- While I was getting married in my hometown, Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler were playing this in Rome. To conmmemorate my 6th month as married I decided to upload this video that my friend Tunnel85 recorded there, as a preview of the dvd he´s working on. THANKS!!!!

Surprised by all the criticism, I think this is an absolutely brilliant performance. Bob’s clearly getting very much into the song, very emotive delivery and perfectly coherent to me.
I agree with you completely. Great performance. Bob has never “catered” to his audience. He’s following an older star, perhaps “the same one that 3 men followed from the East”. He’s not (overly) after your praise OR your criticism.
Personally, I never care what other people think of Bob. Love him or leave him. I love him.
He is a musical genius. Always years ahead. Forever changing, evolving, and creating. We will never completely understand him, we're not supposed to. He doesn't want us to. There is no one like him. I saw him twice. So glad I made that happen.
That's a possebility
From what I have read about Bob Dylan, he is not, or was not, a happy soul and very confused about how to live in an honest way.
Perhaps that is the charm...the apparent mystery, mistaken for intrigue and depth...I feel more sad than anything. He can play the harmonica pretty well!!
You must be talking about Mark Knopflers.
Dylan was a bit of a con man.
So difficult to talk in rhythm and with harmony. Man, that voice though!! He and Mark are a match made in heaven.
Cracks me up this song. Bob Dylan doing his thing. Knopflers and band doing theirs. It sounds like two separate songs but it amazingly works
How can Mark make the guitar sound so good? He is the best.
Bob Dylan is one of a kind, does his own thing, and for that i can respect the man a whole lot.
this type of performance is unique to Bob, and btw only super fuckin talented musician can even try to make something like this work. he has a perfect sense of music and rhythm, like no other performer I've seen. it's improvisation, it's singin from the heart, it's making something different every time, and it's the true fuckin rock'n'roll! awesome!
Sorry, no. Dylan is and always was a very good songwriter and a bad musician. He has little sense for rhythm.
@@irregardless1677 that’s just stupid. In fact, he’s a master at phrasing. He may not have a traditionally great voice, but he makes up for it with impeccable phrasing and timing.
@@irregardless1677 Hokum. Bob Dylan is not only a master songwriter but his rhythm and guitar playing are always spot on and he knows more theory than many of the so-called celebrity guitarists that have joined him over the years. just cause he's not shredding the high notes doesn't mean you should overlook his subtle riffs, licks, and fills. Show me evidence of this so-called 'little sense of rhythm.'
Two great artists - Knopler's guitar Dylan's voice, perfect!!!
Great stuff. Love Bob’s growling angry wolf voice.
DYLAN has ALWAYS had a great voice--it matched his brilliant lyrics. His timing, enuciation, spacing, modulation and passion for words....he learned this delivery style from the BEAT POETS that stood at a mic...reading out their poetry in the Village..extending the words for effect------.BUT NOW..at age 72.... sadly...the sun has set on Dylan's voice.
This song contains my very favorite Dylan line: “All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie”.
This doesn't sound like the original but it's cool. Knopfler is amazing, as usual.
There are several advantages to having been born - mid-twentieth century America…being a contemporary of Bob Dylan is...without a doubt…a significant one of them.
+James MG and to Silenus i would reply, the best fate for man is to be Born in Time.
+eudaimonia But to send Time out of one's Mind
is a great feeling!

Lots of advantages in comparison with having been born in 21th century 🙃
Everyone who was there knows the words by heart, this is just another wonderful sharing of both Stars talent...enjoy and don't complain, time marches on for us all. Peace
Bob's lyrics and mark's guitar perfect
Bob seems to be holding back a laugh after “I should of been in Hollywood.” I definitely cracked up! Really great footage.
I’d do a lot for another studio collaboration between those two.
Bob doesnt find the audience. The audience finds him. It's always been that way. He's won about every award there is to win. Named one of the most influential people of the 20th century. Can all of those people be wrong? I think not.
Mark Knopfler is so amazing, and Bob Dylan and Band also. I've watched and listened to this several times. Thanks for posting.
SAW Dylan and Knopfler in San Diego 10/24/12. Mark is as great as always..he played first- great guitarist and great band. Really enjoyed his music. Im a true DYLAN FAN. Bought my first DYLAN LP in 1964,- bought every other one that came out- over 30LPS--have tons of Bootlegs too. DYLAN's voice is so bad. Can't understand the words. He BARKS out short sentences. Monotonous music. LOTS OF PEOPLE WALKED OUT. Sad. Sad. Sad. It tears my heart to see this..like ALI in his last fights. I love DYLAN
If you look closely, this is actually REALLY flippin' good. We should always be wise enough to LOOK, closely...
Mark Knopfler has unmatched wisdom.
wow, Bobs voice!
