I honestly think they’ve done a decent job on trying to make the game ‘realistic’ - that is the idea. Trail braking and understeer is very hard to get right in real life, so it should be hard to do on a driving simulator game. Unfortunately for me on controller, its less playable 😢. As an A rated driver - I have found adapting very difficult, but I will still keep trying.

I like the update. I find myself playing AC or ACC more often just because of the weird things that are required from you in GT7 to be fast. The snappy turn-in that all of the fast players do is unintuitive and clumsy if you're used to how a car is supposed to handle. One of my main complaints about this game has been the unrealistic amount of speed someone can carry through a corner, and its finally been fixed. +1 in my book. 5:45 is a perfect example - you shouldnt be able to crank the steering at that speed and not expect understeer. And the dirt physics are so damn good now, it's like playing Colin Mcrae Rally only more VISCEREL. The FFB is more detailed with much more subtle queues now rather than the onenote FFB of previous GT7, rewarding people with high power wheels that can turn up the FFB and feel the detail, time to buy Fanatec DD+ guys, you will not regret it, anyone complaining on controller or G29 , time to upgrade, 8nm direct drive is the minimum to appreciate this update, and you will have to set FFB to 80-100%. For DD+ My FFB settings are: FFB:50 (100 for CSL DD)(GT7 set to 8) FUL:50 NDP:50 NFR:15, NIN:10, INT:OFF, FEI: 100, FOR:100, SPR:OFF, DPR:100

I had to change my ff and g29 wheel & pedal sensitivity to improve my tyre wear by 20%. did a test on suzuka with vantage gr3, 5 laps, 5x tyre, 5x fuel. the difference was the last lap with nearly 0 front tyre both left and right before vs 30% remaining on front left and 15% remaining on front right after the changes. not very realistic at all considering i'm doing the exact same lap, time, line and input on each comparison. I suspect there are other changes here but they are just mysterious and complicate the argument whether or not the physics are broken. so many variables here. I do think the physics have good changes, it feels more predictable now and on a g29 its much easier to predict a loss of control and regain control from a slide or spin.

I play with a controller, which of course is a tad different. The main issue i'm encountering is that you now need more precise inputs on braking, and well, that's definitely the hardest thing to do on the controller. My laptimes have taken quite a dive since this new update. Also, i mainly drive gt3's, so... yey.
Another issue i had was the weekly race with the new lambo (gallardo iirc), that was hilarious, i couldn't complete a single lap without the car massively snapping on me on the exit of corners. And of course with the braking inputs now needing to be more precise, i didn't have a good time going into many of the corners either. I didn't really bother with trying to get to grips with the car either, just win the race, get the credits and move on. So definitely some shared responsibility between me and the new update when it comes to my performance there.
I don't know, up to now, I can only give this update a big thumbs down. I don't drive roadcars, so them getting better doesn't really affect me, but the gt3's performing worse really bugs me, as that is 90% of my racing.
Again, it may be different on a steering wheel as pedals do allow more precise control, but with a controller, it really got a lot harder imo. My avg laptimes on nurnburgring 24h are atm still 4 seconds slower than they used to be, and I do end up kissing the barrier and mowing the lawn a lot more often now. It just got waaay too snappy for me to be able to overcome with the controller. Maybe after enough time i'll get the hang of it, but right now, it's pretty terrible.

On the Logitech G Pro Wheel - it's SO MUCH BETTER ... It simply feels much more natural to steer and to brake, and the connection between wheel and breaking fits the experience i have from driving a real car. Yes, Porsche is practically undriveable in Bathurst. Turn 2 and downhill is very hard to do on controller. The rear snaps all the time since you need to trail brake between 20 and 30% which is very hard to do if you only have 10 mm of movement on the controller with zero feedback which you get using a wheel. 1 mm too much input means your rear goes and 1 mm below means you miss the corner. To be that precise you need massive talent or practice. I did around 6h in Gr. 3 and still can’t handle the cars with low A+ DR. Can only imagine how bad it is for average player. Trail braking in some turns is just way too hard on pad like watkins glen right hander uphill. Even if the rear doesn’t go you need to release the brake very very gentle and i am not able to do it consistently. It took the fun out of the game for me for now. Hope either i improve massively or PD adjusts things.

