Ok this feedback from Crooked was so on point. The whole thing is about communication. If you listen to Crooked here, he filled in the gaps. Joel couldn’t give details he just kept saying “y’all turned it down” but when Joe & Royce challenged him , he couldn’t give specifics. The whole thing came down to communication. Sounds like a bunch of opinions about Joe being in the red, the fact is he’s not. Someone mentioned his early record deal and how he failed in that, to failing in radio etc, but these statements are fluff and a form of confirmation-bias. Fact is, Joe made an excellent point in understanding the terms of a contract that you have to sign can affect you financially. No one in here is doing anything for the “love” the “art” or for a “look” when it comes to signing a contract. You can do the aforementioned freely on your own platform. He did what any of us would have done, which is know what’s in the deal and what it came with, especially if you have something to lose, a la ownership and control of something you’ve built or help establish. People and their narrative building is hilarious

@@jjsvizard75 He only had one major deal, which was with Def Jam and he was like 19-20yrs old at the time. He hasn’t been on a major since then. He had a pub deal with E1 in the late 2000s, then they did the Shady deal as a collective, but joe was never signed as a single artist. He recognized that the success of the collective was waning under Shady due to the two audiences the group and Em had were vastly different and Joe wanted to renegotiate the terms. Joe had the foresight after negotiating the LOHH market, which was new at the time and made a success out of it, so he knew he could leverage his visibility to evaluate the collective. The problem was Joell and Crooked were more about the art side of it and Joe was on the business side of it. As fans, we just want the music, but we all know if the shoe was on our foot, we’d do the same thing Joe did in this case. I look at like your current employer when it’s time for the annual review: are you doing it for the love or will you leverage your tenure and accomplishments to get a raise? Let’s analyze how Joe built the podcast space and internet news with Complex. We talk about the Spotify deal, but we only focus on the perception he fumbled the bag, instead of gracing him the space to decline the deal due to stake of ownership and control. All he did was leverage his platform to gain intel and he got it, which allowed him to learn more on building his own ish. We can learn from that if we want to control our ownership. You will have your people whom do not mind signing deals and losing some leverage in order to make a bigger play, but in the end you are only positioning yourself to be a part of something that isn’t yours when it’s time to leave.

Men must, at all times, communicate like men. When they deviate from this healthy mode of communication, you'll only produce unhealthy-minded relationships.
Sit down either face-to-face, a virtual chat, or the plethora of other modes of communication where you can say share your perspective, I can share my perspective, and we can arrive at a mutual understanding from direct communication.

Only thing I don't like is whenever Crook talks about this deal and who it was that has the deal he gets nervous. He's not as detailed. Like why not get your lawyers involved in the deal? I'd have to assume at this point in your careers you have lawyers you trust, so why not use them if for nothing more just to cover yourself. I don't like that.

Notice crook refused to allow actual legal contact/counsel and never gives the details of the contract in interviews. I just know that deal is shit 😂

That don't matter. Bad deal or not, just communicate where you stand and if it works for you or not. It's that simple

@@SpeakHerMusic proof that ppl have no business sense. If anyone believes that Crook could have a custom, tailored to Joe Budden contract made up, why tf wouldn't he have gotten all of them, everything they wanted? We all know that ain't the music business. Crook lyin his ass off.
