Amazing Before & After VFX Breakdown: "Terminator: Genisys"

Terminator Genisys may not be the best terminator film, but if you forget about the plot and concentrate on the VFX its not all that bad! DNEG supplied the majority of VFX for this project, producing nearly 900 shots with a crew of up to 500 people.

T3000
The design for the T3000 was to create the perfect soldier based on John Conner, balancing strength and versatility by following the Mantra "form follows Function".
The T3000 was built as a complete CG model, knowing that it had to be capable of doing virtually anything, it had to be directable, complex, but efficient. the concept was basically a living being made up from half a billion hairs each capable of acting alone or in unison.
T1000
They tried to keep the original look and feel of the T1000 from the original in Terminator 2, only having to "update" it in certain scenes. As the T1000 is chrome, the team concentrated on reflections, using a red camera with a 6mm fish eye lens to obtain them. they also added scratches, dents, and discoloration to the chrome of the T1000 because imperfections are what makes things look real.
MPC
MPC worked on numerous Vfx for the movie but perhaps the most notable are the animation of the T800 endoskeletons and its work digitally recreated Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1984.
A full CG model of Arnold's face was created based on stock footage from 1984, they then used a body double and added Arnold's head along with endoskeleton in post.
A massive task, that to be honest, doesn't look great in every shot. but in the one's it does, its a masterpiece!

I enjoyed this movie, some action scenes jump the shark a bit but it’s miles better than some others in the series, has a pretty solid plot, and some clever ideas, it’s at least a 7/10.
It really is the worst in the series. Everything is bad after T2 but Genisys is just a joke.
@@Peer165 nah Salvation is the worst, it’s like Discovery with Terminators, and T3 tho it’s a god awful comedy, at least has some good action scenes and stunts in it.

Well mutiple software. It's not all done in one software but in multiple ones based on what they need to do.

I actually liked this film though I wish they didn't give away Connor being the villain in the trailers. Dark Fate is the only Terminator film in the entire franchise I didn't enjoy. T3, Salvation, and Genisys were entertaining at least even if it got lots of flak from die hard fans.
I share the same opinion. Even with some flaws, all the films are enjoyable. DF is not canon for me. It's just a bad joke.
I’m big fan . Don’t mind any of the movies . Just know first two best . All have some entertainment value IMO . Never understand haters . Yea , could have been better , but they’re reet !

Guys, Terminator Dark Fate, was generally good and serviceable. The films between T2 and Dark Fate gradually corroded/downgraded the franchise.
Salvation and TSCC were really good and T3 wasn’t completely bad.
Practical effect are more convincing
What is it with you people crying over the use of cgi effect in modern movies? Technology changes so does it's standard. Up your standard or die out like the rest.
Sure practical effect use in movie is a plus but doesn't required to look good.

@@frankcastle8349 No. The best of the past, might beat the worst of the present, but that doesn't mean it beats the best of the present.
Bad CGI is bad. Or going WAY over the top because CGI makes that possible.
There are tons and tons of examples where CGI looks way way way better than practical effects. The problem is, you only *notice* bad CGI and not the good CGI.
The same goes for noticing bad practical effects and not the good pratical effects.
A lof of stuff looks actually really bad and fake in T1 and T2 aswell. It's only being accepted or claimed to be good because of nostalgia and the movie itself being good.
Back in the day, the standards and expectations of viewers, were simply lower than they are now.
If you watch those movies (or other old movies) with an honest / unbiased minset, you will actually realize that often the practical effetcs look like crap.
An additional problem is, that in the past (just like now) tons and tons of films were produced. The handful of films that turned out to be the greatest of all time back then, are now being recycled in the hope they will have the same success, without putting "much" efford in them except better visuals and audio. This however, is simply not how things work.
It's the same with music. It seems like back in the days music was better, but the simple reality is that only the good music survived time.
Just like with movies from back then, only the good stuff survived. That doesn't mean movies (or how they made them) back then, were better.
even though this one is more advanced, special effects in terminator 2 just worked better.
I think genesys is the best to me

what I dont understand is why does T800 have a complex and advanced iron exoskeleton but human teeth?
For infiltration. The T-800s were designed to have human skin coated on them to blend in but it wouldn’t work if they had chrome metal teeth visible whenever they talked or opened their mouths.
After this one and then the huge disappointment of "Dark Fate", it's possible that we will never see another Terminator movie. This is a shame in a way because of the incredible amount of work that goes into these movies and all the talented people involved.
I agree. At least the comics still have some very good stuff to offer, and expand the franchise.

It's not the best Terminator movie for sure, but it's not the train wreck the people like to say. At least was respectful in many aspects to the canon, unlike DF (Damn Feces) did not kill the soul of the history like a stray dog, and didn't turn the Terminator into a housewife, everything to please the agenda.
Would be cool see more from the T800/T1000 hybrid.

Extremely overused liquid metal effects. It's becoming ridiculous. I can't believe James Cameron continued to use it in Dark Fate.

sad how T1 and T2 look far better then all this crap. once again this is why good practical effects blended with quality visual effects a far better way to go then tons of green screen and full meh CGI.
