Cheal I have to be honest, conor was still winning the boxing until his leg was compromised. Still porier took advantage of the compromised leg so hats off to him but I want to know your thoughts
@@NitinSharma-qx4ff facts man. Dustin did everything he had to do but instead the excuse is.. oh well Dustin really isn't that good its just Conor had a bad night.
And if not now i dont think there will be that good of a reason to make it in the future. Tony is 37 years old in two weeks and I dont think he has more that 2-3 fight in him.
Yeah if Conor wants to Sling Shot back into Contention like he says he does Tony would garner the most respect among fans. That or the Gaethje grudge match.
@@Xxrocknrollgod, that was less of an excuse and more of a statement of fact. Conor stagnated out of competition, Dustin grew from fighting guys like Khabib and Holloway, and that showed on fight night.
@Low-fat Milk Love yep if we could numerically quantify the average striking level of ufc as a whole at a certain point A being at Conners rise and B being now. B > A by a lot.
@@low-fatmilklove1187 gsp won a world title after being inactive for 4 years, khabib and stipe miocic also fight once a year... anyway conor wasnt even that inactive he was in the best shape of his life according to his coaches and himself, he also trained 6 months for dustin poirier and fought less than a year ago
Uncle Chael, you take away from Dustin's near flawless performance and perfect game plan when all you talk about is why Conor wasn't at his best. Conor looked great in the first round, he split Dustin's timing with his jabs and left straight, was strong and technically sound in the clinch, and cracked Dustin hard with his left straight(Dustin said so himself). Just because Conor doesn't bulldoze his opponent in the first round of the fight it doesn't mean he wasn't sharp in there. Dustin slammed home those low calf kicks early on and as you know even a couple calf kicks can immobilize your opponent, that resulted in Conor looking flat as the fight went on. It wasn't because Conor wasn't in shape it was because of what Dustin did to him with the calf kicks. Too much is being said about Conor's inactivity and not enough is being said about the best performance of Dustin's career. I suggest y'all go watch Luke Thomas' breakdown and really learn what went down last night.
these ufc company men such as chael are all the same when it comes to this sort of behaviour, if Con-or wins its all out praise if he loses its all out excuses and damage limitation.
Well put mate completely agree. The calf kick was the deciding factor no doubt about it Great performance from DP and his coaches who drilled it espessially. It stands to reason doesn't it? Kick someone hard in the leg it'll make them immobile. It's not rocket science.
Conor looked far from great in the first round, he looked timid, hesitant, sloppy and slow. His boxing focused training has completely uprooted everything that made him special in his early 145 run. He stands in the pocket flat footed with poor head movement hoping for an easy knockout, which is a complete contradiction to his mindset of the old days. Abandoned the karate stance, the light on his feet-bouncy approach, ready to counter but always pressuring. He's a different fighter now, and I do think activity would make bounds of improvement for him, his new style is a poison to his record.
@@JennLove89 Also, mostly because Conor is done. I saw the fight and knew he’s just about done. He’s put in his time. He’s made his money. He’s made a highlight reel and double-titled reign that won’t be forgotten. I’m a bit of a fan of him and his style but he’s just mentally done with the UFC. He’s checked out.
@@zaynes5094 Oh shit well he lost the rematch. And broke his leg. But it is fine he will win the fourth fight Dustin got lucky he was boxing his head off
That's completely subjective though. I don't even like Conor but he didn't look up to standards. Which I think is reasonable to say. And he's the same age as Dustin, so I think saying that he is past his prime isn't a fair assessment. He lost though so "it is what it is"
@@joemfahey Agree completely, was only referring to the comment that said "connor is so old" because no hes not, there were a ton of other things happening but being 32 wasnt one I believe.

