I live 15 minutes from Bowmanville, and Camp 30, the POW camp was actually for higher up officers; generals, colonels, etc, and nobody was ever intentionally killed or tortured there. They had a great many privileges and were allowed to walk, swim in the nearby waters, play games, leave the premises on occasion etc. The "revolt" mentioned is affectionately called 'The Battle of Bowmanville' and it was a petty protest. They locked themselves inside their rooms and "defended themselves" with hockey sticks and lacrosse sticks. There was one reported injury and it was because of a jam jar.
I live 40 minutes from Toronto and have gone coast to coast in this vast majestic country, can't believe I still have SO much to see and explore. looks like round 2 next year, Thanks for uploading!
I live in British Columbia and I have, on a couple of occasions, while she was in service of BC Ferries in the 1990's, sailed aboard MV Queen of Sidney, from Comox to Powell River. Great memories. Rest in Peace, Queen of Sidney...
I live 10 mins away from "The Guild Inn" and it's currently being renovated. Their Building 2 modern structures that is connected to the main house. IT'S no longer ABANDONED !!!! #FACTS
For many years, when it was owned and operated by a family, this was at least partly used as a sort of artists colony. It was always having money issues. These days it's owned by the City and grounds are frequently used for wedding pictures and fashion shoots. Much of interesting architecture dates from an owner who saved architectural detail from a number of building that were knocked down roughly from 1950-70's.
Hey, I'm one of those kids who enjoyed the 'rite of passage' you mentioned about Partridge Island. Thanks for the shout out, it was really well researched - you totally did the site justice. I grew up with the island right outside of my bedroom window.
Cassiar would be more interesting everyone had to leave when something happened at the nearby asbestos mine and its basically BCs prypyat except you worry about being in contact with asbestos rather than radiation
Nice video Taltanic......What really moved me was your bit on the Queen of Sydney. I was born in 1964, the ship was 4 years old then. My Moms' parents lived on Gabriola Island in B.C. and my family would ride this ferry to Nanaimo, then take a smaller one to Gabriola Is. My Grandparents' home faced the ocean and we could see this ferry as it sailed its' route from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo and back. WOWEE, time has flown and childhood experiences are now just fond memories. I LOVED WATCHING THIS SHIP PASS BY AS I PLAYED ON THE SANDSTONE BEACH.........................
Near Kamloops British Columbia, there is lots of cool abandon gold mines, even an abandon asylum called Tranquille Pandova City. In the 1800s and 1900s it used to be a prision/mental hospital. In the middle of the night if you were near Kamloops lake sometimes you could hear doors slamming and even some screams of terror coming from the old Asylum. There is also an abandoned ww2 military base out by Paul Lake.
I live down the street from The Guild Inn...in 2018 they removed the hotel/inn part of this and the main building is now a restaurant and has a banquet hall in it, the gardens in the back are used for weddings and wedding photos
Awesome video! Just a quick correction about Camp 30 though; it hasn't been successfully bought by the Municipality of Clarington yet but they are hoping to do so so it can be better preserved.
Canada is great, I’ve been to the cole mines! They take you inside the mines a bit and you get to go in the old buildings, they even have a little train you can ride in!
Ive been through stanley parks so many times and never thought to find the remnants of the zoo. Now i have a mission for the day. Thanks for the video fam. And saskatchewen has plenty of decrepit grain bins as well. I call them prairie skyscrapers. There was also the abandoned mcbarge that was a floating mcdonalds built for expo86. It was abandoned near indian arm until a year ago when a salvage company bought it. There rumors that its haunted by the soul of the mcburgular.
One of my first rave parties was held in 1998 at Val Jalbert's old pulp factory, up in the mountain. I used to go there visit the ghost town with my mom when I was young but this event was a huge Halloween party and it was really awesome. It will definitely stay in my memories :) This place is worth a visit if you ever go to Lac Saint-Jean !
Contrary to No. 4 in the video, the countryside of Alberta is not littered with grain elevators. In fact, there were very few left standing long before this video was made. The reason is because of the way they were made. Most were built in the early years of the 20th century and the foundation consisted of a series of crossed timbers, not cement. The purpose of grain elevators was to hold wheat and barley crops brought there by farmers until an empty grain car was available to be loaded, so all grain elevators were built beside railroad tracks. Grain elevators had 30-40 internal bins and as soon as the track-side bins were empty the grain would be shifted to that side. After 70-80 years, the elevators started to lean towards the tracks. The advent of cheap truck transport plus the increasing instability of the elevators meant that they had to be removed in order for trains to keep using the track safely ( plus, with all the grain dust in every nook and cranny, they were a serious fire hazard). When I was a kid growing up in Alberta grain elevators were everywhere; now they are quite rare and the ones that are left are being restored as historical sites.
