Sathiratam(சதிராட்டம்) is a fusion of various dance forms of ancient Tamils. Tamils are the Tamil-speaking people living in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore. This 2000-year-old Sathiratam dance is performed in South Indian temples only by Devadasis, i.e. female servant of god. By the early 19th century Sathiratam was known as Bharatanatyam and Brahmins(non-Devadasis) had begun to practice it commercially. In 1935 Rukmini Devi Arundale first Brahmin woman to dance it publicly and she is the founder of Kalakshetra, the first institution to teach Bharatanatyam.
Hello Mayo San (ji) . I just wanted to appreciate your culture. I recently was on my way to the states and took a transit visa in Japan as it was a connecting flight . I was awestruck by the beauty of Tokyo . The people were so humble and helpful even though some of them were not able to communicate ( me not knowing Japanese, and they did not know English ) ,but it wasn't a problem at all. I really respect and appreciate Japanese culture. I would so like to visit it again, this time to Kyoto !
