"when you're ready to write the next great screenplay..." I love how encouraging StudioBinder has been and remains towards the ambitions of those interested in all aspects of film.
The epilogue of Martin Scorsese's "Casino" shows Ace's voiceover of how he laments modern Vegas, while the old casinos are demolished and replaced with the new ones we recognize today, which he describes as Disneyland before the final image shows him looking at the audience, breaking the 4th wall non-verbally.
I agree , not every story demands an epilogue. However, for story based on real life, real events , epilogue is as important as the climax of the scene. As the story based on real events, often narrates a particular event, epilogue plays an important aspect to cover the remaining part.
Unforgiven has a beautiful epilogue as William Munny disappears from his prairie home to Clint Eastwood's moving score. Thank you for all the great scenes but mostly - thank you filmmakers!

A few of my favorite epilogues are found in Fanny and Alexander (1984), Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019), The Sacrifice (1986), Hard to Be a God (2013), and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
Excellent video!! I have written a high school comedy involving eight nerd characters and described the future of all eight nerds using the "on-screen text" epilogue as an homage to my favorite films "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", "National Lampoon's Animal House" and "Can't Hardly Wait" that also use this form of the video's title.

Epilogues can make the audience thirsty for more story, provide closure or leave them with utter confusion. I really wish 'American Psycho' had an epilogue. I still don't understand what happened at the end. Great video by the way. Thoroughly enjoy the movie examples and narration is top notch. Thank you StudioBinder.
@@nathangoedeke694 I know. The Scouring of the Shire really has no narrative significance, especially when you are at the end of such a long movie already. All the other ending scenes were more important.
To do a good epilogue is that there is an impact to what the epilogue means but more importantly what it represents!! This could be words or images used in a symbolic manner!!
it's no a movie -- but my favourite epilogue was with Band of Brothers. you've spent 8 episodes hearing these old men telling stories of the war & what it was like thinking they were just the other characters in Easy Company -- only to find that THEY WERE the characters in the show. i very much look forward to watching that final episode, as much i always look forward to watching Band of Brothers once a year during the holidays. (a personal tradition of mine) -- then i put on Saving Private Ryan straight after.
Top notch! As always. Thanks a lot. Your videos are so inspiring! And does it mean that “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” has a twisted Epilogue? Because we know the real outcome to the story. Or is it a different thing?
i was today years old when i found out bladerunner had an epilogue lool. when i saw the scene you showed i was like wait wtf i've watched that movie about 5 times now and i never saw that end scene. i mean the fact that ridley decided to remove it from the remastered director's cut which is what i watched reallly shows how endings can completely elevate an entire movie. i mean my gaud, ridley's ending reallly makes the movie, its sooo damn good.
Would you count the newsreel after the wedding in „The Incredibles“ as an epilogue? It is quite early in the film but it seperates two time periods and wraps up the era of heros. It also ends with the phrase „Where are they now?“ so this seems to me very much like an epilogue even though it happens very early.

Best epilogue: Titanfall series After fighting a bad between your team and the other team whoever lose has to escape on the ship before it leaves. No grunts around, no more respawns, just one final thing before ending the game. Either stay alive, escape the battlefield, destroy the escape ship or kill the remaining soldiers with the resources available. It's the clearest ways of knowing that the game has ended, and like the old phare goes "the fight is not over" because that is war
Difference with and ending and an epilogue? Always thought epilogue meant before the ending. Like joker hanging off from Batman and making his speech, then goes on to the ending
I always get a little annoyed whenever I see a textual epilogue in a biopic. It’s just such a cliché to me now. The best one I’ve seen is probably Schindler’s List, because that actually felt in-keeping with the rest of the film, and the final sequence is probably my favourite scene in the whole movie. It does work, but a lot of movies really didn’t need them, Elvis for instance, and I’m glad that movies like Oppenheimer, The Irishman and some other biopics don’t use them. Some of my favourite epilogues include: Goodfellas, Casino, The Avengers, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Godfather Part II, and Zodiac.
Thank you for telling us what movies you'll be spoiling! Other channels, like WhatCulture, just spring the spoilers out of nowhere! I have to watch them with my finger on the spacebar. So effing annoying.
Honestly i feel they rob us of the delious mysterious of what happens next. Thus murdering the film by taking away the drama. A great film ends by cutting mid sentance 1 word away from answering a great question in the film. Its simply delicous like a fine cooked mood.

Yeah that is when an epilogue is done wrong, which is no fault of Peter Jackson IMO. The book just had so many plot points to wrap up at the end.