He probably went on wikipedia where they classify scarborough as a borough (no pun intended) of Toronto since it’s amalgamated, like the Bronx in NYC. Even though culturally Torontonians still just call it Scarborough.
I don't know a lot about the Celanese plant, but I do know that I had to go out there to do a service call for a 3rd party contractor around 2005.... The plant was still occupied, but a lot of stuff was sitting decommissioned and unused, including the generating station. I remember the raw water pump system that drew water in from the river was still operating too because we had to go down there and look at some high voltage breakers.
Trinity Loop here in Newfoundland is an abandoned amusement park which still has a lot of old things standing including a number of buildings, a Ferriswheel, and some train cars. We also have a number of abandoned communities which are very interesting to explore if you are able to get a way to them
O.m.g!!! I was hoping the Stanley park zoo would be on this list !! In Stanley park right by the Vancouver aquarium there is a little place where there is some information about the old zoo. There is also that very picture of the guy standing with the elephant !!
Giselle Feliz . LOL. no it isnt its not horrible. U must be too used to your crap shacks in the dominican 🤔 Ive lived here for 32 years, its the most wonderfull place to be. Of note: The Queen of Sidney was the very first ferry to be built and put into service by BC Ferries. Before that, only a small number of ships from companies that were purchased by the BC government to form BC Ferries had been in use. The Sidney is in essence the first BC Ferry starting a long line of successful ships.
To addon to this for fun, it was decommissioned about 10 years earlier than her sister ship, the Queen of Tsawassen, due to some issues. These "issues" were failing engines, with engines leaking exhaust and oil, which just ended up being a health hazard to the engineers. So they sold it thinking it was going to be sold to be used in a logging camp, but it ended up in the hands of some person who has it just sitting there.
ive been on the queen of sidney i live about 10 min away from it. also one creapy and odd place to check out is river view hospital. also been there many times
The Celanese plant (the AT Plastics one) closed down in late 2006 as the reactors were not efficient enough and Celanese still operate the Celanese Eva Polymers plant in Edmonton located just off the 101 Ave NW east of 49 st NW. All people working at the AT Plastics plant were moved to the more updated plant. There they have 5 reactors which made plastics, but recently all but 2 of the reactors have been shutdown and alot of the people working there have been laidoff.
I use to live it Alberta for a short amount of time in my life, I didn't know much, since I was only 5, but a friend of mines older brother apparently has snooped threw a the plant, thats all I really know, but I'm actually thinking of looking up the plant, and doing some research, which I think would be cool to do!
The Guild Inn is being renovated and a new Hotel is scheduled to be opened this year on the property. The property is owned by City of Toronto and is only being leased to the developers.
The Queen Of Sidney is a 30min drive from where I live. It is strange to look at, but it's not a ghost ship at all. Just a rusty hulk that no one wants. There was a rumor some years back where someone bought it and planned to turn it into a houseboat. Still haven't seen that happen yet.
I live in Toronto too, I guess you missed the excavating of the 200 year old ship that was found downtown when they were digging the foundation for a new Condo's.
i can see partridge island from where im sitting right now out my window, made the trip across the rocks several times, you have to walk across a breakwater formed with huge rocks to get out there, it takes about a hour to a hour and a half depending on your pace. lots of dumb kids sprain ankles or break legs making the walk across and have to be rescued by the coast guard, come spring you will see all the teens walking down the street with tents and back packs all going out to spend the night on the island.
I've sailed aboard the MV Queen of Sidney & the MV Queen of Saanich on the Powell River- Westview to Comox Valley route (BC Ferries Corporation). This is awesome how they regard the Queen of Sidney so highly, putting her at #1!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😆😆😅😅😅😅😅😅😁😂😂😂😂
Richard M, it used to manufacture plastic filaments for cigarette filters and methanol and was closed in 2002. I guess the equipment was simply obsolete, so they left it behind but that I don't know for sure.
Stanley park zoo more like closed then abandoned i remember it as a kid even those polar bears. That whole park is live and active that's just one small part.
A fellow I worked for owns, or did own, the Queen Of Sidney. He bought it for not much. It paid for itself in just the fuel left in the tanks, and he ran all his farm equipment on it for 2 years. In his barn he had the brass ship’s bell, the wheel, and the portrait of the Queen Elizabeth. I even used the first aid kit from it to patch up a co-worker who cut himself. He rented it for everything film location to paintball games. I rode on that ferry a lot when it was in service. It’s not at Silverdale any more, don’t know what happened to it
Louis Win I have done a lot of work there on supervising asbestos removal and work in the power house on their 2 three story boilers. Very eery place. Everywhere you walk, your hair stands on end and you feel like your being watched the whole time. Also, don’t try and visit Colony Farms.
Anybody suggest some saskatchewan sites?the old sanitarium in saskatoon was one when i was a teenager. Sask hospital in northbattleford and many small townsites.

