Ah, memories. I purchased my 10's in 1978 powered by a Dynaco Stereo 400 and David Hafler Pre-amp - they always liked a good amount of power to really open up.
I still Have my Monitor 10's I bought new along with my Kenwood Ka-701 amp and Denon Turntable. Washed alot of dishes, at my after School job when I was 14 yrs old to buy in 1980
I have a pair of the Polk Studio Monitor 10As . Bought back in August 1982 for $396. They have a serial number of 98432 on a sticker . I have a Pioneer PD M70 compact disc player from 1987 that I absolutely love. They are still sounding great in my living room today.
I have a pair I play with H-K TA5000x. I picked them up at the thrift store for $100 bucks and recapped them with Clarity caps. My set sound great, the old tube receiver drives them pretty well.
Its interesting that you guys mentioned the bass quality on the monitors, as I grew up in in the 70's listening to these in my uncle's basement. He had 2 pair runing with a SAE eq, and a kenwood kr-9600 receiver, prior to that he had a Sansui G6000, and I remember the bass being extremely tight, I suspect kenwood being known for high dampening factors, not sure if they had the sigma drive topology in that receiver, but I wonder if you tried those Monitors with a different amp if the bass clears up. Also I wonder the age & condtion of the caps in the xover as well. Loved the video btw!
A quad system with 4 of these speakers would be killer! Personally i love the heavy bass. Its not sloppy but it is a bit exaggerated, yet impressive due to the size of the drivers and the cabinet!
im sitting here hearing it on a SANSUI 9090DB now!! on a set of SANSUI SP-X8900 speakers i bought both new when i was in the navy on leave in Japan new !!!!
Steely Dan. . good choice!
No ones forcing you to watch. It was a comparison of bass capabilities. Thought that much was pretty obvious, no? It should be common sense that one wouldn’t actually play that night bass track for anything other than demonstration purposes
@@rockrollhi-figuy6824 I thought it was a good test for those Polk SM 10As ! I have mine over 44 years now you made me realize how old I am. My brother has gone thru 4 different sets of speakers since my Polk SM 10Bs in 1982. I like having money in the Bank & funded IRA / Roth / Brokerage accounts from living frugally.
*DAMN!, 2bad you guys don't have a proper STEREO PAIR to mic this presentation proper and TURN OFF THE AC, OR FAN or what ever is generating all that white noise.*

I had a pair of Polk Monitor 12s several years ago. Wish I would have kept them, great sounding speakers
I just got a pair of monitor 10s in great condition and had the caps replaced. Best sounding speakers I've owned so far

Absolutely love my 10a’s. Best pair of speakers I’ve ever owned and it’s not even close.
What are your thoughts on your pioneer cd player??
The early Pioneer PD-M series are great. Always liked the cartridge style mechanism.
Nice Marantz and cool Speakers
*JBL are front ported + have a larger active low freq driver. To make it more fair you have to plug up that port.*
Yay! I got you up to 6 likes.
Thank you 😎😎

Night Bass by Bass Mechanix
I should have left when you said you preferred it with the loudness on, then played a track that was nothing but booming bass.

@@ag4allgood im thinking about setting up a Quad system with 4 Polk Model 10. I bet it would kick ass.
@@rockrollhi-figuy6824 It would be amazing ! I think they are really hard to beat overall for the price.
