I remember being "not like other girls." I rejected my femininity bc i thought it made me weak. It took me awhile to embrace that femininity is powerful and being soft and nuturing is so strong. Love yourself for who you are darlings.

I am not interested in having children. I dont beleive in gender roles. I dont believe in gender roles. I make substantially more money than my partner working in a male dominated field. When I first started, I thought in bad to copy the traits of my male coworkers in order to get ahead. I was trying to prove that I "wasn't like the other girls." Which in reality only puts other women down. I thought you had to be hard of character and dress conservatively (all black slacks and dress shirts) to get ahead. Somewhere along the line I changed my perspective. I am soft and kind to people. I wear mostly dresses in printed fabric. I nuture the plants in my garden and my furry and feathered babies. Any person of any gender that possesses feminine traits (in the trad Western sense) is worthy of respect. I believe that one day we all want to get to the point where being a woman, POC, and/or LGBT in politics and/or high positions of power is normalized and not a huge deal anymore, but until we get there we celebrate these milestones of representation until we reach that future. I view supporting a politician as approving their policies and positions as the most important and them belonging to any one or multiple of these marginalized groups as an amazing added bonus to represent to people in these groups that no matter who you are, as long as you can show that you actually represent the interests of the people you serve and have policies they support then you have a fair shot of being a member of Congress, Vice President, or even President.

We need to talk about what she said in regards to femininity being disregarded and degraded in politics. We often see women having to become more masculine to be taken seriously in every day life.
