  • The fifth of the compilation of train videos covers one of the most widely used traction control supplier in Asia, Mitsubishi Electric. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries currently only offers people mover systems (though they tried to bid for heavy rail rolling stock contracts), but Mitsubishi Electric's traction equipment has been the choice of Japanese, Korean and Chinese train manufacturers.
The timeline of this video goes back to 1969, resistor control technology in the venerable Kobe Electric 1100 Series, then chopper control technology for CityRail (now Sydney Trains), GTO chopper technology for Tokyo Metro and SMRT Trains, GTO-VVVF technology for Toei and Osaka Metro, IGBT-VVVF technology for MTR Hong Kong, JR East and Taipei Metro, and finally the latest SiC-VVVF for Tokyo Metro and Odakyu.
Which Mitsubishi Electric equipped rolling stock is your favourite? Which other train video compilations would you like to see? Let us know in the comments below, and if you like more of these do subscribe to our channel!
[Update on Incorrect Pitch]: An investigation found that the frame rate was exported too low, causing the lower pitch. The video editing software has limitations on the frame rates we are allowed to be exported. We managed some sort of a fix for future videos for now, but perhaps when we manage to afford to acquire an Adobe Premiere Pro license that would a long-term solution. Thank you for your patience!

Pretty solid compilation. Now I see why some people think Mitsubishi motors are loud, but I still stand by that nothing tops Alstom's ear violation 🤣🤣
Also, some cars in Seoul Metro lines 1, 3 and 4 uses Mitsubishi GTO-VVVF, and line 6 uses IGBT-VVVF.

If you venture back to Japan again someday, go to the Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto & Nagoya) and have a look at the Kintetsu Railway (近鉄) trains. Nearly all of them as far as I know have Mitsubishi-built GTO-VVVF, IGBT-VVVF and other traction motors.
