OMG! 134340 is an underrated masterpiece! That line from RM "my cold heart is 248 degrees below freezing it stopped on the day you erased me, damn" -248 degress is the temperature in Pluto! BTS writes songs about topics that no other group makes and how they make it sound so good and lyrically interesting takes genius level talent!
So, you wanted a little bit about PLUTO, here's a lot about it! Haha 134340 is the reference number for Pluto. the whole song revolves around the fact Pluto was considered a planet until 2006, when scientists found a larger celestial body in space than Pluto, which was a dwarf planet (Eris, mentioned in the beginning verse by RM) and because of it, reconsidered the definition of a planet, deeming Pluto too small to still be considered one (it lost that status). BTS make a metaphor out of that for a human relationship, the feeling of being rejected, alienated and marginalised by someone, erased from their life (just how Pluto was rejected and erased from the planetary system). Pluto is basically a song telling a story about a relationship, how it used to be something but it's now something else, it deals with identity, rejection and isolation. The song an incredibly meaningful piece with clever lyrics that illustrate the pain of loving someone who no longer reciprocates that love. “There’s not much difference from yesterday / In the same day-to-day activities, only you don’t exist.” -- Like I said, it's an incredibly meaningful piece with clever lyrics that illustrate the pain of loving someone who no longer reciprocates that love. And the piece uses several elements of poetry and literature to deliver this message. Throughout the whole song, the lyrics demonstrate a metaphor: comparing the speaker to the former planet of Pluto (now known as 134340 Pluto). The songs uses repetition of the lyric “I still revolve around you” to place emphasis on the fact that the speaker still loves this person, even though they no longer reciprocate the feeling. These elements of the piece, as well as the use of voice in general, contribute to an overall melancholy mood, tone, and meaning. The lyrics themselves present an intense tone of despair, as they focus on feelings of heartbreak and longing. These emotions are primarily established through use of figurative language, as well as the repetition of certain negative phrases, such as “You erased me” and “You forgot me”. For these reasons, the clever use of voice contributes to an overall dejected and melancholy mood, tone, and meaning. Above all, the most interesting and complex part of this piece is its meaning. The speaker seems to be communicating with a former significant other, one who has driven him away and no longer loves him. As mentioned, the speaker uses a metaphor comparing himself to Pluto in order to describe this situation. To begin with, the speaker still seems to love his ex-partner even though they are no longer together, stating, “I still revolve around you; / nothing has changed. / But if love has no name, everything has changed”. This directly parallels the story of Pluto’s reclassification. This reclassification obviously changed nothing about Pluto itself. However, astronomers’ perception of Pluto changed, making the former planet different than they originally thought. In the context of the song, this represents that, though the speaker’s love for his ex-partner did not inherently change, the relationship between them did, and nothing is exactly the same for them as it was before. The speaker goes on to say, “Have you really found Eris?”, which, according to the story of Pluto’s reclassification, insinuates that his former lover may have found someone new. Like I mentioned, in 2005, astronomers discovered a new dwarf planet called Eris that was larger than Pluto. This discovery led astronomers to question the definition of the term ‘planet’, which ultimately led to Pluto’s reclassification. In the context of the song, this alludes to the fact that the speaker’s ex-partner may have found someone new to love or made a realisation that caused them to end their relationship with the speaker, just as the discovery of Eris caused astronomers to reclassify Pluto. The ending of this relationship appears to cause great emotional distress on the speaker, most likely because he still loves his ex-partner. The lyrics “My cold heart is negative 248 degrees / It stopped the day you erased me” demonstrate this. The temperature -248 degrees Celsius is incredibly significant because it is approximately the coldest temperature ever recorded on Pluto. Therefore, this indicates that the speaker feels more frigid and empty than he has ever