Not sure if it just happens to suit my driving style, but more importantly, I feel like the FFB has improved a lot. The FFB seems to be much more informative, enabling me to correct out of a mistake more easily b/c I have a greater understanding about how the tyres and suspension are reacting to the track. I did experience the understeer quite a bit too while getting used to the Eiger Nordwand, but it didn't seem overly prevalent on other tracks. Maybe those hairpins just tend to make Eiger a bit more of a front limited track. (the ft tyre wear outpaced the rears noticeably due to the fronts sliding a lot)

A lot of people comparing the physics to that of real cars. I have to disagree. They are completely exaggerated. I own an Rx8 and two mx5's. In the interest of the fairest possible test, I have driven both of them in the new update, completely stock.
Both now understeer aggressively at speeds that their real life counterparts would have no issues with, and both oversteer aggressively as soon as you trailbrake.
IRL trailbraking is not that sensitive in the majority of cars. 10-15% braking pressure is all you need to pitch the nose in to the apex, in the game, it now feels like you are locking the rear diff while cranking the steering lock on and holding braking pressure late into the corner, just from a normal amount of trail braking. It's absurd!
The oversteer/understeer characteristics were poor before the update but this is a massive overcorrection. People saying it's more realistic just because it's hyper sensitive now. Newsflash, more sensitivity doesn't always mean it's more realistic.
Gr cars seem to be barely affected but road cars are utterly hopeless now.

I am a rare gt7 player using the tilt function of a PS4 controller to drive and I conducted a little scientific experiment, driving a gr.3 around deep forest.
My findings are that my time after the update was _three seconds_ off my old time. It wasn't the car; I just couldn't drive the thing anymore. Bonkers amounts of understeer and paradoxically a far looser rear end on the power.
Driving the honda F1 thingy demonstrates the steering changes very well.
My personal take is that this update is a net negative really, but only in its implementation. It makes the game a lot less accessible for those not willing/able to fork out the money for a wheel, and I feel like the understeering on the brakes is the key part of this. It feels like there is a huge reduction in mechanical grip specifically.

I feel like that update was made with the top players in mind. Being at the top meant they had to understand how to abuse the physics and it would lead to some completely crazy driving styles you could witness simply by watching the replays from the weekly time trial's top scorers. People were often four wheel sliding through corners at blistering speed which always looked very insane, unrealistic and straight up broken. I feel like the update was made to adress that issue specifically (among other things). However, those driving styles also required pretty much a mastery of the physics model to be exploited properly, which most people didn't have anyway. I play casually on a controller and I felt like the physics were nearly as perfect as it gets for someone like me, allowing me to express myself pretty easily without absolute mastery of the system. It was obviously a little too forgiving, catching up oversteer especially felt pretty generous, but perfect for my limited skill set and hardware. Now I feel like all this was sacrificed in order to give us something more "realistic" that can't be as easily exploited (however will inevitably end up being because some people are always trying to push things to the limit especially in a competitive setting) which is good for fair competition at the top but pretty jarring for the rest of us. I would get why GT7 would go that route as it is trying to prove its relevance as a legitimate driving "simulator" which present itself as a bridge between virtual and real life racing, but I can't say that I'm personnaly finding the change too enjoyable so far to say the least... Now everything that isn't a road car feel difficult to rotate, all tyres feel a lot more grippy overall and so it is way harder to catch oversteer (I'm really struggling to drift now, which is sad because it's something I really enjoy doing on my controller) and the road cars's suspensions are now all pretty wobbly, which is very strange and maybe unexpected perhaps - it basically feels like all the values were lowered, especially the anti-roll bars and the frequency; if you crank those up, it seems to get more manageable though you still have to deal with the increased tyre grip. This can be easier to manage on a wheel but requires an immense level of finess and dexterity on a controller inherently not designed for such subtle levels of input. I feel like most people being fairly casual players explains why the changes have been received somewhat poorly so far, or at least with, let's say, "mixed enthusiasm".

Love the track, hate the physics mostly, mixed bag over all.
Some cars became uncontrolable under brakes compared to before, spinning out on straights without steering input.
PP ratings changed requring re-tuning to keep them in their PP ranges, costing up to 5 seconds in lap times.
On the plus side, rally/dirt handling improved significantly and is actually fun now.
Wheel/FFB settings are apparently glitched for some wheels, but can't confirm for the lack of a wheel.

As a casual controller user, the update has killed the game for me. I loved just being able to pick up a controller, jump into a competitive race and still be competitive whilst still having a decent experience.
Im not wanting to spend £200+ just to be able to play a game. Of course it's marketed as a "driving simulator" but it's a massive shame for me that it feels like they've completely lost the spirit of gran turismo and what made me fall in love with the game. I hope they do something to make controller playability a better experience as i can't see myself playing the game again which is gutting.

