  • Using Photogrammetry with Reality Capture I'll show you how to scan a full size building (or most of it). We'll take a look at some problems you might face and how to resolve them as well as how your scan looks in a couple of other 3D programs. The cameras I shot with are a Galaxy Note 8 phone and the DJI Phantom 3 Standard.

    This is literally one of the coolest things I have ever seen, I just got microsoft flight simulator 2020, noticed Castello di Vigoleno in Italy did not have photogrammetry data, and now I can add this in. I can even 3d print a little model, this is so, so cool. It will cost like 10 dollars to export, but it will be well worth it.

    What would you do with a scanned building? Make a game environment? Use it for set extensions?
    BTW the idea I was talking about for the lighting at 0:59 was a tool in Unity called Delighting, which supposedly removes all shadows from a texture. Although in my tests it didn't work very well. If I get it working I'll make a video.

    • @GiffysChannel

      That's fantastic. Could that work with 360 photos?
      Edit: wait, what if you could use 360 video? With a Samsung Gear 360, at 30fps, that's 30 4k pictures a second. If you could lower the poly resolution to help performance, one pass with a drone and you have a whole street. Come back the same way at a different height, you just doubled your quality.

    • @3DJapan
      @3DJapan  4 года назад +1

    • @3DJapan

      For a whole building without a drone I guess you could try other rooftops but it might be a challenge to get on top of all the roofs surrounding the main building. Just remember standing in one place and rotating your body like a tripod won't work. You have to physically move the camera to the side or up and down.

    • @3DJapan

      Google maps images are really low quality so you might get something but probably not anything good. Unless you mean the satellite made for the maps. In that case I don't think it would work at all. I don't think they have any parallax difference. The perspective stays the same in all of them.

    • @3DJapan
      @3DJapan  3 года назад +1

      You can pay per use. You add a certain amount to your account ($20 or whatever) then the software takes from that when you export the model. Which is great because you can scan as much as you like for free, trying stuff out, and only play when you export. The fee is based on the number of megapixels used. My last scan cost like $1.30 I think.

      There are more accurate scanners, down to a fraction of a millimeter. I even have videos on one. But they cost way more than this does. This also has the convenience of using just a regular camera.

    • @adamlucivjansky3411
      @adamlucivjansky3411 5 лет назад +1

      Photogrammetry can be more accurate if you do it better :) I saw he used just a phone camera... forget about it if you are serious with photogrammetry models and use proper camera, ideally full frame with 20 mpix or something. Also use tripod for sharp photos, take many photos, hundreds of photos for building like this if you want all the details like staircase going to the basement etc . And the same applies to your drone - decent camera, many photos. Then your results will be completely different.
      Regarding lasers - yes there are lasers accurate to fractions of mm but these are used for close range scanning like reverse engineering of some mechanical parts etc. Typical terestrial laser scanner you will put on tripod and scan building like this will be accurate around 5 mm up to 50 m distance lets say. If you are keen to invest 200 000 euros for some top quality scanner then you will be able to keep that 5 mm accuracy to much longer distances.