Conor was in the best shape of his life. Focused, too. But the sport has advanced and he was unprepared. The leg kicks meta was something that developed while he was away, Conor acknowledged that it was something he's never experienced before. Apart from that, he needs to stop with that flat footed boxing stance ,go back to the lighter in and out style he used to have and focus on countering again. What really worries me, however, is that he was lacking confidence. He was certainly nervous during the walk in, pacing around the octagon and already breathing from his mouth which is a sign he was stressed. Overly eager to start the fight, too. And when the first clean punch hit, he kinda looked like he didn't want to be there anymore. If he wants to be champ again,he'll have to overcome this battle within himself and see whether he can find that assassin mentality again inside of him. If not, he will lose his next fight, and that'll be the end of what could've been an even greater career and legacy.
I believe Conor was nervous because of most of the crowd not being there poirier has already fought with no crowd so he’s used to it . The intensity hits another level
it was years ago now the rules and fighting styles have changed significantly a better fighters can tackle any stance any movements just how dustin did because he was active more
@@momorehan2259 nah man, Conner got caught in his own hype after the Aldo fight and got progressively worse. I agree Dustin has got better, Conner is flat footed, looked weak abs slow too
That’s up to Aldo fight where he got the lucky punch in 13 seconds, in a rematch he is getting killed for sure. It’s like what happened with Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. Junior won the first by early 1st round knockout, the second and third were won by Cain he mauled him and rearranged his face. That’s it lucky punch he got Connor.(against Aldo only).
I’m gonna be honest Conor to me didn’t look slow or off his mark I truly believe that he had absolutely no idea on how to handle a calf kick, please don’t discredit Dustin’s win
Correct. The game left him at least 2-3 levels behind. The calf kicks, flurry punches, early takedowns... Poirier could’ve finished Conor the same way with 10 seconds left in the 5th round, and so I believe this version of Poirier beats the best versions of Conor.
I think you’re correct, but with that being said, it just wouldn’t occur to me that someone like Conor would make that kind of mistake. Look at his featherweight run, and he was excellent at handling kicks.
I agree in the first round I think Conor looked good same with Dustin. In the beginning of the second same thing but I think that leg kick broke him. This fight could have gone either way. Even Dustin said he caught a hard left and if there was one more he would have been out. I think a second fight would be the same. People are so caught up in thinking that Conor is overrated to admit that it was a good fight. It was short but both were one mistake away from a knock out at that point and Dustin got it. It was almost like watching a hockey shootout!
100% conor looked good in the first round. Dustin took some shots. Even dustin said conor hurt him. Dustin is jst this good. He grew up and trained and fought his ass off. Dustin needs all the credit.
Remember when everyone was saying Conor looks in crazy shape coming into this fight? Now he looks out of shape and slow. Stop making excuses for him. Dustin's the better fighter in 2021.
Yeah well but of course there is a difference between the shape of your physical appearance and the shape of your fight game that is product a lot of different factors. He fighting was very off but his body looked great imo. Did you not have the wit to make that distinction yourself? Pity.

