When I first heard this, I was like, "What the?" Then I laughed at the lyrics, and became entranced with this utterly unique voice singing this quirky, awesome song. I'm so glad I found her!
Here's a story about a sinner He used to be a winner Who enjoyed a life of prominence and position But the pressures at the office And his socialite engagements And his selfish wife's fanatical ambition But it turned him to the booze And he got mixed up with a floosie And she led him to a life of indecision The floosie made him spend his dole She left him lying on skid row A drunken drag in some salvation army mission It's such a shame Oh, demon alcohol Sad memories I can't recall Who thought I would say Damn it all and blow it all Oh, demon alcohol Memories I can't recall Who thought I would fall A slave to demon alcohol Barley wine, pink gin He'll drink anything Port, pernod or tequila Rum, scotch, vodka on the rocks As long as all his troubles disappeared But he messed up his life Went and beat up his wife And the floosie's gone and found another sucker She's gonna lead him on to drink She's gonna lead him to the brink And when his money's gone, she'll leave him in the gutter It's such a shame Oh, demon alcohol Sad memories I can't recall Who thought I would say Damn it all and blow it all Oh, demon alcohol Memories I can't recall Who thought I would fall A slave to demon alcohol
What a beautiful rendition. It's taken the Kinks' caricaturistic, almost comedic drinking song, and turned the nuance exactly on its head, yet still remaining faithful to the original's underrated artistry and creativity. I do find the video a bit blunt, but sometimes it's good to underline the point.
flappers and all. What a wonderful video. Would have been a great recruiting piece for the WCTU. Only problem is it's a century too late. Still a great song and video.
hello I need help there was some one else I've have heard sing this song and I can't find them it was song and as a style of what I would say of Hank Williams Junior can someone maybe point me in the right direction
She's fresh, unique and I love that someone is embracing the 1920s.
Or at least the 1970s. lol.
@@MultiCappie 70’s? How?
The Kinks.
This cover is amazing... This is my track... Till I'm gone
Just love her voice and everything about her.
Outstanding. Like a time machine going back a century.
Or at least to the 1970s. lol.
More image than talent. A typical move by the ordinary.

Her voice is a gift. And as she's a very kind person, she shares it with all of us. That's nice :)

Who enjoyed a life of prominence and position

And his selfish wife's fanatical ambition
But it turned him to the booze
And he got mixed up with a floosie
And she led him to a life of indecision
The floosie made him spend his dole

A drunken drag in some salvation army mission
It's such a shame
Oh, demon alcohol
Sad memories I can't recall
Who thought I would say
Damn it all and blow it all
Oh, demon alcohol
Memories I can't recall
Who thought I would fall
A slave to demon alcohol
Barley wine, pink gin
He'll drink anything
Port, pernod or tequila
Rum, scotch, vodka on the rocks
As long as all his troubles disappeared
But he messed up his life
Went and beat up his wife
And the floosie's gone and found another sucker
She's gonna lead him on to drink
She's gonna lead him to the brink
And when his money's gone, she'll leave him in the gutter
It's such a shame
Oh, demon alcohol
Sad memories I can't recall
Who thought I would say
Damn it all and blow it all
Oh, demon alcohol
Memories I can't recall
Who thought I would fall
A slave to demon alcohol

Why does he get so little rest

Remember ;D
Boy, she sounds like Barbra Lica.
Kinks is better nf at the dramatic part
Reminds me of Regina Spektor. I like it though...
Not how I envisioned this portrayal: a wonderful tune.
