I can't thank you enough. Undergrad textbook reading and learning lacks context due to incomplete pictures being drawn. Excellent reduced explanation.

Hi, I'm a simultaneous interpreter student. I wonder how my brain works when I interpret from English into Italian. I listen and speak at the same time. I say what I've heard and I might say what I reckon the speaker is saying. I recognize when I'll have to finish my sentence through prosody. I leave my right ear covered with my headset and my left ear uncovered for controlling my output. Is it better to cover my left ear as information will have to stay in the left emisphere or is it better to hear the original from the right ear because it is controlled by the left emisphere? How does that work? Actually I interpret in chunks of information, I listen 3 seconds and then I say the first 3 seconds while I'm listening to the next 3 seconds and so on. Timing my vary. I might have to wait a little bit more or a little bit less. It depends. And it all depends on my knowledge on the topic. :)
