- The Martinsville Speedway is the longest continuously tenured track in all of NASCAR, it has been here since the start. The 2011 Martinsville fall race may be the wildest race from green to checkers that the track has ever hosted. Today we go back to 2011 and look at the most unhinged Martinsville race.

What is your pick for the most “unhinged” NASCAR race?
For me, as long as I lived, I feel that the Hail Melon one felt crazy and unbelievable, because of crazy that one was, and maybe possibly the 2015 Martinsville fall race, because of so much that went on, and feel there should be a deep rewind of that weekend.
idk 2022 Indy is really up there
Any Daytona 500 could be called unhinged, so I will go with the 2021 Daytona 500, because of McDowell Supremacy!
It’s either this or Phoenix trucks last year
2009 Xfinity Montreal
Ah, Fall Martinsville 2011. The day the extremely rare medical condition known as Vickernism was discovered.
A symptom of Vickernism may include unknowingly marrying a child sex trafficker for one of the worst pedos out there
Not so rare these days.
Yeah this was one of those times he forgot his meds 😂
I miss the old Race Hub, and Jimmy Spencer's segment in particular.
Brian Vickers is the most strangest and odd driver of the 2000’s. One random chase appearance. 3 out of no where wins. Random spats and fights. Heart problems in 2015 that made him miss most of the season. Wife being involved with Epstein and never hearing a word about him since. To me everything about him is just very weird and strange
Jimmy Spencer was right to warn everyone about Vickernism.
Some say that Vickernism still exists to this day, and not just from the driver that Jimmy Spencer named the unhinged condition after.
“Five incidents in just one race Steve! Isn’t it awful!?”
Carson Hocevar had it for the last 2 years lol
“8th caution of the day and Ware has been in 3 of them”
I love how they said 18 cautions and Brian Vickers was involved in about half of them LOL
Tony Stewart's Average Finish in the 3 Martinsville Races prior to this event: 28th
Fun Fact: The 1st Trailer for GTA V was uploaded 3 days after this race
Cool fact
I did NOT remember that 20 ran an Interstate Batteries paint scheme...and its BEAUTIFUL 😍
And now it’s running that same sponser again due to KFB being at RCR
@@RacingF8nactually all four Joe Gibbs cars run an interstate batteries scheme every once in a while and they've been doing that for years even when Kyle was still there. 😑
Poor! Jamie
One of Jeff Gordon's downfalls was the fact that yellow flags would plague the modern era compared to his golden era. Gordon thrived under long green flag runs and knew how to save tires better than the rest of the field, but the high frequency of cautions would not suit his driving style. He truly was a driver of the times and the current system of breeding cautions would unwind much further success.
9:43 TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT HE DID
“I have never seen anything like that in my life-“
“He just pulled a video game move!”
the 83 looked like a beat up late model at your local dirt track
We don’t have local dirt tracks in north Florida 😞
What I always remembered about this race is that Tony ran horrible all day and was lapped or nearly lapped. Then somehow fixed the car and drove to the front.
The day Vickernism was born
It sometimes astounds me Vickers had a ride as long as he did.
A good title would be The Day Brian Vickers pissed off the field
This and Martinsiville 2015 were both pretty memorable
Matt Kensith became a national treasure on this day ❤
The most unhinged nascar race is the 2007 Memphis Busch race-25 cautions and a race that lasted a little over 3 and a half hours. I don’t think any NASCAR Xfinity Series race since then has ever had more than 20 cautions alone and lasted as long as this race. That year’s eventual series champion Carl Edwards had a rough outing that race and had to wait until the following week at Texas to wrap up the Busch title and David Reutimann racked up his only win in that series.
Ah, the Vickers race.
Man I miss late post wing COT and Gen 6 NASCAR...and I really miss Gen 4 cars even more.
I always forget Allmendinger was in 43
And Michael McDowell used to drive the 98
Brian Vickers vs the field
Start of that last championship year!! Smoke just muscled his way around JJ on that restart!!