No he wasn’t, no one said he was rusty after the Cerrone fight, Poirier is the better fighter. He had a game plan and threw low calf kicks that are very hard to check. The entire camp we heard about how good he is how it’s the best version of Connor. Poirier is better
You just didn’t listen to a single word he said, did you? He’s 100% spot on. Conor didn’t take leg kicks in the past, he ALWAYS made the fighter pay. He didn’t this time. He is rusty asf.
Of course he's gonna say he is in great shape. Turns out he still has some work to do, and he'll be back.....no matter hate him or love him Conor is one of the top fighters to ever do it. Let's face it he won the initial round and then the leg kicks caught up. He'll adjust and the trilogy will be awesome.
I believe Dustin was the better fighter that night but not as skilled. But I also agree 100% with McGregir not living up to his statement of bring the best version of himself. He look the worst I'd ever seen him. Physically he wasn't there and he seemed uninterested or nervous.
Dustin couldn’t even come close to matching Conor’s striking. He looked slow and vulnerable. McGregor had a glass jaw and couldn’t take a punch. Good on Poirier for being tougher, but he was slow and sloppy compared to McGregor. I wouldn’t call it dusting him.
@@apachetrail6232 Yeah, you cant even defend Poiriers speed. Lol Conor having a glass jaw but wailing on a defenseless Poirier for 95% of the fight doesn’t earn Poirier bragging rights.
@@robertdinero347 Yep. Conor can beat him, but acting like he was all rusty is stupid. I rewatched it a few times and Conor's hand speed looked better than in the Eddie fight. Dustin is just the better overall MMA fighter and that's what you saw.
Before the fight: *Conor looks like he's in the best shape of his career, he looks focused, calm and scary, Dustin looked nervous and off in the press conference Conor is in his head again, Conor will knock him out within a round* (Media outlets acted like Conor already won the fight before it took part, Stephen A Smith specifically asked Conor what he would do after knocking Dustin out) After the fight: *Conor had ringrust, he's not the same Conor from 2016, Conor looked slow and stiff, This was the worst form of Conor, His timing was off, He lost because of his stance* Conor is a great fighter but his fanbase is a bunch of whiny children that make bunch of excuses instead of crediting Dustin for the great performance and Chael Sonnen is the definiton of the word "casual"
I AGRE HOMIE, why the fuck is everybody making excuses for conor getting beat? Chael keeps saying Conor didn't check the calf kicks uh that's a lie I watched him check prolly half of em, Conor said in his press conference even that the checked kicks were stilm hurting him pretty bad smh..the nigga got beat period.
Can’t stand this from MMA fans. “His fanbase” don’t go shoehorning everyone in together over a few clowns who haven’t a clue. I’m a McGregor fan and a lot of my friends are as well and not one of us predicted him to win.
That's because timing and physical looks are two very very different things. If you practise martial arts or do any fighting you definitely ought to know that.
It’s called sheer manly aggression and dominance. The vibes and pheromones he exudes are conveyed merely by observing his body language and speaking style. Largely a result of his undefeated record, and sexually intimidating double legs. He’s just too manly and dominant for some people. This causes a biological reaction in betamales, causing them to misconstrue this as “bitter and salty”.
This a rare occassion that i disagree with uncle chael: connor wasnt weak or scrawny. Dustin admitted he got clippped with some dangerous shots by connor. He hit diaz hard enough to drop a horse no doubt but he didnt hit either guys hard enough to turn their lights out ( Jeremy stevens style). Connor lost to father time. Thats the truth!
Come on Chael, you know Conor actually looked great, in beautiful shape, confident and everything else...... Dustin is just, for that night at least, the better fighter. And this has been a fact about Dustin for the longest time. Love both the fighters but the amount of underestimation that Dustin still gets to this day is insanely disrespectful. As well as Chandler and everybody wants to hop on his bandwagon too. Typical two faced fight fans
I feel like this was the best version of Conor I’ve seen. He was fast, snappy, accurate. He was in good shape even by conors standards. That night Conor was better then porier by what I saw. But dustins game plan completely canceled conors out. He was completely outclassed on the feet and Conor landed more in the clench. But the calve kicks caught up to conor and just wasn’t adjusting.
@@Pindr207 definitely man, if you know fighting and watch alot of mma. Its obvious connor looked very off. But also Dustion beat him, hes incredibly underrated

