Hey Dan enjoyed the video.I did flatbed for many years in the Uk and Europe. When I started in 1976 we used ropes and sheets or tarps as you call them. The bed of trailer sat on crossmembers which were spaced along the length of the chassis and secured to it .Hooks were fitted on the end of the crossmembers to secure the ropes to.The rope was secured at one end then thrown over the load and secured the other side using a dolly hitch The front and back of the load the rope was crossed, this pulled the load together and stopped it moving forward or backwards.Straps and ratchets were invented later, and the same method of crossing the front and back of the load used.

Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. Great shots of where your passing through and the music was spot on also. Dan your loads always look so professionally tied down or tarped. Your a great example of what things look like when there done right. Loved the video. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring.

Hi Dan, enjoy your videos very much. I was a flat bed O.O in the 70’s (73, 352 Pete, 1674 CAT. 76, KW, W900, NTC, 350). Technology available today has certainly transformed the industry. Cell phones, GPS, Electronic logs.
We had, road atlas, pay phones. CB radios were new. Fuel was .50 cents up from .30 cents, we were complaining big time! Kept my CDL ( called chauffeur license back then) for 50 years. Appreciate your professionalism and positive attitude. Stay safe.

Windy Wyoming, seems like every time I was going West on I-80 I was running into a headwind and every time I was going East the wind was from the North and it blows hard. Hope you are feeling better soon Dan.

Hi dan, Teresa, bailey and coordinator.
Dan what about running a 2" strap on the bottom next to the deck and behind each bundle pile floor cross member ans pull it forward using your side rails to put some tie force towards the front of the trailer?
You would tighten it last after pulling down to the deck.
Just thinking about forces and available tie points.
Take care out there cross country drivin'

Hey Dan. I believe that the parking lot that you were in at the beginning of the video was the chain up lot just outside of Ft. Bridget. I run back and forth across I-80 in Wyoming 5 days a week. I don’t think the wind ever stops blowing. The snow in that area never melts, it just blows back and forth so much it wears itself out. Stay safe out there.

Morning Dan. As a retired meat hauler from Waterloo Iowa. I only subscribe to 2 truckers. You're my number 1. Funny. Hauled for flatbed company for 1 week . I drove a old Freightliner cabover. This was back in 1988. Last one week because owner would bring us fuel. I quit after we pulled into the Super scales on west bound I-80. He wanted to switch because we were coming up on chicken coop. Lol. He got all the tickets and truck was placed out of service. Family lived in Des Moines so they came and picked me up. Went to work for my last company hauling meat. In the way east saw the truck shutdown at the scales on the bypass around Davenport, Iowa.

Maybe start carrying rope for front and rear securement for loads like these.I used too do a (X) pattern across the front and back of the trailer on the load. And cinched it down with the securement winches or a truckers knot if they're wasn't any available winches.Never had a problem with load shifting at all.