The good ol' Brian Vickers 500. Kinda hard to forget this one
I find it funny how I was watching the vickerism clip today
Finally somebody talks about how great this race was
This and 2017 we’re unhinged at its fullest
I forgot about this race and I think if I remember correctly I wondered why Nascar hadn't parked Vickers after his 3rd or 4th run in with someone that day
Meanwhile on other side of the world earlier on the same day, F1 was having their first ever race in India (a race that almost didn't happen due to the teams refusing to have a portion of their race winnings taxed by the Indian government & the Indian government rejecting the visa applications of a few drivers & crew members including Nico Rosberg). As for the race itself, it was dominated by Sebastian Vettel who led from start to finish with the only major incident being a collision between Lewis Hamilton & Felipe Massa that resulted in a drive thru penalty for Massa. This was the 4th time that season that they collided while trying to pass each other.
This was two weeks after Dan Wheldon died.
I think one of the memorable moments in the 2011 season in my opinion was in the 2011 daytona 500 when the cast of transformers gave the command to start the race as well as the alternate forms of the wreckers participating in the parade lap.
Vickers was a weapon and menace that day
The Vickernism Race!
At what point do you just park the guy. After McMurray is he really even racing?
I feel like if Matt Kenseth of all people decides to spin you out for being a jackass, you probably need to take a minute to self-reflect lol
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Jamie McMurray mad at anybody other than this incident with Vickers
While Martinsville itself was an unhinged race. That whole championship chase was wild, The fact that Tony had 5 wins that season to win the championship on its own. It's crazy but to think those five came in the last ten races
Brian vickers must’ve felt like he was in a video game with the amount of restarts this guy got after wiping out 😂
Man, it’s kinda wild that 2011 was my first season watching NASCAR. Never had watched a single race prior to my dad getting tickets for New Hampshire that year on a whim. Saw my first race in person there and was hooked from there on. This Martinsville race absolutely was part of the reason I’m still watching today. It’s also funny cause Vickers ended up winning at NH a few years later cause Tony ran out of fuel. 😂
I knew as a kid after watching that victory lane interview that Smoke wasn’t losing that title
As a kenseth fan all my life I am reminded everytime you make one of these videos of my pain
The first of two straight Martinsville races where Hendrick Motorsports was robbed of their 200th win.
Vickers drives like he has wings
I had never noticed before but it looks like Logano rode the wall through turns 3 and 4, albeit unintentional lol
I noticed that too, I said (as watching this) he's taking the Chastain line!
Nobody can change my mind about how a complete joke Brian Vickers career was.
Agreed
When Vickers brought out that yellow with 8 to go, to say I was livid would be putting it lightly. I knew then and there that Jimmie would be screwed and then of course everyone but the 48 pitted. Another gutpunch of a loss.
Dude what made the short track racing so much better then? Horsepower right? Why the hell don’t they give more then. Maybe I’m wrong.
Horsepower, shitty brakes and no grip...everything that is the opposite of the Gen 7 car.
10:19 mindset off champion
Vickers racing like me at Martinsville in every NASCAR video game ever.
Martinsville 2015 was so insane
Vickernism!!!!
I love smoke
Martinsville is my favorite track on the schedule. NASCAR needed to park Vickers after the fourth time he caused a caution.
A shoutout to 71 car looks rare
Most unhinged and thus GOATed NASCAR Martinsville race was 2021 spring
i'd give anything to have this era of nascar back to be completely honest. could just be nostalgia because i was 11 during this race, but i miss late 00s-mid 10s nascar so much. i kinda stopped watching in 2017/2018, and its been rough trying to get back into the habit of watching the races every week between me not liking the next gen car and nascar's gimmicks
Ah yes. The race where “Vickernism” was born.
Most unhinged? 87 spring Dega. Last time we ever saw a superspeedway unrestricted, Bobby Allison became a helicopter
idk if anyone else feels the same but man those cars seem like they accelerate so much faster out of the corner than they do now.
