These little 12v heaters work better/best when wired directly to the battery under the hood. The cigarette lighter plug actually restricts a lot of the (much needed) electrical current/flow.
I am a technical person with a physics background and I will respond to a few of the remarks made in the comments. I did buy this heater a week ago because I needed a defroster for my windshield, so I am writing from experience. 1) When you turn on the heater, the fan will work much slower than when using the fan without a heater, but that is by design. When the heater is ON, there has to be a balance between letting the heating element warm up, and cooling the element by blowing cold air on it and transferring the heat to the environment. If the fan would work faster, the heater would not be able to warm up as much, so it's a balance. 2) The heater consumes 150 watts according to the specifications, and that's the thermal energy you can get for such a low power heater. You get exactly what you should expect to get for such a low power consumption. 3) If you try the heater on frozen ice on the windshield at -10 degrees Celsius (I have tried) it actually works quite well in melting the ice because of the large temperature difference between the ice and the warm air. The lower the outside temperature, the better the heater will work. 4) The heating element of the device (you can look through the opening to see it) is only at the top one inch of the opening, so only this part of the heater actually produces hot air, NOT the entire opening. 5) Connecting the heater to the battery will not change anything. My own car has a cigarette plug which is limited to 120W, so I had to connect the heater directly to the battery to get 150W, but 150W is 150W regardless where it's coming from. My website: MoleSense.com/
I bought one of these. I knew in the first place not to plug it in to the cigarette lighter socket. I wired it directly to the battery. Results: inadequate as a windshield defroster, but suprisingly good as a heater for one passenger.
I bought one of those several years ago. It blew the fuses on my Jeep Patriot and on my Chevy Camaro. It didn't blow the fuses on my Ford F150. I originally got it to defrost and defog the rear windows on my Camaro and F150. That being said, I found it to be a virtually useless product. I thew it in the trash. My ultimate solution was to install a power inverter in my car and and use a portable 250W small heater.
Ive got one of those Harbor Freight units. It worked "ok" for about a month. But at this point, it doesn't produce any more heat than a birthday cake candle.
EVERYONE that says this is a piece of junk doesn't understand how it is built. I use this on my street legal UTV because I am required to have a defroster for inspection. I have two motorcycle batteries, completely separate and isolated from my UTV's electrical system together to make 24volts. I run a positive and negative from the battery bank directly to this where its mounted on my dashboard. Yes, my batteries do not get charged by the engine but its an open cab so I do not need to use the defroster all the time or for long periods of time. I do have a two 12v trickle chargers I use to charge both batteries (I do disconnect them from each other first) to keep them charged once in awhile. The things works great directly connected to a 24v source. The fan doesn't slow down or anything. If hooked to a 12v source through a cigarette lighter plug, yea, it sucks.
These are like 15-20 bucks. And most cigarette lighter sockets are not wired heavy enough for these. I wired a second 12v power supply with better wires and it made a nice difference. But still a smaller weak heater. Lol
If you listen to the fan speed without heater element working its fast, then when you put heater element on fan slows down a lot. This shows wires going from battery to cigarette lighter socket are much too thin and acting like resistors losing lots of power. Wire heater straight from battery and will work much much better. All these cheap fan heaters are the same and need to have power direct from battery...
By the time you wait for it heating up, you could have been there and back. lol Is there any of things worth buying. Could do with something for my Ser 3 Landy.
Rebecca Orange - IF engine running, no it won't. Alternator will keep it charged. On the other hand connect it with the engine off. And you're in for a bad surprise...specially on very cold weather when the battery is already being strained by the cold conditions. So make sure the engine start, then run as needed. ;-)
Of course its not going tk melt the ice on the outside of the windshield. You have ti think this thing isnt putting out much heat as it is, movu g it around luke you are not even letting it set in one spot with ice ling enough to even heat the windshield up in which when a windshield heats up causing the ice to melt. Take it and out it in the outaide of the vehicle amd out it up as cloae as you did to the windshield and hold it I bet it will melt it faster that way then through thw windshield, at thia point it qould be easier to just scrape it off and/or use a heat gun.
only if there is a plug around I just imagine the freezing temperature after shopping at the store, I have thought of an idea to solve that so you enter a cool car after shopping on a hot day and a warm car on a cool day. its pure genius.
ha ha I dont' think I explained myself well I could see why you would think I didn't have an idea, because of the non explaination of what it was, it doesn't use the engine as energy is has its own separate energy, the only thing I need is an engineer to execute it, but it automatically controls the temperature of the car, and can be paired with a phone to check and change the tempurature, but it is just an idea, I believe that others have tried this many times just not created a good one. quality right?
the one Im creating would be so much more effective, and it doesn't use your car battery or take up your charging stations, the one i have I have thought out just need an engineer who can build it or who wants to create it can buy the idea, Im not sure why they havent thought of this before, I haven't found any others out there.
Shellie Thomson Hey shellie I'm not a certified engineer but I consider myself an engineer hobbyist I'm currently working on such device since this artic blast hit mainland USA. I think I got a solution to the energy issue. Idk where to contact you tho, I'm happy to share
I didn't even have to watch this video I bought one of these pieces of shit to warm my wrangler. Worst product I've ever bought. I'm pretty sure I took it apart then tossed it in the garbage.
i have 1 of these, biggest hape of shite ever, you may as well get out and piss on the window, as for defoggin forget about it, i got a long hot water bottle, does the trick.