LIFE WOULD BE VERY BORING WITHOUT BOB DYLAN HES THE MASTER THAT MAKES THE RULES FOR THE WISEMEN AND THE FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU DONT GET THAT MAYBE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT!
Mastership from two monsters. I cannot get bored with this.
nice to see Dylan and Knopfler together again
❤️ wow 2 masters for 1 masterpiece, thanks, some live forever 🥰
Mark Knopfler, the best!
Simplesmente inesquecível MK♥️🇧🇷MELHOR músico do planeta é MARK KNOPFLER. 💃
When bob comes to europe, I'm gonna see every single gig
+zer o...... No you won't, but try to see Bob's Never Ending Tour in about 5 cities, that'll do.
Another gem 💎. Love Bob and mark Knopfler ! Great combination 👌
You'll have to go to the studio version to get an appreciation for the lyric, but Knopfler is amazing here
Give it up now bob, A legend but dont spoil it.
Nice to see Dylan opening an ear-to-ear smile after hearing those magnificent guitar licks at 3:11 and then again at 3:21.
Paulo Vieira Pretty good to have the best guitar player on the world next to you.
Dylan's smile at 3:11 is just awesome. One of the best smiles I've seen from him.
Knopfler is a genius
Two masters, I wish I could have been there,
you got get over that and just appreciate every thiing he does..he does not ever give a performance that is not short of genius..can you imagine the dedication he has to offer so many different anngles..
Well, at least you can't accuse *him* of lip-syncing.
moreanimalspirits he should have retired
moreanimalspirits exelent comment ... how does he even remember the fucking words ... this man is a freak of god ... yes .. that’s a fact !
He thinks he's Tom Waits! LOL
@James Madison troll much there Jimmy?!
@James Madison No, it's your truth.
knopfler all ego? lol... he's one of the most humble and modest people in music biz.
just the fact that he plays on this tour as a "support act" while being one of the biggest selling artists of all time...
Zwei der Besten! Bob Dylan immer noch im Stimmbruch und Mark Knopfler spielt immer noch astrein. :)
One of a kind. Beautiful!
Everyone is a critic nowadays. What ever happened to just listen and enjoy? The greatest musicians and composers playing together.
One absolute superstar up there on the stage, and Bob Dylan as well.
Incredible duo..
I've been an avid listener of Dylan since around 1964, around the time he first brought out a record and I was all of about 12 years old. I really like this song, "Things Have Changed." However, for the first roughly two-thirds of this performance he mumbles and kind of spits out the words. During the last third, he gives a professional singing performance. My feeling is, come on Bob, you can do better. And you usually do better. I've seen Dylan probably about 10 times since 1980, and the performances have ranged from brilliant and inspired, to lackadaisical and robotic. Most of them have been good and even great. I understand that anyone can have an off night, and he does perform a lot. But sometimes it comes across to me as though he is not really putting out because he doesn't have to, which strikes me as trading on his justifiably legendary status as a songwriter and composer. When Dylan gives his all, it is sublime and transcendent. This is not one of those performances.
There's another video on here with Knoplfer where he sings THC faster and he shimmies around, cuts a rug, really seems to be enjoying himself! That's what I look for in a musician performing live. Blast the shit out of audience!
Yeah, he's up and down and sadly, it's all too obvious when he's phoning it in.
I hear you man, he does seem to make it easy for himself at times. Thing is he never really did give a fuck about his audience, at least not when already well established. But he cares deeply about the music and the art, always.
Geoffrey Geiger, Not a performer, legendary songwriter. People walked out when I saw him, but I thought it was fun. The best he ever sounded is with the Traveling Willburys. Chrck out sime of the videos. So I know what he's capable of. God bless Little Bobby Zimmerman.
I like it when he mumbles and is incomprehensible. Comprehension is overrated.
Love this song, different arrangement and I like it. I sing this one every week at my gig and I love hearing another way to do it.
Mark must of thought he was beside god being so privileged to stand so close to bob! What a great man bob is letting people be around him like that
This is the one single best movie on RUclips.
Bob's "LOOK" works well for him, always surrounds himself with the "BEST" and it shows
JUST PASSIN THRU...
Like a Rolling Stone and Blind Willie McTell are too great examples that prove Dylan is one of the greatest singers in Rock 'n Roll.
I'm So Into This Because It's So Sparkling True.
I saw that show. Two weeks from now i´ll be seeing Bob again, twice...some things don´t change.
Genius. Brilliant.
Went to the uk leg of this tour as a kid. Kudos to whoever recorded this at one of his modern shows. Anti camera mirrors everywhere and security all over the place.. I wouldn’t dare!
stupenda versione... wow!!
Oh, yeah, just wait about 20 years, and he'll voice will sound like an opera singer today. Me, I'm looking forward to hearing him at 90.
This held true...good job calling that!