Chael along with many others thought he looked in amazing shape before the fight even many thought he looked better than poirier including big fans of poirier. Seems like excuses bc a hype train got derailed in the most unexpected fashion. I also expected more from chael
yea I'm disappointed. the only interesting thing chael saw from Dustin was him handing mcgregor a bottle of hot sauce. did he watch the fight everyone else saw?
@All_lives_matter, reject fabricated racism by govt yeah I know he’s better. Idk why Connor didn’t throw his front kicks and wasn’t more aggressive in certain spots. Chael too scared to say Dustin is better.
Poirier put on a phenomenal performance, he no doubt gets a title shot, the only person I can think is deserving to be his dance partner is Charlie Olives. Chandler was great but Poirier was right at the post fight conference, he beat a guy he’s already beat. He’s been fighting good talent at Bellator, but let’s be honest none of them would be top 10 in the UFC, maybe not even top 15. I think Chandler vs Gaethje is a great number one contender fight. Gaethje has a chance to come back from his loss to Khabib and Chandler can prove if he is really built for the title. As for Conor, there is talk about the Nate fight for the trilogy, which would be good. I’d honestly rather see Ferguson vs Mcgregor. It’s got a bit of trash talking history, it’s a money fight for Tony which I think he deserves and it’s a chance for Mcgregor to make a comeback for the belt. Poirier vs Oliveria Chandler vs Gaethje Mcgregor vs Ferguson
Seriously if Chandler gets a title shot that would be ridiculous. He had a good night but we need to see at least one more fight. Chaels right though someone needs to speak up and say they want to be champ, I feel no ones doing that, and that's why Chandler will probably get the shot, because he seems to be the only one who wants it. What the hell.
@@geminijeff1 yeah absolutely, everyone’s gone quiet. I think that Chandler will get the title shot because there’s a lot of hype surrounding him currently. Oliveira is on an 8 fight win streak and is a UFC veteran, it’ll be tough to see him overlooked. Poirier admitted Conor had him hurt and probably would have had him in lots of trouble had he followed up right away. That does not mean Conor was weak or in bad shape. Most of what you said here sounds like gibberish. Sorry Chael, mad respect but I think your insights on this are delusional.
Lmao you mook Chael never analyses realistically, he's a promoter. He's saying this stuff because he's trying to set up a story for McGregor's next fight.
@@epyon7773 I believe this is the most impressive way anyone has beaten Conor. But you can also say Conor was fully prepared but uncomfortable in there. They don't have to be mutually exclusive dustin was clearly the better fighter with an excellent game plan
@@Reactiverse22 yeah mostly because of the hype train, that the same people created by making it about him. Anyother fighter with connors exact resume, would be considered a solid fighter. And im a huge connor fan(50% irish).
He should do the Nate fight and then fight Dustin again. I think he would bust Nate up and then he could beat Dustin. If you take out those leg kicks, Dustin was getting outboxed and outgrappled. If Conor finds a solution for this kicks it’s his fight 100%.
A fight against Tony actually makes a lot of sense, therefore it won't happen. Then again the Nate trilogy also works, with them both coming off losses and nowhere near title contention.
Tony an McGregor makes sense to me its a very interesting fight as i think a loss for either of them is a very defining moment would be a career ender imo
Chael's connor bias is nauseating at times.... This result is what happens when u take years off and and pick opponents like cowboy, while dustin has been fighting killers for years and improving every time.
"Looked out of shape"? just 2 days ago u told Stephen A. he looks like a million bucks. As for that first takedown, it absolutely was not a fluke u should watch your buddy @Luke Thomas breakdown of this fight, particularly that takedown in the first round where he even broke down how Dustin adjusted his right foot to angle slightly to the outside so that he would be in a better position to complete that takedown. As for looking slow, I don't know what fight u were watching, his jab looked pretty damn fast to me, as did his famous left hand. In fact he landed the left hand clean more than once, Dustin was just able to eat them just like Nate did (minus getting dropped). He landed just as many shots as Dustin did in the first round and some very astute MMA people even gave him that first round (Kevin Iole and others). U need to stop making excuses for Connor, just admit ur prediction was way off and u have a blind spot for guys like Connor and Koby Kaos Kovington. This was a terrible analysis, you should watch the fight again and do another breakdown.
Sometimes I wonder why I still watch Chael for fight breakdowns. He still thinks Conor actually had a chance against Mayweather, when it was clear that Floyd was just playing with him for most of the fight.

Being in the best shape doesn’t mean you have the best game plan. I’m not sure what his reasoning was behind changing his stance, it opened himself up so widely for dustin’s kicks.
Please sad toxic fans dont come at me but that was not the Mcgregor of the past. His whole style was different, and not for the better, he was flat footed and the killer instinct in the first round when he hurt poirer was non existent
Well done Dustin. Turned it around beautifully. McGregor looked like he could have knocked him out but then boom 💥 But this fight proved one thing and one thing only. None of these guys are on Khabib's level.

