I shouldn't need a song to tell me who He is, but this song captures His essence. You can almost see Mary holding our Savior! Such a testimony and ministry. Thank you, Mark!
I read a story one time where a professional performer sung or spoke a passage of scripture. The audience gave him a standing ovation and cheers galor because his performance was so amazing. Then he went backstage and a little old gentleman that was a stage hand or custodian walked out onto the stage and spoke or sung the same passage of scripture. When he finished, there wasn't a dry eye in the audience. The older gentleman walked backstage and the professional performer met him and said "sir, you got the greatest form of applause any performer could ever receive. You moved the people into silent tears. How did you do that???" The old gentleman said "you know all the words, but I know the one who wrote them.". And I feel like there are many that perform this song "because they know words" and perform them well, but Mark knows who the one wrote the song.

I knew he was involved with the Gaither Vocal Band, and had done some writing, but somewhere along the way I forgot that he wrote "Mary, Did You Know?" It wasn't until I started an Advent Bible reading plan going through the songs of Christmas that I discovered this was his song. It's always been one of my favorites.

The pianist is Anthony Burger. At 8 mo. old Anthony fell on the furnace grate and he suffered 3rd degree burns on both hands. His parents were told he would never be able to use his hands. God had other plans for him. He started playing the piano at 3 years of age. There are a few versions of Anthony giving his testimony.

I don’t believe she knew all at the time of his birth. It was a progressive revelation over the years. It would have been unbearable as a mother if she knew the end from the beginning. God in his wisdom protected her as I know he protects us.

Mark wrote a truly beautiful song, and he sings it with such conviction. No one could ever do this song the way he does. I don't think anyone would even try. Every artist I have heard cover this song, do them. That is how it should be. The song should mean something to you or why choose it to sing. I haven't heard anyone cover it that has done a bad job of it, but my favorite covers are Kathy Mattea, Kenny Rogers with Wynonna Judd, Jordan Smith, Pentatonix, and Home Free

Can you believe as long as I’ve loved this song, just today did I learn that Mark Lawry wrote it, and the first time listening to him sing it. Obviously the Holy Spirit touched Mark’s heart to write it, because I couldn’t get through it without crying, not tears of joy and not tears of sadness, but tears the Spirit brings to your heart that fills it, if you’re saved you know exactly what I am talking about. indeed I agree, but lately I think CeeLo Green's version is pretty incredible. He sings this song with so much passion and his soul itself says every word. If you haven't heard it yet, I recommend you do it. Every person have their own opinion, I hope you like it at least haha :)
