She had a build and knew exactly where she was going. What a class act and experienced performer. Knows her craft and her instrument so well. Light and airy to start ratcheted up in power and eventually introduced some rasp, and distortion. Well done.

Exquisite performance! The way she caressed those lyrics with her vocal cordes....Biblical!!!!! This was her moment and HER song but she give us the spirit of Anita in the undertones!!!! The essence and meaning of the lyric was not lost and so we were able to feel the same things we felt from the original but in a way we never heard it before! Great jazzy melodic choices!
letting her hair down, seemed a tad nervous in the opening, trying to catch her breath. Such a sweetness to her tone, loving swoop into head voice and gave us a little grit in the bigger notes. Nice. She was rocking out by the end.

I stopped watching this show years ago but ran across this video. I am shocked to read she went home. That run near the end of her performance was better than even Anita Baker sang. It was incredible and gives me chills every time I hear it. That no one picked her up is dumb.
Yes Nathan did kill his performance BUT with how much Reba loved Val and how POLISHED Val is as a performer it shocked me that no one stole her. Val you will be missed greatly by me and so many people 😢

Val crushed that performance. Perfect song choice for her and she looked so comfortable with no nerves. She sang this like a professional. This was honestly her best performance so far and the best performance of the season. She is my number 1 favorite out of everyone. She is finale material and deserved to be there. John is the best coach for her since she clearly wanted to be on his team from the beginning. John should have chosen her as the winner since she won that for me by a large margin with Nathan getting stolen. She is the powerhouse that makes it to the finale quite often like Wendy, Kyla, Toneisha, Rose, Jershika, Desz. Val is no different than them. Her tone is very unique as well. I loved her lows and her highs. That was utter perfection and was flawless all the way through. There is nothing I didn't like about this performance. It reminded me of Wendy's knockout performance of Ain't No Way. That's how amazing Val was. She was the best vocalist this season I have ever heard in my entire life. I just threw all my shoes.

One thing about competitions like this, you don't pick a coach who has lots of RnB singers. The coach will be left to pick who he likes regardless of your performance.
Reba would have been a good choice for her to shine even more and stay longer.
Also a John top 3 being Gene, Val, and Bryan/Mafe would have been a hell of a team for John and could have been his strongest. It would give me Parijita, Kim, and Omar top 3 vibes if that had happened.

Val is such a great singer and it is clear why she was stolen. I just think Legend's team is so stacked with front runners, that it was an uphill battle for her to make it to the playoffs.

Nathan definitely won the battle. However, I was surprised Chance didn't steal her back for his team. She has a fantastic voice but, I doubt she could compete against Asher who can do everything Val does but, is 10 times more powerful.

This is such a beautiful song, but super difficult to sing. I think it’s best to stick to the original pretty way, sing the main part flawlessly and not over elaborate. Anita Baker sings it so well.
