A breathtaking stillness in the opening measures - and a vocal poise that conveys the brink of heartbreak with economy and crystalline grace. One of Handel's small miracles - the elements of music and drama combine a state of near perfection where tears hover in attentive response.

Without doubt the best Interpretation of this piece I ever heard. Absolutely breathtaking, stunning, beautiful... More than great. Thanks for sharing this with us - Anna is a really great talent...
@@christiaanvanderavert7582 Listen to Arleen Auger! Anna is definitely on her way, but she didn't entirely convince me. The da capo was far more convincing than the recitative, and the A and B sections. She doesn't do a bad job. Far from it! But she doesn't convey the emotions as well as Auger, Bartoli and DiDonato. I'm nearly certain that if I were to hear sing this aria in 2019, the overwhelming majority of my misgivings will disappear! 🔥💜🔥
In his operas Handel always found the best bass line there is to accompany the voice. In a way it is a small miracle that he accomplish so much with so little: two violins and bass that's it. I had to look for this aria in the score when I first heard it. There's no harpsichord in the score so I guess it was a convention in Handel's time to leave it out of the score. I wonder what it would sound like without it?
It's there, in the *figured bass* line! It was up to the harpsichordist to build the chords, based upon the indications the composer gave regarding the inversion of the chord. 🔥💜🔥
During the Baroque and early Classical, the bass line is called "continuo bass", that is, the low melodic instruments (cello, double bass, bassoon) together with a harpsichord. Always
Браво! Уже 100 раз слушаю... Очень красиво 🌼
My favorite for this aria was always Kozenya, this Anna Kasyan is as good, as moving, as wonderful.

Yeah, I thought it was a great performance too.

Sounds great. Rich and smooth vocal. And visually Anna resembles Cecilia a lot :)
Hannibal claps first XD
I understand that reference! :)
Послушала Cecilia Bartoli, Natalie Dessay , Sumi Jo. У Касьян Клеопатра самая прекрасная. Может быть, потому что голос ещё свежий?
MrSteelRatt ... Тири тэ Канава, похоже, превзошла всех певиц в этой арии. Анна кое-где в ноты не попадает.
А мне Чечилия нравится больше!

Mucho mejor que Kermes!
En lo personal me gusta más Kermes...
Lack-lustre orchestra. Much more oomph required at 3:52.
She's great, but the orchestra is lifeless
+Richard Tyrell Indeed, they look as bored as their performance makes me feel.
Watch the conductor, he is keeping them reeled in. It fits this rendition.

The singing is divine. The presentation is ... not. She's defaulting into generic-soprano mode and it always looks ridiculous.
3:56 NO LE LLEGO PARA NADA A SIMONE KERMES
