- The Steelhead hammer might be a nymph or an egg or an egg-sucking nymph! Whatever it is, steelhead like the Steelhead Hammer a lot. There are two major versions of this Steelhead Hammer. The Orvis pattern that has a woven body with a wingcase in the thorax, and this simpler version. I'm all for simple flies especially when I'm bound to loose a lot on the river bottom.

Could I use black or any color similar to match my pattern rather than the stretch floss?
Sure, give it a go. I've never tried different stretch floss colors, I've sure there are some good combinations to be had.
Awesome, thank you.. just a material I've got on hand rather than ordering some floss ATM
You could even skip the stretch floss and just use black thread if needed. I use the stretch floss in place of regular floss because these can get chewed up. the stretch floss is fairly durable and the standard rayon floss gets a little messy.
Piscator Flies oh that's true, I didn't think of that.. stretch legs would get chewed easily of not coated with some UV.. may just try thread as well then like some high 210 denier

No one sells "Super Stretch Floss", so this video is pretty much useless. Found a stretch floss, but can't find anyone selling super stretch floss.
