  • Fitting the main windscreen bows of the Sonex is one difficult task, take your time and most importantly "don't panic", just swear and yell instead

When you don't have clearance to get a socket onto a nut, consider substituting an MS21042 instead of an AN365 nylock. They take a smaller wrench or socket. I've used this trick numerous times.

Now, that certainly makes for a whole bunch of sense and wonder why Sonex simply don't add those to the hardware or at least make mention on the drawings?

Wow, nice work Andy! Its beginning to look like a real airplane. I noticed the pillow in the cockpit - how many times have you just sat in there and imagined you were in a dogfight?

Thanks Dan, just sat in a few times, still hard to get in and out though as the aircraft is a bit high in the shed

Keep practicing! That is one of the challenges of the Sonex design, you have to work to get in and out of it. I took my 87 year old father for a ride and it was a challenge, as he has some back-related mobility issues. If you are not a regular exerciser, I recommend picking it up both for mobility (to get in and out) and weight (because there is not much useful load and weight is the enemy). I'm back to work and the company gym tomorrow to practice what I'm preaching!

If you have issues with not being able to fit a socket on the 10/32 nut you can use a MS21042-3.
    8/32 MS21042-08 ect
Replace the dash with L for corrosion resistant nut.
MS21043- For high temperature areas like exhausts and turbine engines.
The build is coming along nicely.

Thanks again, and glad you are enjoying the build as I am completing it.

Not sure if you have an aluminum welder, but are you allowed to weld any holes shut and grind them down when you have a hold that you wish you didnt have?

Thanks' Will, I do have access to a metal shop and they will probably do that for me, so thanks for the advise

I'd be cautious about that in general. 6061-T6 is weldable, but then you end up with a heat affected zone. AC43-13 is a good guide for aircraft structures. Basically there are 3 options:
      1) leave the hole as long as you have edge distance of 2X the fastener diameter. The old hole is treated as an edge.
      2) Add a doubler
      3) replace the part
      I've done all 3!
