the Bose Acoustimas 16 system includes 5 dual-cube speakers, 1 center channel speaker, and 1 powered Acoustimass® module.
If you count actual speaker drivers, it comes out to 15 speakers since there are 3 5-1/4" speakers in the bass module, 2 in the center channel and 2 in each of the 5 dual cube speakers.
Bose Acoustimas systems are great at making small rooms sound large and movie theater like. Very nice.

@r4ptors21 Sorry. The Bose Acoustimass systems are “passive” and require a receiver/amplifier to power them. If you like Bose speakers and want to use them with your laptop, you may want to consider their “Companion” series of powered speakers. The Acoustimass speaker packages are designed to work with any receiver that offers at least 5 channels of amplification and a subwoofer output. The cube speakers cannot be used without the supplied subwoofer. If you want to use Bose speakers without a required subwoofer, you may want to consider their 201/301 bookshelf speakers or the smaller 161s. I've auditioned quite a number of system before I went for the Bose Acoustimass system. Those floor standing speakers with matching surround speaker and sub are nice but they don't give me that cinema like sound feeling, they sound like they're all mix together. I even returned an Infinity tower, sub and surround system because of this. With the Bose Acoustimass I can actually feel diffuse sound emanating from the tiny cubes and bass filling the room for that true 5.1 experience. Try it!

You are absolutely correct. The Acoustimass speakers are designed to be connected to the Home Theater Receiver of your choosing.
The Bass module has its own built in amp, but the little speakers get their power from the amp in your HT receiver.

@asatruviking no your right, i definitely should care about frequencies my ears cant physically hear.... we can hear roughly down to 35, and i tested the acoustimass module got the about 35, and by the way , the bass module is designed to play mids and lows, it has dedicated drivers for each inside the enclosure
I am musician and I love music. I decided for an Acoustimass 10 Serie 4 System. Music room is 20m². When I installed it, I used a 15 year old Yamaha amplivier to my Bose. It sounded terribly, or lets say even bader as the old but good speakers. However, this was not what I expected from it...Then I used a YAMAHA RX-V 467 with subwoofer connector which is binding for listening to the wonderful sound which it has now! Not possible to describe how fuckin' great!!!! :) *****5 Stars! SOUND EXPERIENCE
Got this a few years ago and love the sound. The only problem is you can't upgrade anything and your just stuck with it : (

@heartache33 Unfortunately, no, you cannot use the Bose Acoustimass speaker system in your vehicle. While it’s not actually impossible, you would need a conventional home A/V receiver amplifier and a power inverter for the receiver, the surround sound audio source, and the powered subwoofer module of the Bose speaker system. in my livingroom i have Bose Acoustimass and i telling you... Its sooooo nice! And the subwoofer is soooo damn nice.

hi i have the bose Acoustimass 10 -- (lifestyle 38) and im having a little trouble with it, i can get the middle speaker to work, and the sound is amazing however the two side speakers and the two rear speakers do not work, please could you guid me in to how i could get them to work (they are plugged in)
Just purchased a 2nd hand BOSE LIFESTYLE SYSTEM. l listened 2 the system 1st off as the chap had it hooked up 2 a blu ray player & sony tv. These little speakers 3 front & 2 rear with base & amplifier sounded terrific. Decent sound 4 such small speakers.
Crutchfield. Could I connect only the single speakers to my Harman Kardon AVR-700 (75 Watts per channel) Receiver? It works for front and rear speakers? I love Bose but... Not sure if works with another Home teather system... Thanks for the answer!! Al.
can i rotate bose jewel cube speaker in 180 degree?? i have acoustimass 10 series IV, my father like to have a sound at the back of our standing cabinet so that it can heard good sound at the dining room. In the front speaker, upper cube rotate 180 degree facing at the back, and lower cube facing in the front.. is that OK? no problem of my speaker? maybe that can cause damage of wiring inside of speaker?