Love ya bob and mark x x pommm x x x
His voice may be shot but he's still the coolest guy on Earth.
The best version
Great fill in's from Knopfler and Bob sings as though he cares
ETERNAL LOVE AND MUSIC = MARK KNOPFLER
Bob's gonna do what he does, and he just don't give a fuck what anybody thinks about it.Never has. You've got to respect that.Plus,he's written some of the best songs ever.
the king of song
1.32 minutes. Pure Knopfler brilliance.
I love this Drummer!!! George Recile! 2:43 4:02
Superb!
Unbelievable - a dream combo
Well said, my thoughts exactly. Dancing with Dylan is like dancing in the flames of the river Styx.
BOB DYLAN the best Forever Young
I should say that I agree with your words 1000% In this very rare interview, as usual he was being extremely humble about his role in the 60's - as he's never accepted that he became the voice of a generation. More than that - he started rattling off some of his lyrics, and he kind of sat there almost amazed himself at their beauty - and that's' when he made that comment. He was saying 'Those words didn't come from me - they came from god.' Meaning that he cannot repeat what he did then.
exactly. no equal. most expressive voice there is.
Thanks for posting this one. Right on atmilinko!
Cant wait to see what we get after a year of marriage
Many people who were around him from '64-'66 have commented on the scene. Baez said England '65 was a drunken, drugged, crazy environment. He's admitted to doing a lot of things, pills and even heroin, saying it "took a lot of medicine to keep up the pace" his words. John Lennon said they did heroin the day of the car ride from Eat the Document footage. He used to smoke a lot, he quit a while ago, but smoked from 13 or 14 until his 40s at least. I know my Dylan.
Hypnotic.
Sounds like a heavy footed man walking in the woods with the birds singing all round him
YEAH BOYS YOU ARE THE BEST I AM JUST SMOKING AND LISTENING TO YOU BOB HONEY I LOVE YOU
Such a great tour that year!!
I'm probably going to sound like my mum, but I can't understand a bloody word he is saying. Mark Knopfler on the other hand, could play an elastic band wrapped around a tobacco tin and I would be captivated. The guitar playing gift of the Gods to the human race.
Martin Froumer Totally agree
Amen to that sir.
Sounds like Mark's playing the elastic band wrapped around a tobacco tin while simultaneously Bob is smoking all the cigs at once.
Martin Froumer Amen!!!
Two of the best here. Dylan the legend & Knopler the Sultan of Swing. No,silver guitar or not Mark is an equal legend to Dylan.
great Bob!
Nobel!
dear michael: I've been listening to Bob very properly since 1981, have seen 384 life-concerts, many of them in front row.. I know what I heard in the past and what I hear now....
good..
Thanks for this jewelry.
I've been a big fan of Dylans for many years now, here I can't understand a single word he says.
This was the 3rd song they played at our concert. I REALLY WISH I RECORDED Argh
He doesn't need to sing just listen to the lyrics Best in the Music Bussnisse I am a big Bob Dylan fan rock on
John Prine, the best lyricist.
Bob Dylan just sounds so-o-o much better when Knoffler is there too!
If you see Dylan on numerous occasions, You KNOW every time is different! Including His sound, and arrangement! either you Love him or you do not......I LOVE HIM!
Thanks for sharing
I got into Dylan, Way back in the 1960's....Listenin' to the lyrics after suckin' on an
LSD soaked sugar cube. His lyrics painted some pretty heavy duty images in my mind.
Nowadays I have to strain my head to hear the lyrics.(And it's a bit of a bummer)
After all, as many of us discovered back then, his lyrics were a bit more than half the song.
( Still Love the guy though )
Bruce M Carleton Jr And your point is?Maybe the LSD addled your brain? You got into Dylan in the '60's, did you? What did you do then? Stop listening to hm? I mean, if you know his stuff, making out the lyrics isn't that difficult. Of course if you're not acquainted with his more recent songs, then yes, it is difficult. Just find your comment strange...
bullhorn3tails
" And your point is?Maybe the LSD addled your brain?
===================
It certainly did. and in a very good way !
I was simply trying to say that my ears and his voice have seen better days and sometimes it's difficult to make out what he's saying..
Now....... HOW is that strange ?
+Bruce M Carleton Jr
No, no, point taken! No offence meant...
Now, why is this getting so many hits..?
Nikki S try guessing better!
Marks playing makes this song
Rock on Robert!
Had to listen to this again to see if I heard right the first time...
great duo...!
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
2 Géants !!!
Hey, that's my birthday and yeah, things have changed!
BOB DYLAN 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤩😍❤👊🤘
genius above all ~ in the ring a ding ding ... knocked em all out in 65 ... they fall ~ he floats.
Guten Morgen, mein geliebter Bobby! Ich wünsche Dir einen wunderschönen Tag!
