- HW News’ Managing Editor, Mr. Sujit Nair, holds a discussion with Dr. Meeran Chadha Borwankar, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Maharashtra cadre. Dr. Borwankar, who served in various high-ranking positions during her more than three-decade career, reflects on her experiences in her book titled ""Madam Commissioner: The Extraordinary Life of an Indian Police Chief"". She had been actively involved in seeking justice, including petitioning the Supreme Court regarding the release of 11 convicts by the Gujarat government in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case, which took place during the 2002 Gujarat riots. After retiring from service in 2017, Dr. Borwankar held significant roles such as Director General of the National Crime Records Bureau and Commissioner of Police in Pune.

Good conversation. One question I feel was strange. You asked her if she had a normal life. What is normal life? She was a high profile officer, and naturally have huge responsibilities. Does a person of low profile, struggling in life have a normal life?
But what if the police don't accept the complaint and do FIR? The government of today doesn't want people to join government jobs but they want people to do private jobs to save pensions but they want to eat pensions for themselves

Glorifying Maharashtra Police which i will not agree with at all. I had seen o instance where they just let the buck pass. They are very vulnerable, but in comparison to UP, MP, Bihar yes far better. Compared to Kerala, TN they are not on the same pedestal. I can't comment on AP, Telangana, Karnataka as my interactions are very less.
Rebel IPS. So what is to call her insubordinate... a command is a command. Short hair or not. In a war, soldiers can't look for logic in CO orders. It's failure of India to not penalise and teach rebels like this a lesson.