felt before because his former lover ‘erased’ him, or left him behind. Without his ex-partner in his life, the speaker seems to have lost his sense of purpose, as demonstrated through the lyric, “I’m running idly”. This insinuates that, though he is still continuing on in his life, he lacks the purpose and foundation that his former lover once gave him. He states, “There’s not much difference from yesterday / In the same day-to-day activities, only you don’t exist.” Once again, this illustrates that, though his daily life itself has not changed, the speaker still feels the impact that the absence of his lover has made. He seems to have a sense of hopelessness now that his ex-partner has ‘erased’ or ‘forgotten’ him, indicating how important this person was (and still is) to him. Towards the end of the song, the speaker makes the conclusion, “I am Pluto of numbers and darkness, that may be hard for you to remember / But I would still revolve around you.” These lyrics are exceptionally significant, as they tie all the main themes of the song together. The phrase “I am Pluto of numbers” refers to Pluto’s reclassification; when it was designated a dwarf planet, astronomers assigned it a set of numbers (134340) rather than a name. With this phrase, the speaker is, once again, relating himself to Pluto after its reclassification, showing that he has been ‘erased’ from his former lover’s life, just as Pluto was erased of its name and status as a planet. Additionally, when the speaker states “that may be hard for you to remember,” he alludes once more to the fact that he is now forgotten by his former lover, just as the number ‘134340’ is easily forgotten. Despite this, he still says, “But I would still revolve around you.” Essentially, this reiterates the theme that, though his ex-partner has forgotten him, the speaker still loves them and would do anything to be with them again. In the final analysis, the song ‘134340’ by BTS is a very complex, meaningful piece that demonstrates the pain of being forgotten and unrequited love.
FUN FACT~‘Mooonchild,’ ‘Mikrokosmos’ & ‘134340’ are three BTS songs that have been added to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) playlist upcoming journey to the moon in 2024 to mark 50 years of the Apollo Mission.
This song is sooo unique but also has kind of a 70s feel. I’m full on obsessed with how fun this one is especially Suga’s part. I have a tee shirt that is Pluto feeling upset it’s not a planet anymore. Love that goofy little ball.
I BLAST this song when I'm house cleaning or running errands. This jazzy/ R&B sounds had me hooked from the moment I heard it and the play on words comparing lost love to us finding out Pluto is not a planet...GENIUS!!!💜
John, this is one of my favourite songs from BTS .. I did not know that Pluto was just a number until I heard this song, like you I grew up knowing that Pluto is a planet in our solar system .. it came as a shock to me that Pluto was relegated to a number .. thanks to BTS I learnt something .. I think this song deserve more love 👍👍🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜 the double meaning of the song is so BTS definately love the live version
Pluto has everything bts has creatively, good lyrics, class, musicality, variations, good use of their voices and styles. And a daring producting. My ultimate favourite
I never forgot you Pluto. You'll always be a planet to me. #JusticeForPluto 💜💖🤗 Such beautiful and poignant song, with beautiful and unique vocals. Tae and Jimin's voices in this song give me chills.💜🥰😍 And, as others have said, there is something of a retro 70s vibe to the song. Sort of 70s Lounge Funk, which is really interesting. As I was born right at the end of 1968, this song creates a strange sense of nostalgic affection when I listen to it.💜
It’s such a smart way to create a son! First, you name it after the identification number. Then to top it off, you connect real life events of Pluto practically being kicked off from being a planet and connect that to the song… they way BTS represent that is beautiful! Also can we appreciate the vocalists and rappers in the song? They all did so well in their respective parts. One of my favorite lyrical BTS songs
I really enjoy the 70's/80's vibe of this song, funky/disco. And the first time I read the lyric, some years ago, I was amazed by the pluto metaphore they used ! BTs is truly like no other group in the world !
Glad you liked the song. One of my favourite bside. Its about pluto no doubt. They mention Eric, the reason pluto lost its status as planet. They also mention the cold heart of pluto mentioning the temp of 200+° c which is the temp on pluto.
