hello ma'am...I have studied LLB therafter I have completed 5 years experience as legal advisor in financial organization. Is there any chance to get an opportunity in Canada?
Moving to a new country means starting from scratch. There is always room for hard working people. Of course you will have to get your NCA exams and licensing procedure done. But, instead of thinking of opportunities in Canada, think about your life in india and whether or not there is lack of opportunity in your field. It’s very tough to move countries. Not just financially but emotionally. So you should have a really strong reason why you want to move abroad - be it to any country. Otherwise it can feel difficult to stick through the struggling phase. Hope this helps :)

Studying Law is pretty expensive anywhere outside India. Also, many good universities want you to already have an undergrad degree and only after that you go on to Law school. IF your undergrad is done and you want to come to Canada for your law degree, you will have to take your LSATs, which are pretty tough. If you just want to get out of India, you can look at Europe as education isn't as expensive there as it is in North America. There are also scholarships - but you will have to research.
Hi sukhmani! If we pass the NCA exams are we at a disadvantage from LLM lawyers? Can we still get jobs in top notch law firms of Canada like Blake or Gowling??
You don’t need LLM to get a good job. Many Canadian lawyers don’t have one. Honestly, it depends on many things. Some people prefer to hire lawyers who have local education from those prestigious law schools. Some people don’t care about that. I would say, if you want to aim for top notch law firms with NCA, better to build up a solid work ex and then eventually move towards it (in case it doesn’t work out for you in the first go). There’s no hard and fast rule. LLM is mainly if you want to go into teaching.
You’ll have to be in Canada to apply for any kind of job. Also, many employers need paralegals to have a diploma as it is a licensed profession as well.
Hi mam useful video Thank you… I doubt please clarify asap… I am a LLB graduate from Sri Lanka planning to migrate Canada next year and progress just started.. So, what should I choose LLM or NCA for coming there for in Student Visa and working and then apply for PR?? Please guide me
If you plan on moving to canada on a student permit, then LLM or paralegal diploma would be your only options. NCA does not play a role in your immigration process. If you go for LLM, you can either do a degree you like or you can go for LLM Common Law (here, you won’t have to give NCA exams if you do LLM Common Law) Hope this helps! Subscribe for more information!
As far as I know, you have to do an undergraduate degree (not diploma), to be able to go to Law School. This isn’t something that I had to look into so I cannot be too sure about this.
You will have to take the NCA Exams if you want to work as a lawyer in Canada. Please note that NCA is not connected with your immigration process, at all.

Hi Sukhmani! As a FTL without legal license in Canada how much pay can we expect as a Legal assistant in the very first year of immigration to Canada. Thanks
Depending on the province you’re in, I’d say between 40-50k. However, if you find the right employer (by that I mean someone who sees the potential in you and is willing to take a little risk) it can be a little more. With the right experience (3 years and more), this figure does get much better. For eg, a legal asst with work ex dealing with ICBC cases can get 80k or more after 3-5 years of experience. Roughly the same with Family Law work ex. Corporate assts can get more. So it varies a lot.
Hi mam!! Im from punjab, pakistan. I have completed my 12th here in pakistan, and now im thinking to move to canada for my further studies in law, can you please suggest me whether i should completed my LLB in pakistan and then go for canada for LLM or move to canada right now on study visa . I want to clear NCA exam and practice law there in canada so which option is better for me. I am despiratley waiting for your honest advice.🥰
Hi Zohaib! Studying in Canada can be very expensive. Here, you have to do an undergraduate degree before you can study law. I think it’s better if you study law in Pakistan, give NCA and then see if you want to move here on PR or on study permit. At that point, you can also choose an option between LLM and MBA. LLM is mostly important if you want to go into teaching. Otherwise, many people go for LLM common so that they don’t have to give the NCA exams. If you’re okay giving the NCA exams, you can check out the MBA degree too. It all depends on what kind of jobs you would be interested in - and that’s something you will realize only after you have done your Law degree. If you give NCA and move to canada for MBA, you’d be a lawyer with a MBA degree, which has its own lucrative possibilities. Also side note, life here is very tough. I strongly feel one shouldn’t move to a new country right after 12th. It is important to have a more clear mindset and determination to make such a permanent and expensive decision. Do subscribe if this helped 😊

Hi mam useful video
Thank you… I doubt please clarify asap…
I am a LLB graduate from Sri Lanka planning to migrate Canada next year and progress just started..
So, what should I choose LLM or NCA for coming there for in Student Visa and working and then apply for PR??
Please guide me
If you plan on moving to canada on a student permit, then LLM or paralegal diploma would be your only options. NCA does not play a role in your immigration process. If you go for LLM, you can either do a degree you like or you can go for LLM Common Law (here, you won’t have to give NCA exams if you do LLM Common Law)
Hope this helps! Subscribe for more information!

My husband sponsored my PR.
After completing any 2 year diploma in canada how much time it will take to do law degree in canada?
As far as I know, you have to do an undergraduate degree (not diploma), to be able to go to Law School. This isn’t something that I had to look into so I cannot be too sure about this.
Hey di
one question i also applied for canada under spousal sponsor (PR) file , if a want to do further study , can i do in canada ?
Sure after you get your PR, you can definitely study in Canada. There is a huge fee difference. You pay less as a PR

I can’t say about Australia because I have no experience but definitely in Canada, there is pretty good scope for lawyers. However, the licensing process can take 2-3 years depending on your ability.

Hope you are doing great.
Thank you for this video. I recently came to Canada, started my NCA journey from India. I am trying to find the position of legal assistant, I don’t have much practical experience although I was enrolled in the bar. Would you please make a video on the responsibilities of legal assistant and the skills required. I know such things are already there on indeed but it would be better to listen from a person who is actually doing this.
That's a great idea for a video! :) Will definitely make a video on this.

Do you givr canadaian bar exam ?
We have to. I have not yet.

If I have licence in bar council in India, i can still give NCA exam right?
Yes yes