Literally makes me a little upset. Like you say he will lose all week then can’t say how he did anything right except leg kicks? Dustin is getting absolutely no credit. They are just pulling the “Conor wasn’t normal” card.
Conor is 1-2 at 155. I think the problem is Conor's interest in boxing. He's brought in the coach from his old boxing club and I haven't seen any touch butt guy for movement or any specialist grappling partner (although john Kavanagh is a bjj black belt) on his team. Max Holloway isn't sparring and put on a clinic against Kattar. Conor's boxing is the best when his movement isn't being stifled so he doesn't need extra training there. I think he needs to take a leaf out of Holloway's book in terms of boxing sparring. I reckon he needs to work on everything but boxing in his next training camp.
I've noticed that he's moved quite differently since the Khabib fight. His stance seems more planted and flat footed, I miss the old quick and fluid Conor.
-_"When Conor got up from that exchange, he was no different. Not meaningfully,... but he was different, it changed him._ _It also... offered a threat. The threat of a takedown is just as effective as a takedown._ _..._ _That's where the fight has started to change. Not only Conor got up a little bit more tired, but now he has a threat of a takedown."_ Nope. This takedown only showed that Poirier is able to do it. But it had no impact on the result. Moreover, I would argue it was more beneficial for McGregor than for Poirier. Yes, it went through, but Poirier has not realized its potential. He did nothing. Beyond that, McGregor has overpowered Poirier with ease and got up quite quickly. That really surprised me (and he talked about that at the press-conference). To me, after that scramble POIRIER LOOKED VISIBLY MORE TIRED, while MCGREGOR DID NOT. After they split, Poirier immediately ate several significant strikes which rocked him, and missed his own shots, respectively. Poirier lost the first round, he was outstriked and outgrappled. Thus, I think the opposite, it showed both of them that takedown from Poirier perhaps is not that dangerous for McGregor. So McGregor neither was tired nor much threatened by a takedown. And what are you talking about? Successful takedown created a threat? The threat of a takedown is ever-present in this match-up, regardless of previous attempts, if any. What has really changed the fight, and it is clear as day, is those calf kicks. Sure, Poirier had started to lay the foundation in the first round, but where you can see it started to go downhill for McGregor - is around 04:45 of the 2nd round. After two more crippling calf kicks the damage began to settle. The leg was just incapacitated. McGregor started to lose movement speed drastically, and soon his punches did, too. After few more faltering steps, Poirier just fell on him with an avalanche of blows, because McGregor couldn't move away, and Poirier was ready to eat a few more counterpunches in the process. To conclude, I see it as a strategic victory/loss. McGregor looked promising and generally had outplayed Poirier on many levels in the beginning, but he allowed to lose a leg. And having only one leg and no ground game plan, you are almost guaranteed to lose in a stand-up fight.
Chael: Okay here are my excuses for why my prediction went wrong. I mean Connor didn't make one! Stop doing it for him and accept superiority of Dustin ❤️

Only way you get away with that in training is when you train with tuna cans that don’t CAPITALIZE on mistakes made during sparring. he doesn’t need people to be rocking him during sparring, but he needs guys that can/will give him the level of competition he needs. I saw clips of his sparring, he spars with CANS. i honestly would whoop his sparring partners with the way they boxed. You’re only as good as the guys you train with. He dulled his own blade overtime. Part of it is inactivity, but the quality of your training is just as important. You can spend 10 years training with low caliber partners, but you’ll still lose to the guy who spent 1 year training with champs.
I think chael is very wrong in this one. Mcgregor looked really good, fast and sharp for most of the first round until those calf kicks started adding up. You could see him slow down because of his the calf kicks, not his conditioning or ring rust. The calf kicks were the main issue, if Dustin didn’t throw those mcgregor was gonna win. But Dustin fought a good intelligent fight, and won me a shit ton of money hahahaha
Except his whole team, including him, had been saying this is literally the best he's ever been. I don't buy the excuses. He got beat. His leg got torn up, and he's too one dimensional to be able to adapt to that. Years after his debut, he's not evolved at all.
when you tell yourself you’re the best you become lazy cuz you think you don’t need to evolve...meanwhile guys like dustin out here WORKING in the mud. Talent will only get you so far, stop working and you’ll eventually be outworked by the hungrier guy. and last night that was the DIAMOND 🤙🏽💪🏽🔥🔥🔥
Ufc 178 Conor would’ve beat that Conor last night, he’s gone backwards. Needs to get rid of his boxing obsession and go back to being that bouncy energetic style where he just picks people off instead of trying to steamroll everyone.
@@lrtvhighlights3687 well if we compare appel to apple conor is better, conor KO-ed dustin inside 90 second, dustin beat conor inside 2 rounds. simply Dustin was the better man this time. The 3rd one will let us know who is best, don't you agree?
Conor needs to look elsewhere next. If Poirier is fighting for a belt next, it should be against another guy. Giving Conor a title shot is favoritism and not gonna sit well. I didn't buy it, but McGregor said he was very happy with his training camp. His interview was almost as convincing as it was prior to the cowboy fight - almost. Dana also assured that Conor was there in the right frame of mind. Conor's strikes were far better than against Khabib, but it seems to me he has in his last few fights trying to amend his weaknesses, that he has lost his allround game. Against Khabib, he clearly had trained to handle the takedowns, but his striking suffered immensely. Against Poirier he had trained his striking, but his karate is none existent. To be frank right now, Conor looks like a guy that just got up from a year with alcoholism(not saying he is). He was hungry and sharp against Cowboy, but that guy is gone again.
Conor is done. He's lost his zip, his mojo. His lifestyle from 2017 on has caught up with him. His drinking, his drug use has messed him up. His inactivity has also slowed him down. Three fights in 5 years can't keep you sharp
As far as the 3 fights in 5 years ur right. As far as the alcohol u are right when he fought khabib, this fight and the cerrone fight he had a great camp without any alcohol. As far as the drugs i think you used some urself writing this, never heard this before and no evidence to be found.
Amen. Conor recently stated he is looking for Highlight Reels to watch with his kids. Conor also predicted an earlier knockout. His intentions are misguided now. Materialism and ego is his g-d now. However he is not done if he refocuses. Khabib had a good point and backhandedly did what he hates Conor for, making fun of his family (Conors training team.)
So basically according to chael.... After the takedown Dustin thought... "holy shit it worked......i can't believe it worked... This is definitely going in my daily journal"
SIMPLE -Gaethje vs Chandler -Oliveira vs Poirier for the title Connor can fight Diaz for the trilogy in the meantime as a tune up fight to get back in consistent fighting shape and go from there. Winner of gaethje Chandler fights the winner of Oliveira Poirier.. which would be for a title defense THATS IT

