    Math Sorcerer! You are awesome. I am 41 years old, went back to school in 2021 and started with beginning algebra because I never took it in high school. Fast forward to now and I just passed calc 1 with a solid C! I’ve never worked so hard for a C in my life 😂 but now I’m thinking I want to continue in math because it’s just so awesome. I just bought Thomas’ Calculus so here I go 💪🏽

    Momentum is really important in life, and that comes from your habits. Develop good habits for taking care of your mental health, taking care of your life, following through on things, etc. And it will become automatic. You do better, and then you feel better; and feeling better makes you do better, and so on. Life gets tough sometimes, you can't avoid it. Good momentum will help you keep it together when that happens.

    I am a 24 year old risk analyst from Baku, Azerbaijan. I first came up to your videos last week during work time. I watched your videos where you speak like this. I broke up 4 months ago and it was very unfair towards me. What made me even more sad is that her friends unfollowed me, since it is pretty unfair as well. Watching your videos calms me down, it makes me look at life from a different perspective. "Sometimes things just don't work out" as you say. I now understand that this is just an unavoidable part of life. As Franz Kafka said, "I was ashamed of myself when I realised that life was a costume party and I attended with my real face." I just think I was too "naive" and "sincere" with people that I should not have. To anyone reading this, stay strong. If things like this do not happen, you can never learn not only to love someone, but also to love yourself. To Math Sorcerer, thank you for being sincere and nice.

    39, going to school part time while working too because I picked the wrong career in college so am starting over. First Bf of 4 years broke up with me last month. Broke, living with parents. No real close friends except for one from college but living in other state, and some acquaintances at best from church. I am slowly realizing the meaning of finding purpose in MYSELF, as opposed to to a succesful career, husband and kids, and high societal status/money. I too have been bad at math growing up because I never practice outside of assigned of homework. But for some reason I managed to get a master in actuarial science before I change career, now I am finishing up a Speech Pathologist assistant program. I think that is what you’d call a messy life 😂. But over the past 2 years somehow I gain confidence of facing it no matter how ugly or messy it is, as opposed to to in my teens and twenties I just ran away and seek “easier” path. I think I am ready to continue this messy path now. Thanks Math Sorcerer

Spent too much time on reading interesting things outside the course eg modular forms,umbral stuff etc and not enough on worked examples (we use FIS). Using different sources roman,axler,hernstein helped deeper insights but now certainly everything feels like a mess. Man, this was great advice.
    Also, I think that it is super important for people who are in a bad place to at least have one behavioral therapy consultation... mainly because we tend to adopt patterns of thinking and functioning that are disconnected from reality and can eventualy isolate us from the world. I was in such a situation and it just didn't matter how much excercise I would do or how well I would eat. I first needed to replace those patters with healthier ones, and that could've only be made with professional help. Of course I'm speaking from my experience. I hope this helps.

    I like your advice about taking care your mind (easier said than done) and body. We do not exist in a vacuum, and I think the ability to cope, apply tactics and strategize through/around different situations in different environments isn't a trivial exercise. You can do many things to ensure that the mind and body function optimally, but it's not guaranteed that it will. Some people have much less stable ability in that regard than others intrinsically.

    Your last video about making a goal too large was extremely helpful. I am not in a place where what I'm about to say is the present situation, it is now the past. And I got through most of that stuff by now. But 10 years ago, this video would not have helped me. That message about making a list of positive things would not help me. You know how you looked for bad things, then found them and integrated them into your worldview? Living with that worldview inverts those positive things. I get what you're going for, but this message back then might have made me feel pretty bad, and like I was beyond help because my view was so skewed that I could not find those positive things until I made room for them by removing old things. My perspective has shifted. I think what you're onto is that one has to love themselves. It's not even about appreciating what you have, or what trials you don't have. But loving and appreciating yourself, especially when you think nobody else does, offers the same benefits of receiving love from an external source.

