Their brass is so heavily underrated, I saw them in San Antonio and my god, did those trombones just hit me with their sound, and the Radiohead part was so fantastic live.
I waited 40 years to hear a corps do The Rite of Spring, and I was blown away when I saw this in Sacramento. They nailed it! I love BK because they frequently present experimental and outside music, and do it with tremendous style and execution, without a ton of positive feedback from the audience. That takes serious will and dedication.
Damn. Seeing this live was phenomenal. A lot of people think that this show doesn't fit in with the rest of the 2014-2019 era, but I really feel it does. It has that same mystical touch to the music writing. The low brass was so husky and full that night. Definitely not a show I'll forget.
drumcorps0junkie Good question. Their execution has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade or so, to the point where alongside Boston I think they’re the most improved corps of the last few years (Academy and Mandarins also deserve a nod there). IMO they really need some fresh, innovative show concepts to help them stand out like Bloo has been able to do since 2014. I mean, how many times have we heard Rite of Spring in DCI? The competition in the top 6-7 is so fierce these days that excellent playing almost goes without saying; more creativity and unique repertoire leading to a big GE score are what I think they need to capture a title. Still really enjoyed this show though.
@@chaoshuffer What's truly amazing is you're talking about execution. Let's be honest. That's the only thing you're taught. Myopic drum corp alumnae and current marchers have been hypnotized to watch for only one thing. Execution. That's the only thing you're confident to talk about. Execution. Execution. Execution. Well, let me tell you, their low score has little to do with execution. They consistently lose because of their show concept. This year they promised us a show about Ra the Sun God. Where is he? Where's the serpent that tips Ra's sun boat, imperiling the universe? The epic battle between the serpent and Ra's sun boat? Come on. Let's see some action! A fucking huge serpent attacking a fucking boat, it tips over and the sun might not rise tomorrow!? Fuck! And all you give us little pyramids? Um. The Blue Knights need to step up with some high stakes imagery. They've cornered the market on uniqueness, great. But as soon as they up the ante with suspense, universality, cohesion, authenticity and high stakes emotion, they're number one.
Man, I remember two years ago, my freshman year... This DCI group used my High School's field to practice on for a competition that would occur nearby later that night. We got an opportunity to listen to them practice, and I just absolutely hated how ugly it sounded to me at first. The only saving grace for me was the ballad back then. And here I am, 2 years later, watching the entire show, and enjoying all of the ugliness. I wish I wasn't so hard on this show in 2018.
This show really is impressive! Listen to that brass!

Yeah I thought that was Radiohead. Isn’t the song called “exit music”?
The mello book did it for me. Saw it in Denton and San Antonio, and the mello run during Exit Music just sent me over the edge.

I’m not the only one who actually likes the show music, right?
How can you not? It's The Rite of Spring
TheBANDit it’s fun remembering how when this first came out a few hundred years ago everyone threw a riot outside because of how suggestive it was.
@@DisDatK9 The Riot of Spring
Mustang high school used rite of spring in their 2015 show, this took me back man
I was just thinking how the fuck could you march Rite of Spring, so I looked it up, and it’s been done, damn good
I wonder when this corps will earn a championship?

Anyone else see the trombone with the blue shorts at 7:00 look down and pick something up? He will be 2 steps inside the 45 on side one.
MUDDKING mouthpiece probably came out
My shoelace got caught on my water key... Was the first time it had happened too.
@@abartlett7350 I have been there. Good o'le Bone problems.
Once during a performance the water key went *through* my shoelace so just bending over didn't fix it
BK NATION

@@joemalone5330 they're using clear stick tape.

First three notes I think
rip madison video
THE STING 9:58
No Madison Scouts??
can someone explain the static noise that is in the beginning and scattered throughout the show?
Colton Simmons Auditory aesthetic lol
It's "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles, backwards and run through processing
What do you use to mount the go pros?
Was Matt center this year or was it Zach?
Harish Prabhakaran Matt was
@@thumper303 really? I heard Zach was
Matt Gomez is center :-)
I personally know one of the pit members.
But imo they need better music
Its rite of spring my dude
The music is the best aspect of the show
It's such and unnecessary ugly sounding show. It kinda takes away from the talent this group has
At first glance, all art seems ugly and confusing...
Have you heard the rite of spring?
That's the point, my friend