I love it when I see videos of places I've actually visited in a country I live in, thank you!!

I really do enjoy watching this video.
Hi Joanne hope you’re doing well
With your family?
I live 40 minutes from Toronto and have gone coast to coast in this vast majestic country, can't believe I still have SO much to see and explore. looks like round 2 next year, Thanks for uploading!
Shout out to my Canadian neighbors up north! Im definitely checking out that country one day
Start with montreal
Make sure you check out both coasts, both very beautiful but very distinctively different from one another
He is right start with the boring places and finish with Toronto Ottawa Montreal
Fuck Montreal 😂😂
Avoid all of Quebec! And you will see beautiful country trees and hills and such
"And article from 2001 said the plant was shut down in 2002..."
WHAT?
the article could have been updated in the later years
Maybe they are saying it is going to be shut down in 2002

Nicely done. I’m Canadian and I learned some stuff from the video
No Kitsault B.C.? It's a whole town for 1.200 people abandoned and still in perfect condition.
Kitsaul has already been bought by a new owner for $7 million and it's been in process of renovation so research on it

As someone living in Edmonton I didn't even know this plant was a thing. Now I really want to find it :)
Is the plant still around? I read it was ready to be demolished in an article of 2011.
There's still parts of it left North of the yellowhead on 17 st

Partridge island is very neat ive made the journey through the rocks to the island a few times i hope they do open it up to tourism
It's good to see that other than New Brunswick the rest of eastern Canada is alive and thriving, no government abandoning or anything! :P
Yo... did this guy seriously just say scarborough toronto... bruh
The lack of research on this channel is astounding. Couldn't even hire a Canadian to do the talkover... smh
He probably went on wikipedia where they classify scarborough as a borough (no pun intended) of Toronto since it’s amalgamated, like the Bronx in NYC. Even though culturally Torontonians still just call it Scarborough.
Scarborough is a part of Toronto though, just like Etobicoke and North & East York. Used to be separate cities until they joined with Toronto
Dunno since I'm only in Toronto/Hamilton Halton area. Was Mississauga part of Toronto?

You can actually explore the elevator in Nanton. There is also an air museum which is worth seeing. Nanton is between Calgary and Lethbridge Alberta.
The Guild Inn is renovated and open now. I was there in October 2017
Queen of Sidney also appeared in The X-Files and Supernatural.

Been to Camp 30 it is a really cool place to see if you get the chance.
Most people that do these type of videos don't think twice about researching any new updates about abandoned towns being re-renovated , etc...
The Guild Inn is also the site of a collection of pieces taken from demolished buildings in Toronto.
I'm just here to find my next vacation spot in my lovely country
St. Anthony's, Newfoundland. Apparently, not too far from there is a viking settlement.
I had no Idea Stanley Park Zoo closed in 1996, what a shame.
Also abandoned in British Columbia is Namu and sumthin,? Falls,
Ocean Falls. Still inhabited by about a dozen people and still gets ferry service.
They tore down Camp 30 recently. Used to go there all the time
