Last December, Dutch symphonic metal giants EPICA surprised their fans with a very special covers EP release entitled, EPICA VS. Attack On Titan. The release, which was only available in Japan, featured metal versions of the theme songs from the highly successful manga series with 70 Million copies in print turned worldwide aired anime "Attack On Titan". Today, the band announced the EP will be available outside Japan on July 20th via Nuclear Blast Records.
EPICA VS. Attack On Titan was recorded during the summer of July of 2017 at Sandlane Recording Facilities by Joost van den Broek. The original songs, which were influenced by the music of EPICA, were composed by Revo of popular Japanese band LINKED HORIZON. For the EP, tracks were adapted by EPICA and produced by Joost van den Broek. The choir arrangements and scoring were completed by keyboardist Coen Janssen who also handled the orchestral arrangements with Joost van den Broek.

Okay seriously, how did I only just now find out about this masterpiece of a cover? One of my favorite metal groups covering one of the greatest anime OPs ever made? Sheer excellence!!
Story time: I was driving to work listening to my Pandora station, when the display says the title of the song is crimson bow and arrow. I think to myself "ok, it starts off powerful sounding and epic. Ok it's by Epica, so it's more than likely going to be good. Ooh this is really good, but why does it sound familiar?" Cue the big power intro, and my thoughts lost all coherence, "holy shit this is awes- is this- Epica did a- HOLY FUCK THIS IS EPIC!"

Kristina uršič yes, of course I have! I just mentioned their more recent works, but every one of their albums is obviously a masterpiece on its own! My personal favorite is requiem for the indifferent for example, even though it’s not most people’s fave. I think it’s so deep and intelligent!

The lyrics are actually way better than the originals. Proper grammar, metrum and a good singer can do wonders.

Things often translate badly when translated literally. I think thats probably true of most anime theme lyrics.
Epica, instead of trying to hamfistedly translate the originals, chose to write new lyrics in English which conform thematically and emotionally to the originals, and to the story and setting of Attack On Titan. A very smart choice.

Exacto. Este cover es fantástico, pero Epica tiene otros álbumes que son muy buenos entre ellos The Pantom Agony, The Divine Conspiracy, Design your Universe o The Holographic Principle

Legend has it that there is another squad led by Epica, even more intense than that of the Survey Corps.
These covers have each band member at their best. This is also, Simone's best vocal performance since Design your Universe. Love all albums but some go beyond others in multiple areas. This ep goes beyond in multiple areas. Loved it and I hope some of this musicality and intensity appears in their next album.

I like animes as well, my problem is with Attack on Titan. I, myself, don't like how the anime/manga treats the viewer/reader, telling you some kind of conspiracy theory and at the end it just sounds like fan service from the author himself. Coming up like every action packed shonen anime/manga who wants to be something greater with crazy theories and making meaningless plot conspiracies (huuuge nod to Evangelion) after they solve who are the Armored Titan and Giant Titan. I read the manga up untill today, and i find it to be better than the anime. Although i don't like the manga as well. I read it for the sake of having knowledge to speak about it and to know how the story will end (some cases can actually save the entire story if well written). Well... but this is just my shitty opnion and input about it. Then again, the Opening and this Epica song are truly epic.
The thing with me is I don't like anime but Attack on Titan is one exception