Looking like a jumped restart there at the 4:00 mark. 👀
This right here is the whole reason why I hate Brian Vickers to this day 😂
This to me will always be Tony Stewart's best win. First, Homestead only happened because this happened first. I can't think of any other Tony Stewart win where he was junk for half of it, raced his ass off to avoid going a lap down (he usually always just lets them go). He keeps the lap. They improve the car. He uses some strategy but still has the speed and makes the outside work on the restart against Johnson. Literally, no other Tony Stewart win at the races halfway mark would've looked less likely than this one here. Homestead is an extremely close 2nd for me but the speed he had there was clear from the drop of the green whereas at Martinsville it was not.
Something must’ve happened to Brian Vikkers after he took out Tony Stewart at Sonoma. This race and Phoenix probably should’ve gotton him suspended
I was an avid Kenseth fan, and after that run-in with Vickers, I believe I threatened to castrate Vickers. And my dad, who HATES NASCAR, got mad when I got excited and started swearing at Vickers after he took Kenseth out. Sorry dad, golf is never this exciting!
Vickernism at its finest
These were the days!
To not remember the outcome, see Smoke take the W, then (my new driver Ross) do the hail melon..wow man. A throwback and chills for sure ! fuck.
Chefs kiss to Allen Bestwick
Brian Vickers...the NASCAR China hall of famer.
Honorable mention: 2023 Truck championship finish
To be Honest, This was Racin’ The Way It Ought’a Be at Martinsville In My Opinion at Most Parts! 😁👍
The Baby Park of NASCAR
Rando: I don't get why people like NASCAR
Me: watch the races mentioned in these comments
Just vickers being vickers.
When the cars had power and lifted the nose 😅
Still the best race ive been to. Second being the 2022 coke 600
9:44 Logano pulling a Chastain move?
And then Vickers caused another pointless accident the next week at Texas and then the week afterwards against Kenseth at Phoenix
Alan bestwick should still be calling nascar races
Vickerism
Gawd I miss these cars n race back then. So, Brian..... Smh he definitely looked unhinged in this race, I don't know wth was wrong with him that day.
You could just see by watching it the horsepower they had. Hello NASCAR.. more horsepower=better racing
How much HP did the cars have in this season?
At least 800
@@polycube868 Thanks
900
Hail Melon
Brian vickers ruined matt title hopes
Brian Vickers is a bad person, on and off the track.
If this race didn’t make you dislike Vickers, finding out who his wife is definitely did the trick.
Hello
brian vickers was mid at best
There was no reason why Vickers shouldn't have been parked after he wrecked McMurray. The officials actually watched a guy cause 3 wrecks in a 60 lap span and didn't do anything. NASCAR's officiating is garbage and always has been.
Thank you Jesus for not letting Johnson win 🙏

@@finleyjeanbatiste5197 Thank you Jesus for not letting Johnson win 🙏
@@camdog2520 7 rings 💍 better than your favorite driver
@@finleyjeanbatiste5197 oh no the little Johnson fan brings out the 7 championships.(Not like there’s two other drivers to do it 😱😱😱😱)
@@camdog2520 just telling the truth
That showed just how much of a bust Brian Vickers was. Never was a fan of him due to his chicken shit move at 2006 Fall Talladega race. Brian Vickers is the epitome of the marketing driver always got press because of sponsorship but in turn couldn’t be successful. Another driver in this category is David Ragan
He won 3 cup races not exactly a bust
David Ragan wasn't a bust either
@polycube868 13th in 2008, had potential at the time
@Dupontman627 problem was Roush and Ford were junk most of 2009 except for Kenseth winning the rain shortened Daytona 500 and Fontana. I agree he had potential, Darrell Waltrip definitely thought so and was waiting for him breakout year.
The truck series race when Kyle Bush wrecked Ron Hornaday during a caution should be up near the top in the category of "unhinged races." It was tough being a K.B. fan that day. 🥲
I was at that race, and I had a friend who lived in Michigan at the time fly in for the Texas race weekend and he was an avid Kyle Busch fan. Let's just say that race pretty much ruined his trip
@nascarsteve Another thing that has made it tough to be a K. B. fan... a compilation of his rantings and ravings from behind the wheel of his vehicles. 🤔 But, I've been with him from start to end and I make no apologies! 🙂
This was still for the fake chase championship
I always forget how easy it is to hate Tony Stewart