Good to know thanks
I tried that...the heater Indeed worked a little better but after 1 hour smells like burned plastic..so these 12v are not doing the job.

Level 1 is heat
Level 2 is fab
Dude had it on fan the whole time
With the heat on the fan will slow down
Hello, i can see this video ia from 5 years ago, did it unfrost it by now?
Ive got one of those Harbor Freight units. It worked "ok" for about a month. But at this point, it doesn't produce any more heat than a birthday cake candle.
😆😅💀
😭😭😭 hilarious birthday cake candle heat
I heard that a candle is about 80w so you would actually need 2
4:25 best complement. 👏👍

The whole point should be that it defrosts windows within minutes but by the time this heats up the windows will be done by the cars own heaters!
Not if the cars heater isn’t working duhhhhhhhh
Thumbs up for the honest review of 2 of 10. Thank You
like it when u say "2/10 for this SHIT" hahahahaha, Thanks for this video almost bought it
My heater is not working. Thank goodness for this video as I would have wasted $40-50 on this garbage.

I bought one of these at advance Auto about two weeks ago. A waste of $27. Might as well have just thrown the money out of the window 😂
"I would put score 2 out of 10 for this shit"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I just wired one from the battery and its terrible. I think the blower on it is weak. It gets hot though.
By the time you wait for it heating up, you could have been there and back. lol

This thing should take about 5min for the heater to warm then the fan speed will increase.
He needs to learn how to read , he had it on fan , not heat, I have one and it works great.
How do you put it on heat. Mine came with no instructions
You’re right he had it on fan I have one n works very well
Will this drain your car battery?
Rebecca Orange no

-5 degrees? Homie but does it work in Cali weather where cold is like 67 degrees Fahrenheit

Hey sir... Buy a car power inverter first... It will function well with that... You will only destroy your fuse without power inverter...
BOY! GLAD THE MRS. WASN'T HAVING A BABY :0
Bought one too, but fan not working and struggling with seller to replace
That thing is absolutely crap!
Cut the plug off and add two crocodile clips straight from the battery loads of heat good heater.
So why it say heater ?
Thank you for the review. I was going to buy one but I wont now.
He's trying to defrost an icy window... I'm sure it'll take longer
It worked in 4 mins, how long do you let your car warm up for when it’s frosted? Lol
@@Imjussaiyanbro I just ordered one.. So it really works?
@@Imjussaiyanbro I have nothing to defrost my windows now so this will come in handy. Better than nothing
i use an extension cord and a hair dryer it heats it up in like 5 min !!!

tell me your secret honey !
well with another one of my ideas, you can purchase the rights to that as well. but it takes a big dreamer to do so.
i thought you had a real idea hahaha

Almost bought this crap,. Thx for video :)
man is save???Or gote fire???
I just bought one, seems to work great
i have this one & it's DooDoo
What do you expect from a 150 watt heater? It's as powerful as cutting big trees with a pocket knife!
If its advertised for defrosting i expect it to defrost, dont care if it uses 5kw or 1w. If the manufacturer says that it works i expect it to work.
I brought a 200w car heater and was no good at all was wondering if the 500w version was any better
Careful I caught my outlets on fire in my 2003 suburban with one of those heaters
I don't understand - a cheap hairdryer gets hot instantly.
It's not gonna instantly defrost. You're just impatient
Not impressed.
If it can't even deal with a bit of vapor it definitely won't work on iced windows
Thank you I was going to buy one save 15. 00 dollars
Great review🤣🤣🤣
How long it was taken?
