I’m just starting to try to learn coding literally started yesterday. I have completed almost 75% of that course. I can safely say that I have learnt a lot from that course. One advice is, if you want to learn something in more detail, refer to other articles over the internet and make your fundamentals strong. That will help you in the long run for sure.

Why Software Engineering? I am surprised you never combined your education from Finance and your love for Python and landed a job in one of these other roles?

Secondly, how long does it take to complete this specific specialization? I'm asking because I really want to do this course, however you have to pay 50 USD monthly to subscribe to Coursera and I simply don't have that sort of cash lying around. If you dedicate around 4 hours per day maybe you could finish a course in 1 week. Specializations are several courses long so maybe you could finish a 6 o 8 courses long in 2 or 3 months... BUT WAIT!! The course that you are talking about "Python for Everybody Specialization" is from Charles Russell Severance, and this guy has a ton of free classes, he even has a webpage with I think all his clases from "coursera" so I recommend you to check that. The only thing is that in coursera there are exercises and tests that help you to consolidate some lessons. I hope this help you.

C and C++ are good for learning concepts but their learning curve is steep. You may enjoy it in the starting but as you progress you may find it difficult to write a complete program. This is my experience and may not be the same for you. I just shared how most beginners feel.
