    Part 5: Shooting for Accuracy with the Mini-14
    Thanks for tuning in! Lots more coming. I would appreciate your subscription as I hope to improve the level of content as the channel grows.
    Correction Section:
    Mini 14: Technical Specs:
    - Calibre: .223
    - Operating: Fixed Piston
    - Modes of fire: Semi auto only
    - Magazine Capacity: 5, 20, 30 (only 5 in Canada due to restrictive magazine limit laws)
    - Sights: iron sights
    - Barrel Length: 18.5"
    - Barrel Twist: 1:9" RH
    - Overall Length min/max:
    - Weight: 6lbs 6oz with 13" barrel
    - Muzzle Device: Flash Hider (pinned on)
    The Ruger Mini-14 is classed based on barrel length in Canada. With a 18.5"+ barrel it is in the non-restricted category and legal to possess with a PAL (possession & acquisition license). The Hk UMP9 bonus gun is classed the same, and is therefore considered 'restricted' based on its short barrel. It requires a RPAL to possess.

    You might want to check your manual. My series 181 is stamped 223 on the receiver but the manual specifically states it is safe to use 556 ammo. Good video, thanks.

    • @Hunne2303
      @Hunne2303 2 года назад

      .223 = ~55000 psi, 5.56 = ~58000 psi or in lamen terms: 5.2% more oomph for the 5.56...not really worth it imho
      the .223 also has a thighter barrel fit and a lighter bullet...using 5.56 in a .223 barrel is possible but the ballistics will vary a bit, more so vice versa
      unless you really have to use 5.56, I´d always go for the .223

    I don't know if it can be considered a nerd thing, but the stocks are my favorite things about these guns, but the whole thing itself is really great
    Great choice for the 9mm UMP too man!

    At the 1:49 mark be advised: Mini 14 has a Wylde chambering it will accommodate .223 or 5.56. The exception is the 'Target Model' which is spec. at .223 only. Check the Ruger website for details.

    • @WBatte1
      @WBatte1 3 года назад +3

      Not technically a Wylde chamber. It predates the introduction of the Wylde chamber 30 odd years. But all Mini 14 rifles marked for .223 Remington can safely fire 5.56 NATO cartridges, with the exception of the previously mentioned target model. For a long time the early 180 series rifles were not officially rated for the 5.56mm. This is because the original rifles were never proofed with 5.56 NATO. They were proofed in 1976 because Ruger was really hoping for government and military contracts. This is when the 5.56 was added in the factory instructions, but Ruger felt that it would not be enough of a selling point to mark the rifles in the 5.56 designation. Technically speaking you can't legally certify a rifle built in 1974 for a cartridge an identical rifle was certified for in 1976 . But somewhere around 2010 Ruger dropped it's official exclusion of early 180 series rifles from firing 5.56mm .

    Great video man! That's the GB model? I actually just aquired one of these. I just have a question is the field strip the same even if it's select fire? Mine has semi 3 burst and auto. Any extra steps to take?

    • @WBatte1
      @WBatte1 3 года назад

      That's actually a Civilian barrel pre 1989 ban model. There was a ban in 1989 that was largely overwritten by the Clinton Eara assault weapon ban and crime bill. This is what saw the end of the Ruger folding stock and flash hiders on Civilian guns. The GB stands for Government Barrel or maybe Government Bayonet. The GB model has a abbreviated flash hider block, because there is no sight blade incorporated with iit.The the sight block on a GB mounts the barrel about 5" rear of the flash hider. and incorporates a bayonet lug. The sight blade is protected by a wing on either side unlike the civilian guns with one large sight blade and no protection.

      no, not exactly...whatever that is under the barrel, it needs to be gone if I am not mistaken and the heatshield has to be silver to be Hannibals rifle and needs a lot more holes in it...this here would be Facemans´ variant with the black top minus the muzzlebrake
      I got Murdocks variant I guess...with a wooden top with no muzzlebrake at all ;),
      the series shows a different muzzlebrake aswell for all variants compared to the one shown here...similar but not quite original
