Hilariously enough, I always considered Great White a Blues Rock band. They had the glam look but the music was always bluesy. Good blues rock riffing!
Mark Kendall is actually the reason I picked up a guitar, first song I learned to play was House of Broken Love, and this one. This is a remake, but they definitely revived this song for newer generations. Funny I still have my Original Kramer Nightswan Aztec from 1989 , once again because of Mark lol. Sounds goofy , but I've been playing since so. Really wish Jack was able to play with them again.
Fender uses 25.5 inch scale, Gibson uses 24.75. That's actually a large part of why a strat will always sound like a strat even with humbuckers. The longer scale means more string tension and tighter tones.
This was a note for note cover of "Mott The Hopple" whomb wrote the song exactly as they recorded it !!! This was so far ahead of its time when great white covered it...
You know the best hard rock band ever wrote that modified version first THE ANGELS!! THEY WILL SAVE YOU JUST LOCK YOURSELF IN A STRAIGHTJACKET AND SCREAM SAVE ME 😁😉😁😉😁😉
Awesome stretch, Ian Anderson wrote that song I believe. My band finished rehearsal and went to the local kwik trip and bought refreshments . As we were in there great whites tour bus stopped to ask how to get back on the interstate. There we were a bunch of long hairs talking for ten minutes and no I didn't ruin the moment asking for an autograph..
Throw a capo on the third fret of that bad boy and make things a whole lot easier. I know, I know…”dude, using a capo on an electric is cheating.” No, it isn’t. It’s called using the tools available for the job. 😎
I don't have much of a reach either (just ask my wife LOL.) Anyhow when it comes to playing guitar like this it is difficult if you don't have a good size finger reach. One trick I found was to get that f note he's talking about that's the furthest reach in the blue shuffle he's teaching is by playing it on the d string third fret. To fit it in correctly takes a little bit of technique but it can be done..
@@JM-zq9em that sounds really hard to play in time you're able to do that? I know the spot you're talking about cause that's where I play the note when picking it in a scale, I play albert king style so my technique is mostly self taught and drop tunings have been working for me
Yeah, when I started playing (long time ago) I used my second finger like you are, (instead of my ring finger), to play 12 bar. It's a stretch but you get used to it.
I have the Gibson and the Strat, it's true, the les is easier to stretch out on. Keith Richards arthritic hands shows he should have stuck with a Gibson.
Its actually an Ian Hunter song they covered. Ironically, '70s teen idol Shaun Cassidy covered it in 1980 and his version blows away Great White's sterile, character-less rendition. Also, they weren't glam metal. They were just shitty.
Mott the Hoople was one of my top listens growing up in the 70s. I wore the grooves off the records as we used to say. I didnt know Shawn Cassidy covered this. Thanks Im going to check it out now c if I can find it.
I heard the Shaun Cassidy version and I couldn’t even make the song out ! It had the 80s techno sound and the worst singing I’ve ever heard which isn’t surprising considering the source.
why wouldn't you just move position up to the C on the low E string, it sounds thicker for the intro and it's way easier to reach... then jump back to the C on the A string for the verse part if you wanna cut through the mix better... just my 2cents
That's so cool!!!! Could you do a lesson on the opening line of "and your bird can sing" by the Beatles? I've been trying to learn it but its been pretty hard! I learned the intro to "I feel fine" , "day tripper", and " devil in her heart" tho!

The lead work on House Of Broken Love is among my favourites. His tone and phrasing are exquisite.
If you don't already know check out the sail away album, fire
They just covered that song done by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson in Mott The Hoople...which is the best version.
Great I got that song stuck in my head again.
Great rendition by Mr. Kendall and company. Always loved the big sharptoothed fish and the band.
One of the better live bands

Never thought Great White was Glam Metal, they were always a Hard rocking band. RIP Jack
I wouldn't call GW glam metal, they didn't wear makeup and tease their hair, and it wasn't metal.
They were straight forward bar rock.
Mickl Ronsen-- Gene Genie
I never went to a bar and heard a band that good, that rocked that hard. They did some covers...is that what you mean?
You think glam metal is only from the appearance you idiot?this is a music genre because it is also musically it has its own style

i love this guitar is so pretty
This is an Ian Hunter tune, with Mick Ronson. First done in the mid 70's. Great White did a cover of it.
That amp sounds killer.
OMG love this song. didnt know people knew of this song
Ian Hunter of Mott The Hoople fame
So rare to hear someone give Great White there due. I appreciate this post.

How is the LP different from the Strat regarding finger stretch?
Shorter scale. 24.75 inches compared to 25.5 inches.

Is the les Paul easier because of a shorter neck?

You can bend the 7th a half step
Nice!
You can play the b7 by barring your first finger instead of making that big stretch
That shorter scale really make that much of difference? Serious question.

I gotta use a 3/4 scale to play it
Great cover version of Ian Hunter of Mott The Hoople with Mick Ronson........
Weak cover
Try tuning tre D string up to E... and the E strings down to :D

If you never take your finger off the 3rd fret, and don’t use any open strings, why not just put a capo on 3 and make it easy to play?
