    I watched this video while sitting by the sorta Mickey Mouse shaped pool in Vero Beach lol. No lie. Crazy about the never built expansion. They kept the little lake across the street and turned it into a “nature walk”. But I had no idea more villas were originally planned over there.

      @@Spiderific what I do regret was buying into the DVC at a low point level in the beginning because my savings on hotels could have been far larger otherwise no the program is amazing. I will admit though that the DVC has changed a lot over the years (used to get free activities, behind-the-scenes tours, free foods/drinks, horseback riding and a boatload more) which is why I use my points through RCI rather than at Disney. I recently stayed (2019) at a hotel outside the USA and it cost me 80 points for a week in a 1 bedroom villa. The hotel ran about $300 a night which is $2,100 for the week. The 80 points on the other hand only cost me about $600 so a savings of 1/4.

    • @choreomaniac
      @choreomaniac 3 года назад

      @@shinjigami2269 everything I have seen says that you don’t get the same value from your points at RCI as DVC resorts.
      DVC points sell at a premium because Disney buys them back. If you don’t use them for DVC, couldn’t you sell your contract and buy an RCI contract for 70-80 percent off? Tons of people try to get out of their timeshare so prices are low for resale.

    • @shinjigami2269
      @shinjigami2269 3 года назад

      @@choreomaniac hell no am I selling and what you are seeing is incorrect. I can get a 2 bedroom villa (3 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, jacuzzi, rainfall shower, fully stocked kitchen, living and dining room with all modern fixings) with a private pool for 60-80 points a week around the world using my DVC points. This comes out to about $150-$250 a week for a room that normally runs up to $5,000 for a week. Yes, I don't get the Disney experience but I've had the Disney experience for over 20 years so I don't care about it anymore. Getting high-end cheap hotel rooms for dirty cheap is the way to go with the DVC points.

    The real shame is they didn't have to sell off that land. A better decision would have been to use it to create an attraction, some reason to come in the first place. That's some hubris to assume you slap mouse ears on a timeshare and people would beat down the door to get in. Now make a small water slide park, or some HoopDeDoo style dinner theater, or even a small standalone attraction like Bear Country Jamboree and you can draw in customers. FYI, the Bear Country Jamboree was originally designed with Walt Disney's Mineral Springs Resort in mind, so the idea of every hotel having one attraction isn't that crazy, in fact, I wonder how they survive without one?

    • @dinocas420
      @dinocas420 3 года назад +2

      I would die (in the best way possible) if they started putting back small scale versions of attractions into each hotel. Wisconsin Dells has them, why can't Disney do it? It would be pretty rad to even see them bring back new/small versions of extinct attractions. Like, Magic Journeys and Kitchen Kab.... selfishly haha.

    This IS a catch 22 situation. If you know that dining/ drinking/ beaching going is the DRAW. It's a good choice. If you want the "full Disney Experience" Select a resort on property for your taste & budget. I stayed in the Dream Tower once @ the Disneyland Resort. It was fun & expensive (but i felt I might EVER get to do it again) I work hard & play hard in the service industry myself. But, I will tell you, being from Houston, TX. Galveston, TX is just an hour or so away from a major metropolitan city. I can "recharge" on my day off & relax/ eat/ play on the beach. Might even see a Disney Cruise ship leave in the spring.

      I know for me (and I am guessing other people) I assume there is an upcharge just for the fact that it's owned by Disney. I am sure it's high quality, but if there is nothing "Disney" about it, why pay for the Disney name? There are plenty of other places that have quality and don't have crowds that you don't pay a premium for because "they happened to be owned by Disney". I could be wrong, and there might not be a price premium, but my inner skeptic wouldn't allow me to believe it.

    In the past, Disney operated sight-seeing trips around the country. One of their most popular were Washington, DC. So when National Harbor, MD was being developed, Disney chose a location a few blocks from the Potomac, up the hill. Would have offered wonderful views of the River and Alexandria on the opposite shore.
    Gaylord (Marriott) operates a huge conference hotel. There is a retail outlet shopping center. But what really did in the plans was the MGM Casino. Difficult to operate a family resort with a casino next door.
    The site for the Disney resort still remains vacant. It's a frequent site for festivals and carnivals. Also, acts as a separator from the residential area from the built-up hotel/ shopping/ restaurant 'downtown'.