      @@khalidcabrero6204I don't think egocentric is the best way to describe a people who take care of themselves. egocentrism is when when you only think about yourself with *disregard* to other people's feelings, hardships and situation.

    • @khalidcabrero6204
      @khalidcabrero6204 7 месяцев назад

      @@moonchild.7645 But none of the advice proffered above was about other people, or conditioned it on regarding anyone else. Taking care of yourself can be purely functional without being the purpose, e.g. in order to enable you to achieve certain other goals or purposes (take care of family, add to human knowledge, save the world, etc.). But that's not what is being proposed here. Advising to make yourself the purpose can be quite unusual or unnatural for some people. Maybe egocentric is not the right word (or maybe the term carries too many negative connotations). I meant it from a purely descriptive angle. It's certainly not other-centric, nor achievement-centric.

    • @carultch
      @carultch Месяц назад

      Here's what's behind the scenes of quadratic algebra.
      Consider the standard form:
      a*x^2 + b*x + c = 0
      And the vertex form:
      a*(x - h)^2 + k = 0
      The standard form has everything expanded, and is hard to unpack due to the two instances of x. But, the vertex form has only one instance of x, and is quite easy to unpack. Realize that no matter what values of a, b, & c you have, it is always possible to find the a, h, & k that can construct the same equation. The a's turn out to be identical, while the h is directly determined by b. The value of k is what we use as a clearing house for all the left-over constant terms.
      So, if we can rearrange the standard form to match the vertex form, we can rearrange and solve for x. That's precisely how you derive the quadratic formula from first principles, which is a master key for solving ANY quadratic. Expand the vertex form, and line-up terms of the same power of x. You'll see that h = -b/(2*a) and k = c - b^2/(4*a).
      a*(x - h)^2 + k = 0
      a*(x - h)^2 = -k
      (x - h)^2 = -k/a
      x - h = +/-sqrt(-k/a)
      x = h +/- sqrt(-k/a)
      x = -b/(2*a) +/- sqrt(b^2/(4*a) - c)
      x = (-b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4*a*c))/(2*a)

    Thanks, I needed this. This semester hasn't gone well with all everything going on. It's crazy how as the little things add up, everything falls apart. I was doing all the things you mentioned before the semester started, but after a bunch of stuff happened, I slowly stopped doing them. Now it feels like I hit a wall. I'm thinking I might have to take off ONE semester and get things in order and then come back with a summer class before fall semester.

    Lately I've been experiencing an issue, but it's not as significant as the ones you speak about on this channel. For the life of me, I can't stop making silly mistakes. I practice problems daily, yet I still very often make silly mistakes. It's always about forgetting the powers, the signs, and a lot more silly mistakes, that you would probably consider to be 'mistakes of inattention'. And I have never been like that. I don't know what changed, or why this is happening. 😢 If anyone has some solution, please let me know! I'm eager to stop making mistakes. Thanks😅

      I'm no expert of course, but whenever I experience some changes to the worse in my behavior, thoughts and habits I just try to zoom out and overview the issue and break it down from when It first started. Usually it turns out that this change is related to something irrelevant to the subject itself (ex. Family pressure, feeling alienated, procrastinating thus having so little time to actually study which makes me more prone to make silly mistakes etc.).

      Today I did my exam, missed 2 questions all because of silly mistakes. It's nirnal to make mistakes. What I do is go back over questions I got wrong and just try to remember the correct process. I treat math like a second language, makes your eyes cross looking at it.

