Take a trip to Dover and Walmer Castles, as well Sandwich and Thanet. They are not far fromCanterbury. Thanet has so much history and heritage that is never properly explained.
Really glad you're back! My husband and I loved this. Fantastic! We love your walks and accompanied narrations and always enjoy watching them. Thank you!
That's so kind of you to say! I'm really glad you enjoyed this video, and do stay tuned because there will be plenty more to come! Thank you very much for watching :)
Off topic: came to praise your stunning tour of Venice on a recent video. Left a longer comment under Part 3. Hope it ends up with the many views it thoroughly deserves!
I’m glad your back I love your walks because you cover all the history, I’ve visited a lot of towns you’ve been too , and find it easier to get around as you’ve filmed the route .
It is a shame that the "ducking stool" is no longer on the Stour banks outside The Weavers. I realise its history and original purpose, but that is my point in that it is a history of old England and old Canterbury, and shows how far equality has come.
I’ll be studying abroad soon in England, and your tours have been super helpful for getting myself acquainted with the UK! Thanks for the great videos!!
Hi, I am your subscriber who lives in South Korea. I have waited new video clip for a long time and so I am very pleased to watch this video. THANK YOU
Hello! Sorry to have made you wait so long, I hope this tour of Canterbury was worth the wait :) Maybe one day I'll visit South Korea and make a video there!
Welcome back! I was just thinking of you the other day. BTW re Becket, the story goes that the 4 knights were let into the Cathedral at the instruction of Becket himself. Why is a matter of speculation, but they did knock apparently, and instead of taking advice of his fellow worshippers, the Archbishop insisted the doors be opened as it was a public worship service. T S Eliot "Murder in the Cathedral" is read annually on the anniversary, which falls within Christmastide.
Thank you! It's a fascinating story with so much to it, who knows how things truly unfolded on that December day, but as you say the Archbishop himself may have played quite the part in the events...
Splendid to see you back. We were worried you had suffered the terrible “RUclips Burnout”! Canterbury is a fascinating city but the mandatory £17 entry-free to the cathedral (adult) turns the place into a commercial attraction, with the sort of charges theme-parks and zoos levy.
Thank you very much! I'm glad to see you back as well, apologies for the long gap between videos. Indeed the entry is rather pricey, and you need a ticket to get into the rest of the cathedral close too. Still there is plenty to see inside - and it's a place of great significance!
i was going to go to edinburgh this weekend but now i've opted for this instead. i'm in london so this is much closer. trying to make the most of travel here in the UK while we still have summer.
1. i have no idea why anyone would convert FROM Paganism to Christianity 2. why didn't king ethlebert just listen to his wife about Christianity instead of waiting 17 years to be converted by an archbishop or whomever it was? so annoying. thank you.
My old university town. When I lived there I never really appreciated just how great the city is.
same as me, I live this town for about 4 years, but I did not notice those of great story and history.
I'm going there next Friday, I'm so excited

An excellent walk. Btw the site of the shrine, and now where the candle is, isn't where the murder took place. That was in the North transept.
I see you're back.
Back indeed! Thanks for joining me again - and look forward to plenty more walks ahead :)
