- German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier focused on the need for courage and cooperation in the face of challenges in Germany and around the world in his annual Christmas address.
The German president emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong democracy, stating that that could only happen if people were engaged and if they worked to "ensure that what is not yet good today is better tomorrow."
Steinmeier acknowledged that the year has left many Germans concerned about "unresolved issues here in our country."
The speech included gratitude for police, firefighters, military personnel, health care workers and other institutions.
Looking forward to next year, Steinmeier noted that Germany's Basic Law is turning 75 and should be celebrated.
Steinmeier said the constitution could guide the nation through challenging times.

Why Germany didn't vote for ceasefire ?...no use talking about peace.
On Christmas Day, December 25, Pope Francis traditionally issued the message "Urbi et Orbi" to pray for world peace.
He once again called for a ceasefire in Gaza and went on to infringe on the arms industry, saying that with the continuous increase in weapons production and trade, world peace is out of the question.
He called for an investigation into the arms trade to reveal how "war puppets" are profitably manipulated.
He also claimed that war is a crazy journey without a destination, benefiting only a very small number of people, and the world should say "no" to war.
Putin and his fellows: 'Hello there! Is it okay for you Ukrainians to be invaded and fight a war?'
Ukrainians: 'No.'
Putin and his fellows: ' Ah okay then, nvm, bye!'

In Germany we should first of all be grateful for the peace and prosperity we are enjoying.
It is a concern that Russia and Ukraine are fighting, but not so long ago they were fighting against us which was a lot worse. In addition, there has been war in Israel practically for 75 years and it's not really Germany's fault, either. Israel seems capable of taking care of the matter, and we are supporting them from afar as a reliable ally.
All in all that's not so bad.
I like the Germans and Germany, but you are the reason Israel was founded. You are the reason Russia got rich. Don’t get too comfortable because the impacts from your actions are reverberating around the world.

@@Yourbrightspot Do not judge the prosperity of a country by a few quarterly growth rates. Germany has come a long way since WW2.
Currently, there had been a bit of overheating of the economy when it strongly recovered after the Covid crisis. That's why it entered a bit of a downturn now. Those cycles were typical in more dynamic times. However, now I think we will soon return to low growth with high stability.
Most of all Germany has peace! Many of its former enemies are our friends now, notably France and Poland. In the East our former enemies are fighting among each other which is not ideal, but still better than before.
Germany is crumbling and this guy is in denial. Thanks for being a follower.
Not for a second I want to hear the bs. I did read the comments. He talks about problems. Did he admit Germany is part of the problems from a neutral state to an aggressive follower in 3 yrs ? I highly doubt he did.

Germany's problems are self inflicted due to following US sanctions and its government policy and as a result will de-industrialise.
The EU, dependent on financial contributions from Germany will suffer as a result and will probably lead to problems, especially the ECB and the value of the Euro.
nonsense, the world is moving towards a new cold and the end of globalism. That means more protectionism and tariffs on imports from outside of EU. Germany will most likely benefit from that in the long term.

You can say that about most of the EU. Some countries like Hungary and Slovakia were 80%+ dependent on Russian natural gas.
Well, that has some historical background, that Hungary buys Russian gas, which has to do something with the fact that all of the country's seaporst were seized by the Brits and the French, and later given to the Soviet sphere as a christmas present. Not a single one of these circumstances stands for Germany. @@n7elite517
True, but that would have given Putin time to build pipelines to China and India in the meantime, and he would be even richer today. Germany wasn't dependent on Russian gas, as is proven by how quickly we weened ourselves from it and have found new suppliers. But Russia was dependent on our money, and it hasn't found new customers yet.
ALL ex USSR and Warscaw Pact countries, Ukraine included, were 100% relying on Russian energy, oil, nat gas and electricity, and only got disconnected, after the war started....and got connected towards Germany...