So true!

The calf kick was the deciding factor no doubt about it
Great performance from DP and his coaches who drilled it espessially.
It stands to reason doesn't it?
Kick someone hard in the leg it'll make them immobile.
It's not rocket science.
Preach it man. I watched the first half of this video like...really? This is what's being said?. Goodness

Exactly, I don’t know why chael is saying that Conor looked weak I think everyone agreed he looked great, he just got beat by the better fighter

Yes man he is just talk.. man. Dustin is best.. also Chael said conor was is in worst form. But before fight he said conor was in good shape
Well fucking said
I've noticed that he's moved quite differently since the Khabib fight. His stance seems more planted and flat footed, I miss the old quick and fluid Conor.
Yeah he needs to bring back the touch butt guy
-_"When Conor got up from that exchange, he was no different. Not meaningfully,... but he was different, it changed him._
_It also... offered a threat. The threat of a takedown is just as effective as a takedown._
_..._
_That's where the fight has started to change. Not only Conor got up a little bit more tired, but now he has a threat of a takedown."_
Nope.

As far as the 3 fights in 5 years ur right. As far as the alcohol u are right when he fought khabib, this fight and the cerrone fight he had a great camp without any alcohol. As far as the drugs i think you used some urself writing this, never heard this before and no evidence to be found.
@@Alberto.stegeman Ong he just is a hater
Most people: "it's like comparing apples to oranges"
Uncle Chael: "apples are not apples here"
Undefeated 🔥
So basically according to chael.... After the takedown Dustin thought... "holy shit it worked......i can't believe it worked... This is definitely going in my daily journal"
He is cap. Man. 1st round McGregor won. But dustin is just more powerful man.
SIMPLE
-Gaethje vs Chandler
-Oliveira vs Poirier for the title
Connor can fight Diaz for the trilogy in the meantime as a tune up fight to get back in consistent fighting shape and go from there.
Winner of gaethje Chandler fights the winner of Oliveira Poirier.. which would be for a title defense
THATS IT
Dustin has one of the best lightweight records ever he's taken some serious names. Guy is a different animal at 155lbs
Absolutely. He's 2nd after Khabib.
@@hirumayoichi7517 I think Gaethji 2021 can beat him
@@mahirdaiyan1784 no he can’t
Stop talking about Connor, its Dustin's time. Give him more credit
Let's not kid ourselves and forget the real lightweight goat: Michael Johnson
Not only did he beat Poirier and Ferguson but the OG goat
ARTEM LOBOV
