The Impossible is an incredible film. Ewan was stellar (as was the rest of the cast) and some unforgettable overwhelmingly emotional moments. Well worth seeing!
Yes! The 93 film was very well done! There was a documentary I believe called I'm Alive which can get confused for the movie. An incredible story of survival.

OMG the movie “Alive” (I think?) back in the day about the rugby team has always stuck with me. Cannot wait to watch your #1 pick!! My mom, my old Blockbuster buddy, said it’s really good! Awesome list as usual.
The Wild Bunch from 1969 directed by the great Sam Peckinpah. Just like Bonnie and Clyde from 1967, this Western film is super graphic when it comes to violence. The violence is not only gratuitous, but very stylish especially the cuts in between the slow motion deaths. It's got a great cast veteran actors most of whom are already dead if not all of them. And for all you gamers, this film was an obvious inspiration for Red Dead Redemption.
Society of the snow is excellent, I watched it a couple weeks ago and was really impressed by it. Very emotional and well made, totally recommend it if you like survival movies.
I love the lists of movies! I own the movies X, American Assassin, No Hard Feelings, Joker, The Impossible, Alive (same story as Society of the Snow), and Bonnie and Clyde. Wow what a Great list so many Good movies I've seen on here I watched both X and Joker in the movie theater and have watched them many times since then I also Loved No Hard Feelings it's one of my favorite comedys of last year and a couple of movies on here I've been wanting to watch but haven't gotten around to them like the Impossible , the Killer and Reptile I'm going to try to get around to watching them ASAP thank for the list 😁👍
I loved Killer, seen it a lot of times! Society of the snow was great, what I really loved how it was so real and knowing the story and seeing Alive many times, this one showed after they were found too, they still faced horror because of press, the nurses and society felt about how they survived and what they looked like, so emaciated and ghost liked. I liked Reptile, just went on about 30 minutes too long for me. I will be watching your other suggestions, thanks!
Society In The Snow was almost beautiful in its horror. Definitely worth watching. X is also great! I’ve watched it twice and I’m adding it to my classic horror inventory. It is visually stunning! It’s also fresh and nostalgic at the same time! 👍🏼👍🏼
I saw Bonnie and Clyde in the theater when I was 10 years old. X, I was enthralled with what a good Actress Mia Goth really is. Two other good movies are The Impossible and Joker.
I have not seen Survive but Alive is the same story as Society of the Snow as they both cover the Uruguay rugby team’s crash in the Andes mountains in 1972 and their 72 day fight to survive the cold, starvation and dehydration. Both movies are great but Society of the Snow is filmed with South American actors whereas Alive was filmed with many White North American actors like Ethan Hawke as Nando Parrado.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 is absolute monster of a movie. It actually brought me back to S. Craig Zahler and made me read all his books - which are excellent by the way.
Nice job. I thought Reptile was very good. Kinda slow as it goes along, but Del Toro's performance is really something. If you are a fan of Benicio Del Toro, this is absolutely a must see.... He is brilliant. Society of the Snow is probably not for everyone. I first heard of this many years ago, not long after it happened.... There is a book called "Alive" written by a survivor that is very good. There's an old movie they did, a lot like this one in a way.... Basically a story of what happened.... So this is a "re-telling" if you will, but it is very well done, and very well shot. I wasn't wild about the dub, to be honest.... It feels like a foreign film instantly. And I'm not sure if some of it gets "lost in translation" or whatever, but the whole first half of the movie is kinda flat, and it's impossible to tell, is this one of the main guys, is this an important moment.... Maybe that was me, knowing the story, and feeling like "is that him?" and "Is that the other guy?" at various times.... At times early on, I kinda wondered, if you didn't know the story, and you just sat down to watch this, would a lot of it be making sense??? I have no way of knowing.... But it eventually does become clear, so, stay with this one... I do not know how you could not be inspired by this.... If this didn't really happen, no one would believe it.... I've often said, anyone who is in any way part of a search & rescue team NEEDS to see this movie, and read this book... I'm sure people are like "I don't wanna sit through that, ugh, it's depressing..." It is emotional, no doubt, but in the end, it is uplifting, and inspirational. Joaquin Phoenix is the incredible actor of our time from his early days of 8mm to gladiator and his Oscar performance and transformation in Joker he's gone so far under the radar as thee actor of our time.
Hey Darren, i thought you would've seen more movies than I have. We should be about the same age and the movie 'ALIVE' was originally done about this survival story. Mind blown!!!
This is why I appreciate your channel. You separate the wheat from the chaff. And lo and behold there's a Western movie with Pierce Brosnan and Angelica Houston. Cheers mate.
I love how enthusiastically you explain a movie without giving away the plot or the details. Have you seen Bone Tomahawk? I have! I’ve earned a reputation for knowing good movies not just for girls, but guys. I earned this reputation from my first husband, a special operator in the military. on one particular trip, I recommended they take Quentin Tarantino’s true romance. At first they gave it a thumbs down based on the title, then they watched it. Hence, my reputation for picking good movies. And I used that credibility to get them to watch bone Tomahawk with me. Now you have to admit it’s very most of the way, correct? My sons are are adults and have served in the military. They were not happy with how long the movie was taking. And then that part started and they shut up. I still hold the title of the person who can choose the best movies for girls and guys.
True Romance is one of my favourites! It's in my list of Lifetime-Top-20 movies! I loved it years before seeing my first Tarantino movie, didn't even know he did the screenplay! I think it's a beautiful love story, with all the trimmings! LOL I love getting good recco's - even if our tastes aren't exactly on the same page!
