This is the original version of the show. John Davis was apparently the one given the task of "fixing it" for a later iteration that took some of this footage and added a bunch of trashy stuff to replace the graphics I did. There is no John Davis in this film.
i remember there was an astroliner at Dutch Wonderland and i remember there was one time there was a video at the end after the ship landed there were "aliens" (looked like lobsters or crawfish) all over ths screen like they attacked the ship. Unfortunately this is all I remember from it, I was pretty young at the time. Not sure if that one was made by Davis. It was late 80s early 90s when I went there.
I think this is the film our park in Maryland used to. The camera showed people in the park suddenly start to scream and run as stop motion aliens supposedly climbed down off the rocket.
Sadly, no, I don't have the underwater film. John gave me a stock of old footage and other things from his workshop when he moved from Colorado, but that movie was not one of them. Currently, John's facebook profile pic features a photo of a Colorado aspen, turned gold in the autum season. If you still can't find him, message me again, and I'll email you his yahoo mail addy privately.
thanks for that i wa searching for years, i remember another movie that the ship falls under water or something like that and in a moment there are caves and appears a monster that looks at camera. do you have that film??? pd i cant find john davis facebook to ask him (there are to many john davis i dontk know wich ) thank
I never heard of John Davis but he did NOT, repeat, DID NOT do this film. I created this film for International Media Systems and Wisdom Manufacturing in 1977. I built the models, shot the explosions, did all the graphics myself using the Oxberry at Alexander film labs in Colorado Springs, CO. Who am I? See timlandry (dot) com
Hello Sir! I have a VHS copy of your works you sent me back in the early 2000s. I loved the Astroliner films to the point of fandom. The Wizard of Time and Space was shown over and over at parties here. I'm not sure if that was also your short but it was on the tape. :) Forgive me if I'm incorrect I just tripped into this post of Moonbase.
My grandparents had a VHS of that demo reel, and it was probably my most-watched tape from my early childhood. I'm looking for the "monster planet" Astroliner video to show off after a short conversation with some friends about HP Lovecraft. The descriptions of the city in At The Mountains Of Madness always made me remember the ruined alien city.
Hello ! Nice movie ! Thank you for sharing ! I'm searching for a "clear" version of Monster Planet. I saw this movie 30 years ago in a funfair in France and would like to see it again. I saw some footages on YT but they're too ... shaky ^^. If you know where I should see it again and bring back some of my youth memories, it would be much much appreciated !
Sorry to say, but "Monster Planet" was produced by a different studio. The folks at Wisdom didn't feel they were getting enough for the money they were spending with them, and instead went with John Davis, based on his portfolio reel.
Thanks so much for sharing. i was beginning to think I dreamt up this ride as no one seemed to know about it. The film we had ended with a stop motion alien monster- first a POV landing back into the amusement park. So the POV camera showed people milling around at a "amusement park" (as if it's the crowds right outside the ride) and suddenly they people all look up towards our ship in fright and start running and then a stop motion alien monster gets down off the top of our rocket. It was a fun way to end the ride. please tell me you have that film too?
@InCameraFX thank you for responding me, i think i have find him thank him but im not sure, since im not from an english native language country im not sure if i understood well your descrimption(i have problems with the colorado aspen words. i have askded the one that i think he is k, if im wrong ill contact you again thanks again great material you have here. mike
Well, Log House, you seem to have your timeline mixed up. "Monster Planet" was done by a group of Hollywood Pros, (CPC) who frankly, botched it. (No rolling of the camera to match the ride, for one thing) John got involved after that, about a year later, and produced several films for Wisdom Manufacturing, several of which I've uploaded. My own involvement with this particular film was as an assistant, basically pulling strings and throwing switches on cue as John manipulated the various speed controls on the motorized dolly, and acted as the focus puller to the rig of his own design. Off hand, Log House, you either have a very poor memory, or else you're just one of these guys who likes to pretend other people's work is their own, so as to aggrandize themselves. Sorry, dude. Too many people know John Davis' work, and that of Dan Gossett's model construction for them. The folks who worked at Wisdom can back me up on this. The models for this and the other Astro Liner films were on display at Starcon the year it was produced, and I'm sure plenty of fans will be happy to share their memories of seeing the stuff... back in '82.
The film above is 100% my work. I have photos of me working on it and still have some of the models. It was created in 1977 in Colorado Springs. I have no knowledge or memory of John Davis, and he had zero role in creating this particular film. I was also involved in the creation of Monster Planet. And your assertion that there are no camera rolls in that film is simply wrong. It may be a primitive film but that isn't one of its faults.
I was lucky enough to ride on the 'Astroliner' when one was at a UK amusement park in the early 80s. It was a thrilling experience..😁👍👍
Omg. I actually road on an Astroliner when I was a kid. I thought it was the coolest thing ever back then.

OMG thank you for sharing this. this was my favorite ride at the carnival when I was a kid!

Colorado Aspen is a kind of tree, the leaves of which turn gold in color in the fall.

And by the way, I did the sequel "Monster Planet" at CPC associates a year or two later.

James rolfe from cinemassacre made a video discussing defunct theme park rides, and he spoke about vague memories of this aswell.

Kimberly: if you are serious, I have the 16mm reels John gave me. I would be happy to sell them to you, if the price is right.
