Agreed.. and I think wikipedia explains why they are the best hydro system. " The main advantage of the NFT system over other forms of hydroponics is that the plant roots are exposed to adequate supplies of water, oxygen, and nutrients."
I actually owned an original GT424 back in the 90's. It was a slightly different design then (It's been improved.) My old one was the fibre glass one with the old ribbed type plant tray.
Unless you have a few grand to blow on a top end Alien deep water culture system this is the system to have! I first did hydro 20+ years ago with these when you would get the little 2 part plant feeds with it and since then I've tried every new gimmick system that has come on the market and none have come close. No mess, plants thrive in these systems in veg and bloom and finished produce is so superior to any soil crops in taste, yield and appearance. Waste is minimal, just a root mat and a bit of rockwool to dispose of. Best of all is the price of these systems, far cheaper than most other hydroponic systems out there. If I was to have to find a drawback I could only say that waterchanges can be a bit of a nuicance with the larger tanks in the last few weeks of a plants cycle if you are wanting to give the resovoir a scrub out. Draining it, lifting the top tray with big trees which are entwined in netting, sliding out the resovoir whilst supporting the top tray is a fiddly job. It is not hard to make a couple of wooden supports or use some blocks though. Don't bother with any other systems unless you have big bucks to spend!
I don't use rockwool anymore in my NFT system I use pool noodles with the hollow centre. I germinate the seeds in coco coir and once they develop the first set of leaves I gently pull them out and place them in the hole of the pool noodle. I'm not a fan of rockwool since you have to wait for the plant to be root bound before putting it in the system and not to mention rockwool does not decompose.
I wouldn't put any more than 4 plants in a GT424 Especially if I hadn't grown that plant in a NFT before. I say that because I know how fast some plants can grow in these systems. Anymore than 4 it will start getting over too crowded.
We called them Turbo Tanks in the 90s best hydro system I've ever used super easy and great yields no problems

Do you scrog in DWC or sog ? I used to sog in NFT, but I'm thinking of scrog in the new alien DWC the venturi valve system one

Why is it that all videos regarding NFT systems have terrible audio? This video is from 2019 yet it looks like a VHS rip from 1993.

5 plants is way to many. Not to mention humidity overkill
Hated the background music - turned off
Robin Winterton - agree its irritating and distracting.
