These straps (even though some manufacturers put combination locks on them) are more designed to prevent your suitcase from busting open when being thrown around by baggage handlers. It's not really to prevent theft. For those saying it can just be loosened etc....well they can just be cut with scissors too. Again, it's not to stop theft...it's to stop your suitcase (especially hard shell designs from opening when being thrown around.

the access rope Is just hidden you can just lose it and open the whole contraption.