  • @tochtliochtli7239
    @tochtliochtli7239 7 месяцев назад +1

    Simplify the process, don't be too ambitious and take on something that will also overwhelm you. This makes it easier to create habits.
    Secondly, take it slow. Sometimes feeling rushed can give you performance anxiety. So, come at your task expecting to wittle away at it in manageable chunks.
    Make time for your tasks (obligations, things you want to master, etc). Think of your time like currency and budget! It's a resource you can and do expend daily. Choose and take time to plan where you spend this allowance. Perform your tasks in blocks of time.
    If you fail, get back up and try again

    I have found that when you feel anxious and feel the urge to do something about it, the best way is to stop and don't do it, dont follow the urge. Slowly you will train your body to stop feeling the urge.

    if you find yourself in a bad situation the first thing you need to do is
    1) take responsibility for the outcome. Otherwise you're blaming other factors that you have no control over. If you do accept that you got yourself in this mess, you realize you have the power of getting yourself out.
    2) Set an alarm; set a schedule, and start cutting out things in your life that aren't helping you get to your new goal. You can't get new results with old habits.
    3) Start changing your thinking. Being positive, resilient, focused, happy, resourceful, disciplined, etc is a habit that you create and have to maintain. Good mental health requires the same thing as good physical health; healthy habits.
    I'm changing careers, getting back in shape, and setting very ambitious goals and it feels fantastic.

    re-verse/turn. 3 is two past one. without understanding the foundation one three cannot be fathomed. seeing it requires re-verse engineering. A master stair builder knows there are steps that are not steps. A stair has a starting place of which to step from. The starting place is not a step rather a place to step from. In defining the first step we have already denied the most important position. Where to start.

    My name is Thon Adut Thon from South Sudan Africa. I have been following your videos on RUclips and you have inspired me so much. I have one problem that I need help from you. When I'm in class, I have this fast imagination that easily penetrate deep into what the teacher is communicating and later get lost. This thing distract me from concentrating or sticking to what the teacher has given. That fast imagination gives me pseudo-knowledge that I have understood without mastering the content. So frustrating!! Any idea about this?

    For me huge different makes when i sleep a lot. I totally dont agree with people who claims sleeping is waste of life. But also some exercising is really good for me. I dont even mean hardcore exercises. Just start whatever. Even some walking or jogging. But its also not that simple. Still i struggle a lot with these two things. Two theoreticaly simple things. My sleeping schedule is generally crazy... Im trying to change but ehhh... With exercises im not consistent..

    Im in my first year of physics at university and at first I thought I would have been a good student, that I would study and revise everyday even 7h, the first day I did but then I thought that the thing they were talking about in class were simple or not really important, so I started lagging behind. I feel like it wouldnt be right to myself if I didnt also say that its also because I often feel bad about myself and I get depressed pretty often, leading to a vicious circle of not studying, feeling worse about myself, and not having the strength or will to study the next day too. If I could go back 2 months and try again, I wouldnt the same mistakes I did, but I cant, and so now I have the exams in January and I already feel as if I wont pass, wich makes me feel even worse everyday. I do like math when I have the time to learn it and when I have someone who is willing to teach me without making me feel bad about the mistakes I make, which hasnt been the case nor in highschool nor in university. I feel lost honestly, I feel as if failing these exams I'll become even more worthless and that I just wont ever be able to do it. I have even thought of dropping out because of this even if I know that if I could learn it at my own pace I would appreaciate its beauty more and I would be able to at least understand more things. What can I do? Or maybe a better question is what should I do?

    I feel myself quite lucky in this aspect to be born in India..I found a guru in a very early age for India is known for its rich ancient scriptures and great saints who have already given solution to such problems which is " Advait Vedant and Adhatma", which to put in simple words is knowing and owning your inner self. Is is just difficult to survive in a world so materialistic without inner and rightful conciousness.

    Negativity is rampant since the pandemic, especially across social media. The importance of positivity and mindset and our trusted friend, the law of attraction can literally change your life around within days. My own view is if something goes wrong it's for one of two reasons, it's meant to go wrong because it's not your destiny and god is removing it from your life or no2, you didn't put in enough effort and you lost meaningful things. Either way , extract the lessons from the events and make a plan on how to move forward. Diet, exercise and hydration, such excellent support for your body and mind.
