Sweet radio! My dad bought a DX-440 new in '91. I spent many nights in '91 & '92 with the inch-thick world band guide surfing the sine waves. It also had great FM reception to pick up WFNX from 60 miles away. Gotta listen to evenings with Nic Carter.. I miss the great parts of Radio Shack.
I think the secrets with this radio are 1. It looks like a Sangean but secondhand a fraction of the price. 2. The separate battery compartments to memory is not lost on a brown out. 3. The three separate modes of tuning and intuitive interface. It's a great pity it is not SSB capable without a lot of internal rework.
Hey Todderbert … you were right about the DX-380 being a Sangean radio! It’s their model ATS-808. I just looked up Sangean ATS radios on eBay, and one of the first ones that came up in my search was the ATS-808 - and they’re identical! Feel free to check it out. Best, Bill W.
Hej Todderbert thanks for the video interesting radio and thanks for the link haven't bought a radio in a while so it itches a bit in my radio buy fingers. Only kidding but you know what it's like to be a radio addict. Hope you stand out in the heat wave see that it is incredible heat in some parts of the usa and, in Lytton in the Canadian province of British Columbia 49.5 degrees Celsius oven heat. Todderbert I'm interested in buying the Tecun CR-1100 I find it interesting take care and have a nice week.
Could you please advise me? I have owned a Realistic DX-400 for years. It still works, but needs a new antenna. I see so many on Amazon, but don't know which one would fit on my radio. Where it attaches, looks pretty small. Some ads say they don't come with the proper screws, and if the one in there breaks while trying to get the old one out, I could be sunk. Any advice on which antenna I should get for this model--at Amazon or anywhere else?
Hey Todderbert: thanks for another great video. It’s amazing how sensitive it is on AM!! I had the dx-440 which I gave away but actually like this one better. Question: have you ever reviewed the tiny Sony icf-T30 pocket radio? It’s about the same size as the Sony srf-s26 but in my opinion way more sensitive on AM! I wonder what you think and if you could do a comparison of the two cause you’re the best at it. Thanks again. Best, Joe in CT
DX-380 Woo! However with all due respect, there is a "no normal" when it comes coaxial power connectors. It will always the OTHER size and it will the OTHER polarity. You know that. :D

Nice.
This one is one under the radar - while everyone coveting the DX-390 and DX-440.
📻😁🙂
Oddly, however, it seems to demand higher prices than a 390 or 440.

Love the Realistic brand radios. Someday I'll get a DX-160 desktop radio. That is my holy grail. :-)
