    You should fill the water with small pebbles (stones) so that baby quails don`t drown to death...it is very important

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  5 лет назад

      True, you can also use marbles to increase pecking behaviour. In this video I was present and quickly put in a small layer of water. In the other videos you can see I indeed use pebbles.

    My broody button quail is sitting on her eggs for longer than two weeks. But she leaves her eggs for eating and drinking several times a day. Should I be worry about the eggs?

    Hi bro ,my quail is giving eggs but its not hatching. please tell me the reason for not breeding

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  5 лет назад +2

      This can have so many reasons, I don't know your situation. The most common things are to much stress (male, other pets, humans), not in the right condition (food, time of year etc), not the right instinct (happens a lot with incubator animals), not enough cover (don't want to breed if they are to exposed), to young (need to be at least 1 year old). But again I don't know your situation. Hopefully you recognise one of the above and can change some things so that she will breed. Hopefully you will succeed, love to see naturally bred chicks.

    My button quail is collecting eggs and wants to incubate them, she already has 8 eggs. When will she stop laying and start incubating. Do I need to reduce light for her to start incubating and stop laying? What material do you use for her nest? Can I use dry grass?

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  4 года назад +4

      Dry grass will do, mostly just a relativly hidden spot will do the trick. No she starts incubating when she is ready. If she is collecting the eggs that's a good sign.

    I have a question, i noticed a single egg in a closed off area (that i surrounded with leaves and straw in my aviary) But the parents dont seem to be sitting on the egg for a whole lot, ill see them time to time coming over, sitting on it for a few seconds and coming right off. The egg is cold and i only found it today, so im assuming it was laid earlier today or yesterday. I read up online that they need to lay a clutch then they will incubate them, is this the case? And wouldn't the egg go off or 'die' to have to wait that long being cold. I'm quite confused on wether to leave it or not. Will the egg not hatch? Im really confused so some help would be appreciated.

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  6 лет назад +1

      It is indeed true that they will start incubating when the clutch is complete. They do this so all the eggs will hatch at the same time. Sometimes they lay eggs trough the whole aviary and at the end bring them all togheter. The egg can stay cold for a long while. Cold will only kill the eggs when the egg is incubated for a while and there are already blood fessels inside the egg, then it is important the female will keep them warm. Just wait and see if they lay more eggs, often they lay an egg every other day.

    • @june3515
      @june3515 6 лет назад

      thank you for the information, they have now laid 5 eggs, still not constantly sitting on them tho, how many eggs will make a clutch? And im pretty sure these guys (maybe except my silver female) is a first time layer/breeder. If they do not end up incubating will i be able to hatch the babies with my cockatiels and introduce the chicks to the quails, or will they kill them/ the hatching egg?

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  6 лет назад

      Oyasumi If you incubate and raise them by hand i wouldn't recommend to put them with your quails or cockatiels before they are like 4 weeks old. if the mother incubates them it is much saver she will protect the little ones. a clutch size can on average range from 6 to 10 sometimes even 20 (then it is wise to take some out)

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  3 года назад +2

      They need to be at least 1 year old. But it is very hard to get them to brood. They need the proper food and the proper environment. Check my channel for more quail tips. Due to generations of incubator chicks it is difficult to get them to brood, but it is possible. Do you know if you have incubator qauils or naturally bred quails?

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  6 лет назад

      Due to the shear amount of incubator birds, they lose their instinct to breed. Starting with naturally bred quails and a natural environment takes you a long way. I will try to make a video on how to breed quails soon.

      Sarah K it depends, if the male is not harassing the female all the time and is accepting the chicks he can stay. My first male was always laying quietly next to the female so he could stay, my new male only wanted to breed all the time so I took him out.

    what are the conditions to king quail get broody

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  7 лет назад +3

      Most important is health. Females with low health dont have the energy to get broody. Next, temperature and the amount of daylight plays a role, however this is less important then in other aviary birds. At last background. Quails hatched in an incubator for multiple generation are less likely to brood, thats why I always recommmend people to try natural breeding.

    I thought a female quail lay an egg a day. Does that mean the mother would have to hatch every day as the chick will come out one day at a time?

    • @MrAviary
      @MrAviary  4 года назад +3

      She lays an egg every other day. But she will start breeding after she layed all the eggs. This way all the eggs develop at the same time and rate and hatch also at the same time.

    • @rkade1838