The way they used Pluto losing its planetary status as a metaphor for being rejected by someone you still love is genius. I was, and still am, a bit of a science/astronomy nerd and I remember feeling weird when they told us Pluto wasn't a planet. It's a rock rotating around the sun about 3 billion miles from us. Why is this giving me feelings? Needless to say, I fell in LOVE with 134340 the first time I listened to it and I'm still weirdly having feelings about that lump of ice and glad someone else was thinking about it enough to write a song about it.🤣
this is one of those songs wich you don't know what member did it better. All of them shine here. But I personally love Tae's beginning, also Rm and Suga raps, especially Suga's deep voice and how he interacts with that woman's voice who's supposedly his ex. Beautiful track 💕
This is the song that make me fall for BTS so hard. Like... How genius and talented this boys, make science into metaphor of relationship, the music is so jazzy and romantic, the lyrics feel so mellow. And still, the number in title and lyrics are real knowledge to learn... I don't even know how to describe it. But you know their song always have the best ingredient and they mix it in the sophisticated way 🥰💜
This song and Whalien 52 made my nerd heart so happy!! Yes, I stil think of 13430 as Pluto. When I first say just the title to this song, I don't know how I knew it, but I thought, Pluto? And yep, I was right. And I love both songs.
Yes, Pluto is still a planet for me. Thanks for this reaction, John. The guys were all excellent and respect to their songwriting. Just like Pluto was demoted from planet to asteroid yet still revolves around the sun, the jilted person goes from lover to something less yet is still in the orbit of the loved one. BTS does not have mediocre songs.
Haters saying they're not rappers or real artists; they don't belong. Them responding that no matter what people call them, they can't escape the gravity of music. So they will continue to be a part of this galaxy. Just like Pluto.
Yes, I love 134340!!! Honestly all the songs off Love Yourself: Tear are my favorites! Love Maze is another song that has a similar vibe as this one. P.s, my born planet was Pluto before they change it.
It wasn’t just Jin’s and J-Hope’s parts that stood out…each of Jin, V AND Jimin sang the same phrase in a back-and-forth with each of the rappers and each time it sounded equally beautiful - haunting actually.
As being Myself a Physics , Astronomy, Cosmology and Astrophysics Lover, i really love 134340 BTS , the way they beautifully connected the Pluto's separation from considering it as a planet since it doesn't fulfill the criteria to be a planet, i love how rm connects the condition of love for a person and Pluto condition as same, music is so soothing and relaxing. 134340 is my all time favorite.
So glad you reacted to this one! I always feel a flashback to the disco era music with this one. I also really appreciate the word picture they painted.
As someone that once, very literally, sat at the feet of the man that discovered Pluto, I was a science nerd and he was giving a talk at my high school teachers house since he taught at the University near her and was trying to increase an interest in science, I take Pluto getting the boot really personally.
@@JohnReavesLive it completely is! After he told the stories about finding it, which included a bear coming through the window while he was taking the photos on the plates, I just get so upset that they just decided to kick it out without know about it’s active geology or anything else really about it at the time
I love this song, the metaphorical use of Pluto's situation 💓. BTS lyrics are so fun to dive into, and on top of that the music itself is so captivating.
I feel like if you get defensive about whether Pluto is or isn't a planet. Then you're a millennial. We went THROUGH that. Give us Pluto back! hahahah. I love this song.
In 2019 I visited the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff from where Pluto was first discovered. I didn't know BTS then but found them about 8 months later. Still it was amazing to be somewhere where such a discovery was made. This song has a really cool vibe. The rap line vocals are incredibly good and as usual written by them. The vocal line are at their absolute best and it always gives me a thrill to be able to discern which one of them is singing which lines. 134340 doesn't actually drip off the tongue so poor Pluto will struggle to be remembered in the future. BTS, on the other hand will long be remembered. Thanks, John, for including RM talking about how the song was written.
This is one of my favorite BTS songs. It’s such a departure from what they’ve done before. Again, though, there is this up tempo tune & the lyrics are so sad: I’ve been erased from your life, but you are still the center of mine, and I can’t stop myself from circling around you, though I’m reduced to a mere number like so many others. RM really is a genius & on another level when it comes to lyrics.