Solid films as usual, especially "Brawl in Cell block 99", S. Craig Sahler. A great, talented & visceral director who I think isn't appreciated enough yet. Also loved " The Killer"...you just can't miss Fincher.👍
not really a reimagining if it's based off an actual story/event - it's just 'another telling'. This also did a much better job than Alive, which I watched a few months ago. Alive was fine but this was much better.
I have a couple of flicks to add to my list, thanks man! Also, “I love the shit out of this movie!” Is something I have said about my favorites to my friends and family and totally made some converts out of them in the past
Love your videos! Just a comment, super frustrating that streaming services no longer mark foreign films as they are. I waste so much time trying films only to find that out.
Cell Block 99 was an awesome flick, however, two things I found were disagreeable for me: 1. Jennifer Carpenter was NOT a good choice for his girlfriend, and 2. I absolutely did NOT like the semi-negative ending!
Hey Darren I love your channel, leads me to all the good cinema stuff currently playing. I do not know how you do it but I really appreciate your effort. Saves me from being stuck in Netflix limbo ,clicking my life away. Also we have the same taste in film, so I know when you make a recommendations, chances are I will like it. I am not sure if I will watch the Andes plane crash movie. It maybe a little too harrowing for me. I remember in grade 7, the book it was based on became like a cult book everybody had to read or be out of the loop. I think the book was called Alive, amazing stuff. Any ways keep up the good work, see ya at the movies.
Thanks for the list. I've only seen 'Joker' and 'X'. Both great choices. I also recommend 'The Babysitter.' Samara Weaving plays the VERY hot babysitter/schoolyard protector for 10 year-old Cole. It turns out she is a VERY different person than we think she is. Plenty of over-the-top comedic gore. Think 'Home Alone' if done by someone like Rob Zombie. 'Train to Busan' is the best zombie movie ever made. It's Korean, with English subtitles, but trust me, you won't care. Some say the zombie genre is dead 😉 This one brings it back to life.
I liked American Assassin and Seraphim Falls. Watched them more than once. Vince Vaughn was great in Brawl! Reptile was ok, and I liked trying to figure out the Killer story. A nice line up that I can relate to.
Thanks for your lists of flicks because of you my brother we always have something to watch keep up the good work 👏 👍 👌 the flick "Upgrade" I enjoyed very much quite different very interesting.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the movie Alive at the end when you were talking about that football team. That’s the original OG from that story. Ethan Hawke. Great movie.

Great list Darren, thanks. I loved Cellblockand Society and will check out some of the others
The last gunfight in John Wayne's final movie the Shootist was pretty graphic and intense.
I watched brawl in cell block 99 and X on your recommendations and they were both FANTASTIC...thank you your awsome at this!!!!❤
I love how enthusiastically you explain a movie without giving away the plot or the details.
Also loved " The Killer"...you just can't miss Fincher.👍
seen a lot of these already but thanks for the heads up on Cell Block 99
👍
Fine work / thanks for a great set of reviews.
There is no RUclips algorithm, only Zuul.
I believe Society in the snow is a reimagining of the movie Alive a few years back. It is an amazing story
not really a reimagining if it's based off an actual story/event - it's just 'another telling'. This also did a much better job than Alive, which I watched a few months ago. Alive was fine but this was much better.
Legendary list 🔥
No Country For Old Men is one of the best films ever, if you haven’t seen it, check it out
Wasn’t sure about society of snow. Following your #1 pick I’ll check it out. Great work as always!
Thanks, will try: No hrd feelings" from this list!
I saw believer 2 and that drug od scene was amazing, the whole switching places part is a must watch especially for breaking bad fans.
Blond was amazing. Loved it. Should get an award for cinematography.
Glad u mentioned Back Country, that had hands down the most graphic bear attack scene for sure! lol
For adults, impossible is not that graphic. Just very amazing.
American Assassin one of my favorite movies. Would have loved a sequel.
Another great breakdown video... thank you
X has possibly got the best ever shotgun scene.
Cell Block 99 was an awesome flick, however, two things I found were disagreeable for me: 1. Jennifer Carpenter was NOT a good choice for his girlfriend, and 2. I absolutely did NOT like the semi-negative ending!
Excellent work in providing this video. Which was your favorite or do you have an update for your favority. We watch Netflix.
LOVED both Reptile and The Killer!!!
Wish we had got more Mitch Rap movies. American Assassin is pretty solid.
good list. Seen almost all of these and they very pretty good
The Dude Abides! Love the Shirt!
THANKS
You know it
Frank Marshall's take on the Rugby Team , "Alive", is very good as well.
In my Introduction to Ethics class, we read Alive and wrote about it.
So happy to hear someone even mention Bone Tomahawk! Such a great twist on the traditional western.
Absolutely. Spot on Dialogue and scene setting leading up to the grisly and original ending.
The Killer may be the most rewatchable David Fincher movie. I won't know for until I've seen it a dozen times for comparison.
Soceity Of The Snow was excellent. Good watch.
Great picks , thanks
I like the Rating you created. Bring back the X Rating. I liked it better than the NC-17.
The reptile movie was harder to watch than paint dry
I couldn’t watch the whole movie. Got way too bored.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the movie Alive at the end when you were talking about that football team. That’s the original OG from that story. Ethan Hawke. Great movie.
Thanks for the interesting movie suggestions. Regarding diet/nutrition, I'd suggest you look into Dr. Ben Bikman of BYU or Dr. Anthony Chaffee.