As someone who doesn't play and only watches, this seems like an amazing update. The dry seems to just be adjusting yourself to this being the new normal, and some tweaking will, of course, be done still. Wet seems incredible. Dirt, too, although that's hard to notice at times with the fixed camera, makes everything look less smooth/good. I love the idea of people with different lines and strategies that work with different cars battling in the wet. Looking forward to that, I'd love to see more variation like the Mitsubishi recently. It's so nice to see different cars in action. Cheers

I have no experience track racing in real life but i have some experience in offroad racing and I always thought there was too much going on with the wheel but now I have to say I like how the car lands and settles on the dirt now but the gliding feels like you are on a frozen lake covered in powder snow and I'm not really feeling the bumps and camber of the track, feels a bit dull. It's kind of like feeling up your partner with oven mitts on if that makes sense. So somewhere in between would be the sweet spot for me realism wise. Kudos on the Jordan livery btw.

You say "it's hard to steer" with a nice set, imagine steering with the joystick, it's a nightmare.... i go slow and have a sharp turn, i let go of the gas and add no brake since i was already slow, but the car goes straight, it doesn't even flinch... and i myself have driven sporty cars like RX-8, i gotta say that reality is much different from the game, in reality even if you go fast, the car turns any way you want...

I also noticed that the over down force has been significantly reduced.
The Peugeot HDI FAP LMP car used to have a max down force of 2000 on the rear.
    Now it's max is 1600.
Another thing is the tyres give you more PP.
My 600 car has sport hards, it was 599.67, after the update, it's 608.78. So i had to significantly reduce my horsepower to comply with 600 PP.

Is it just me or does someone else think they broke the whole game with this physics update? Somehow a lot of cars behave very weird. The suspention does some ridiculous stuff like hammering up and down on some cars like the mazda 3. And a lot of cars tend to understeer way too quick. Also a lot of cars have now completely different lp levels than they had before. Some cars even just have an attention sign instead of the lp points and you cant use your settings anymore that worked perfectly fine.

Everytime they do this I quit playing for several months until I find the desire to deal with retuning all my favorite custom builds.
First time it was 6 months. Second time was 7 months.
Edit. Call me crazy. The night if the update I played the game immediately after the update. The car I was racing just before the update added 3- 6 seconds onto every race. Ran them all twice with same results across the board. Went to bed pissed.
Today. I play again. Same car. Same races. All races shaved 3-5 seconds off the times I set the morning(4am) of the update.
Did they change something to fix the glitches from the update or am I experiencing something else?
Car did feel more planted with less snap oversteer despite still being floaty and bouncy from the update. Weird.
Oh and BTW use the new free PP points to lighten your car if possible. Grip is where you lost the points gained from the update.

@SuperGT, I noticed a massive tyre wear issue from using a g29 wheel. I changed the force feedback settings to the absolute minimum and lowered my steering and pedal sensitivity and now I have a 20% tyre wear improvement. I'm doing the exact same lap, time, line and did a comparison on suzuka with 5 laps, 5x tyre, 5x fuel in a vantage gr3. I can't comprehend what is causing the massive difference but there's alot going on here. This update probably means everyone will have a different experience and clinical testing needs to be done to get to the bottom of this mess! I have a feeling something is wrong with the tyre model which clouds the improvements of the more realistic handling physics.

I could be bad (very likely) however I’ve looked at guides for how to complete with gold and even when getting the same racing lines and settings I come nowhere near passing either where the guide is nor passing the final car. My best attempt I was still a car and a half behind 1st. I have had no other issues with missions thus far and hope it is just a skill issue as this would suck for newer players or completionists if it is impossible with the new physics

Absolutely zero turn-in, and no vibration feedback mid-corner. Road cars at least have _some_ turn-in, but have awful midcorner stability unless you're extremely careful with your trail braking, to the point that I'd say a fair few modified road cars are undriveable for most controller players.

Massive improvement for me on my G29. Feels similar to all the hours I put in to Assetto Corsa original on PC years ago. GT games have never 'felt' as good to drive compared to the cars on original AC and this update is hugely similar to my feel. I know it's not necessarily the most realistic as iracing, ACC, rfactor 2 etc but for road cars at least, it's a huge step in the right direction. I've used AC twice to prepare for track days in an MX5 and it was hugely useful for not only understanding a track, but for controlling the car on the limit for oversteer, understeer, braking technique and throttle control. GT now feels a lot closer to doing this more effectively than ever. I do understand that to a huge chunk of the player base this could be frustrating. It's a step towards more full fat SIM characteristics for car control than ever before.
