There are 3 operating modes: "EV", "Hybrid" and "Engine Only". In both EV mode and Hybrid mode, the wheels are only being driven by ONE electric motor (let's call it Main Electric). The petrol engine firing up in Hybrid mode does not drive the wheels, but rather spins another electric motor which is actually a generator (let's call it a Secondary Electric). This secondary electric then runs the electricity that it produces through and inverter and uses it to charge the battery AND also sends it to the Main Electric so the car can move. The only time that the petrol engine actually drives the wheels by itself is at high speeds and low loads, engaging via a secondary clutch and an overdrive gear. At that time the main electric is disengaged as well, but continues to spin freely because it needs to be up to speed if you stomp on it, to switch back to Hybrid mode. There's a video online with someone explaining the drive train with the bits and pieces taken apart. The whole system is the closest you can get to the experience of driving a fully electric car but without the worries of cables, charging times and range anxiety, as you can simply stop for a few minutes to fill the tank. As I understand, it's pretty fuel efficient too, returning excellent mileage for the minuscule 40 L petrol tank that it has. The only grip I have with the car? For the asking price I would have expected the car to be a 4x4. It also lacks wireless android auto integration, which is completely stupid considering the other myriad of options that the car has.

Wireless android auto can actually be activated the customer himself. There are tutorials in youtube.
I've test driven this car twice in Cheshire oaks. Amazing. I really ragged it around in sport mode and it was very responsive, over engineered masterpiece! Will be placing an order soon

I test drive this car in Australia and I am impressed with the driving experience across different types of roads. Fuel economy is very good, even better than my Gen 3 Prius. It drives like an EV until I floor the accelerator and the engine comes to life and becomes noisy. On most roads, the car is smooth and quiet, suspension is well damped and steering is responsive.
Looks like a much more substantial car than the previous model.

The Honda HR-V is not a 4x4. It's sold exclusively as a two-wheel-drive SUV, with power going to the front wheels. :)
Thanks very much for making this video. I'm going to test drive the car on Monday and am looking forward to trying it out myself (partly due to your video). What was the fuel comsumption like on your drive with all the stops and starts? It sounded as if most of the drive was electric (and lovely and quiet). What I'd still like to know is how the engines fare with uphill driving and motorway acceleration.

Reminds me of a Toyota Venza from the outside lol. It's unfortunate the US doesn't have this HR-V or else I would consider it as a small SUV.

great to sit in but needs 2 things: panoramic roof (not even an option in the UK), and a better NVH package: it's really noisy when the IC engine kicks in, which is 95% of the time.

@@majudaem pan roof is an option on 95% of its competitors - your partner might not like it, but for gray days in the UK many people do.
@@majudaem Yeah we're looking at a Sportage too, better PCP deals than the HR-V - but I know the Honda is better built and bullet-proof. i have a CRZ and its been 100%reliable and great to drive.
I tested one and the engine kicking in was no worse than a turbo. As for a panoramic roof, we’ll, I wouldn’t buy a car with one as I hate light coming from above. The sports trim, however, is smart.

at 32:40 the blind spot did not detect on the motorcycle.
The system will only alert the driver when needed.
In this case, it was not needed as no turn signal was applied to start a lane change and the car was driving straight forwards at very low speeds. 😀

Yes it does! 😊
The new HR-V Hybrid has a ground clearance of about 190mm. The old HRV model had a ground clearance of about 178mm-185mm.
However, the Honda CRV has a ground clearance of about 198mm.

Here in México the price for a new Civic is around 540,000 pesos… for that same money I can get myself a Chevrolet Cheyenne 2016 and have a much better vehicle with actual use and an awesome v8. New cars are NOT worth it. Unless you lease but leasing here is close to impossible