It’s one of my favorite b side songs of BTS. The melody is very interesting and the lyrics are top tier for me. I like your reaction. You always have a positive energy, thank you. 💜💜💜
Jin said in an interview that JK did to him that he has never felt comfortable singing any BTS song because they always make the songs thinking of the the lower tone V's and the higher Jimin's and there he has to try to fit in and still he sounds amazing, this is nothing to do with the video but I miss Jin so much I didn't think it would affect me so much, I think these 9 years have made me addicted to Jin, it sounds ridiculous but that's how I feel, I miss his laugh, his little tics, his sense of humor, I know he is trying to do his best and the result is evident because he is now an instructor, He must have had a terrible time but he will never tell because he keeps all those things to himself,I just hope the weather changes soon in Korea and the cold goes away fast, ok I'll leave it here, thanks for the video, stay healthy and happy 💜
Yup missing Jin, his loving good-natured personality, his zany-ness, his unique singing voice & of cos, his world-wide handsome-ness. Take care stay safe 💜💜

Well, BTS is culture hehehe I knew Pluto wasn't considered a planet anymore, but I didn't know now it was just a number 😞 I think the song is about a broken relatioship where the part that still loves the other feels like Pluto, it means, not being anymore an important part of the other's universe, thing that frozes his/her heart...
I too grew up with Pluto as a planet, John. I still consider it a planet. Just because they foumd Eris and it was bigger shouldn't have changed Pluto's status. I mean, look at the other planets. Pluto was always smaller, so why change its designation just because found another? I will always consider Pluto a planet. Never a number. I do love how they used the status change as double. Comparing the change in status for Pluto to a very real relationship change. Simply beautiful.
I don’t think it’s literally about Pluto they’re just using it as a metaphor about a romantic relationship. It goes with the theme of the Love Yourself series and in this song was on Love Yourself Tear
I had a sweatshirt that said "RIP Pluto" - Revolve In Peace. This from an article in 2006 - "On Sept. 7, the former 9th planet was assigned the asteroid number 134340 by the Minor Planet Center (MPC), the official organization responsible for collecting data about asteroids and comets in our solar system."
OMG! 134340 is an underrated masterpiece! That line from RM "my cold heart is 248 degrees below freezing it stopped on the day you erased me, damn" -248 degress is the temperature in Pluto! Like I said, it's an incredibly meaningful piece with clever lyrics that illustrate the pain of loving someone who no longer reciprocates that love.
This is one of my absolute favourite BTS songs, Jimin’s voice gives me goosebumps in this 🙂
Samee it's one of my favs and not a lot of people knows about it unless they've been armys for some time
2SEOK 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Thank you for the reaction 💜
Same, 9 planets!!!! What’s horrible is now I work in education so I have to teach 8, I die a little inside every time!
bts disrography is diverse and amazing as always plus their lyricism is😭 i do love this song it feels so different but so so good
this is one of those songs wich you don't know what member did it better.
Pluto is a planet in my universe. Okay, this dates me but there's a bossa Nova vibe to the song.
What a great beautiful song. I love it. Jazzy, a little bossanova maybe. That chorus with Jimin and Jin! Wonderful lyrics.
I absolutely love this song. It is so easy to get in a great mood while listening. And the lyrics.....it's just why BTS are the coolest.
This is in my top 3 of BTS songs, love it so much! I like to listen to it in repeat 💜
I loooove this song so much!
Pluto is one of my top 10 bts favs songs. I really love it sooooo much💜
Haters saying they're not rappers or real artists; they don't belong. Them responding that no matter what people call them, they can't escape the gravity of music. So they will continue to be a part of this galaxy.
Just like Pluto.
I LOVE 134340 the writing is so good.
This is so good. Pluto as a jilted lover. Suga is Pluto who almost forgot her until he runs into her on the street a year later. 💔
One of my favorite songs and the first one I memorized in Korean. I love this song so so much!!!
This song, Moon and Mikrokosmos will be joining the crew of the next moon landing in 2024...along with the first female Astronaut to walk on the moon!
Cool
This one of my all time favorite OT7 songs
This is one of my favorite songs! I love every second of it 💜💜💜💜
I really like this song. it was quite the surprise when it began to play on the CD. it's very funky.
Jimin of bts will release new solo album (face) on March 24. A lot of people will be waiting for that day excitedly.
