John Baker and Juli Daoust Baker of Mjolk share their bright and airy city family home. See inside the carefully curated space that’s influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese design.
The couple’s love for natural light and raw material is evident in every room of the two-storey house, which is located right above their store. Unfinished oak, sandstone and untreated leather are used throughout. These natural materials will develop a patina over time. “It will look more beautiful because we’ll see ourselves in it,” says John. The kitchen features open shelves that keep cooking essentials easy to reach, while a unique top-floor courtyard provides the perfect place for the children play.
Oh my goodness. The marriage of Swedish and Japanese simplicity is genius. So zen, so natural. That's the type of house I would love for myself but maybe a little more chique.

I adore their home and decor- the natural and minimal, yet modern and elegant. That said, have you been to the store website? You can't come away with a simple, small watering can for less than almost $500!!! They are truly catering to very limited audience, the rest of us will have to go to Ikea.

One of the best designs ever. Love this house. Only one problem. They talk about natural materials and not staining the woods etc. They incorporated Real leather! An animal had to die so they can have those pillows!

i like how they didnt give credit to a lot of the African elements in their home, such as the mudcloth panel on the walls, mudcloth pillows, African sculptures (mask), and weaved baskets, or even if they knew it was from African, which is often overlooked in alot of European designs and art.

I like the sarcasm but i'd go for more love.. i am hoping and praying for people to credit such cultures and beautiful art to whom it originally belong to such as the African's for this instance

The are elements i like, the fire, some of the natural wood and the kitchen sink, but it's a little dull for me, maybe just one coloured wall would lift it nicely.

I am a bit conflicted, I like everything very much but at the same time it feels like too much of the good thing. The dominant colour pallet feels bland ,maybe with time.as he said, all the unfinished surfaces will acquire patina and get darker and more interesting.