    I stayed at Aulani a few years ago and loved it! I was planning to go to Hawaii anyway, so why not stay with Disney? I like having the flexibility of using dvc to go other places besides the parks. Always happy to stay at a Disney resort because they do it better than anyone else.

    Haha, I've Actually Stayed Here! It's Actually Not That Bad... Though I do have to warn you I have not been here since 2007 or 2008. I'm surprised such a random Disney property is worthy of an entire video! (I went down here as my family frequents the Vero beach area, and we wanted to go to Disney that year too)
    From What I DO Remember, it was nice, well kept, had a decent lobby, (Though the entire property was not that big..) Had a nice pool with a slide which I once felt like I was gonna drown in lol (I wasn't in danger my dad was right there) There were decent food options though they probably had "Disney Pricing" so yeah. It was all around good. Nice setting, clean, nice food, nothing about it was that bad. I don't recall everything but I do know it was enjoyable (not ritz-carlton level, but still decent) I overall liked my time there. Though I know at least one or two better places to stay in Vero Beach. (I.e. the kipton hotel)
    TLDR: Stayed here before quite a while ago, not that bad in my experiance.

    The problem with Vero Beach in general for the original concept is that if you want to take in the Space Coast at the same time as Orlando, you might as well stay in Orlando which is closer. If you want to take in Miami as well, you can stay a lot more cheaply a lot closer to Miami.

    I could stay in the Hilton Head resort. I want Disney Vacation Club to build the Disney's Asheville Resort in Asheville, NC. It could feature Villa-type rooms, a huge indoor water park, and an indoor family entertainment center with arcade games, mini golf, go-karts, motion simulators, and more.

I've only been here a couple times but I did always wonder why Disney built a resort here especially since the resort always seems sleepy..like no one there....now I know!

    Yes I would use my points. Who honestly wants to stay on property every single year for 20 years. Weird. Plus bring a Disney resort you know it will be very well maintained and looked after - something you can say for many 3rd party properties even down the beach. It looks fine and relaxing.

    I'm currently saving up for DVC and I absolutely plan on staying at Vero Beach. However, I live in South Florida so I'm always looking for fun things to do here. I can use some points here and some at WDW resorts. Would I go out of my way to use DVC points at Vero Beach for my one vacation a year if I lived in Pennsylvania? Probably not. I'd be interested to know who Vero Beach's guests are. I would not be surprised if they were primarily Florida DVC owners.

    One of my friends wanted to honeymoon in Hawaii and stay in the Disney resort there. I told her that she shouldn’t because there’s tons of other beautiful resorts there and you aren’t missing out on something if you don’t stay in a DISNEY resort in Hawaii. I said they could go to dinner at the resort there but they shouldn’t stay there.

    Vero beach is a nice resort but i think it & Hawaii were huge mistakes for DVC expansion. I know there have been various plans over the years, but Disney should have built DVCs at more popular family destinations first to help expand the vacation club program. I would have started with ski resorts. One in the Northeast and one out west. These are popular family vacation destinations & would have easily sold out every winter. Summer of course would be lighter but still a great option for getaways, especially if Disney had the characters and some other Disney magic to help entertain kids. Both of these destinations are easy for many people to drive to vs the flight needed for Hawaii. The also offer more in the area than Vero, which outside the beach, doesn’t really have much else to offer.
    I also think another strategy that could have worked was pairing some more traditional styled hotels in major cities with the Disneyquest attractions. This again could have afforded local families to “go away” for a mini Disney vacation. However if these DVC hotels were priced competitively, i think it could have offered more value to parents buying into the program. They could use their points to go away for a quick romantic weekend or other trip. While DVC offers this with other programs, the point values are not always worth it. A parent could look at the DVC program and all the other locations and possibly justify buying it more than they do now (which is really just a Disney World draw).
    For me, these kinds of DVC expansion would have made alot more sense first, since their popularity/success would have been more obtainable then building vero (more or less down the street from WDW). Vero would have been a good project down the line, filling a niche DVC market but not really a major draw.