What a beautiful song: lyrics, beats, voices...
one of my favorite songs...everytime i hear it on my playlist i am like omg pluto song.the lyrics are so meaningful. i love it.
Yes, I love 134340!!! Honestly all the songs off Love Yourself: Tear are my favorites! Love Maze is another song that has a similar vibe as this one.
P.s, my born planet was Pluto before they change it.
Lyrics + Melody + Music 🔥🔥🔥💜
Love Love Love this song.
One of my favorite songs from BTS💜
Genius reaction
7💜! It's unique song! I love it very much 💜!
It wasn’t just Jin’s and J-Hope’s parts that stood out…each of Jin, V AND Jimin sang the same phrase in a back-and-forth with each of the rappers and each time it sounded equally beautiful - haunting actually.
Absolutely ❤
This song is, for me, in the same category of Whalien52 💜
As being Myself a Physics , Astronomy, Cosmology and Astrophysics Lover, i really love 134340 BTS , the way they beautifully connected the Pluto's separation from considering it as a planet since it doesn't fulfill the criteria to be a planet, i love how rm connects the condition of love for a person and Pluto condition as same, music is so soothing and relaxing. 134340 is my all time favorite.
I love this song.
Have you done BTS LOVE MAZE yet?
i also love this song, it's so calm and the lyrics are great too! thank u for the reaction 💜
ooohhhh how i love this song it's on my spotify list! tnx for reacting on this...love jiminisis voice...saranghae 💜💜💜
So glad you reacted to this one! I always feel a flashback to the disco era music with this one. I also really appreciate the word picture they painted.
Poetry.
The songwriting is genius.
and its headed to the MOON, Thanx NASA
One of my favorite song💜💜. Thank you for this reaction John. Looking forward for more videos 😁
As someone that once, very literally, sat at the feet of the man that discovered Pluto, I was a science nerd and he was giving a talk at my high school teachers house since he taught at the University near her and was trying to increase an interest in science, I take Pluto getting the boot really personally.
🙌🙌 for real I still consider it a planet! Have you seen the HD pictures of it?! Pluto is beautiful!
@@JohnReavesLive it completely is! After he told the stories about finding it, which included a bear coming through the window while he was taking the photos on the plates, I just get so upset that they just decided to kick it out without know about it’s active geology or anything else really about it at the time
Let’s all Stan Pluto 🙏🏼👏🤗🔥💜
Lol can we just!! 💜💜💜 Pluto!
one of my fav songs
Songwriters: Pdogg, ADORA, Bobby Chung, RM, Martin Luke Brown, Orla Gartland, Suga, J-Hope
I love all their songs and think they are even better live!!
I also still want to believe Pluto is a planet!
I love this song, the metaphorical use of Pluto's situation 💓. BTS lyrics are so fun to dive into, and on top of that the music itself is so captivating.
Love this song. Had to click immediately! The lyrics are so clever. Love the flute.
I feel like if you get defensive about whether Pluto is or isn't a planet. Then you're a millennial. We went THROUGH that. Give us Pluto back! hahahah. I love this song.
Yes, Pluto is a planet. I will never be convinced otherwise.
I love this song...and Pluto IS a PLANET to me!!!!
Jin 💜
Yup missing Jin, his loving good-natured personality, his zany-ness, his unique singing voice & of cos, his world-wide handsome-ness. Take care stay safe 💜💜

Yayyy 1st! This is in my top 3 BTS songs
I agree Pluto should have remained a planet. I grew up with 9 planets 😅 but to compare how Pluto to a relationship that’s going wrong is pure genius🔥
💜
get it jin!!!!
Well, BTS is culture hehehe I knew Pluto wasn't considered a planet anymore, but I didn't know now it was just a number 😞
I think the song is about a broken relatioship where the part that still loves the other feels like Pluto, it means, not being anymore an important part of the other's universe, thing that frozes his/her heart...
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank u for react to this song, i love this song soooo much, is amazing
The way V struts is killing me
One of my fav!
the song i play the most
Omg💜🥰👏🏼🇲🇽
a NYC vibe
Thanks.
