It’s shocking how smart a immature asinine movie starring puppets can be. I love this movie!!
A lot of surprisingly smart humour, very witty
What you have there is satire, my friend. Comedy with commentary. Though there was definitely just some straight gag humor like the puking scene (Unless you consider that a parody of other movies that have similar "protagonist's lowest moment" scenes).
Edit: Trey Parker and Matt Stone have an understanding of comedy that goes into philosophical. These guys know their comedy how and especially WHY to write jokes. And they punch like a compass, they don't care who you are or what you believe in, everyone is fair game to have a joke written about them. Like in this movie, whether you were pro-America or pro-Hollywood or pro-this or -that, EVERYONE was the butt of the joke at some point.
“ what the hell am I watching right now” pretty much what everyone says the first time they watch this movie😂
It definitely took me by surprise 😂
I watched this in theatres and that was definitely my reaction back in 2004.
The film Pearl Harbour is the second biggest tragedy that ever happend to Pearl Harbour.
What happened to them worse than that movie, Mr.Bungle fan ?
@@tempsitch5632 The morgning of December 7th 1941 would be up there wouldn't you agree?
@@tempsitch5632 Mr. Bungle? Please tell me.
From the creators of South Park.
Trey and Matt said after this movie they’d never make anything with puppets or animals again.
And they never have.
Ahhh I was hoping there was a sequel!
@@kabirconsiders They said even though they were proud of how it turned out, it was the hardest and most complicated project they had ever done. When they were done they swore they would never attempt it again.
@@kabirconsiders the interview may be a spiritual successor, though that was a Seth Rogan movie and live action
They did go on to write the Book of Mormon after this. They also have a few other feature films in their catalogue - Cannibal: The Musical, Baseketball, and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
@@fad23 Orgasmo
Freedom isn't free, no there's a hefty f*ckin' fee" Haha love that line with the accent.
The way overdone country singer accent is the best
Freedom costs a Buck o five
This movie came out right in the middle of the Iraq War. As a former soldier who was there..this is MOSTLY accurate..Matt..Damon!
What made you want to serve? No judgements, just curious.
@@names_are_useless I have no idea what this means.
@@Fatherofheroesandheroines You said you were a former soldier. I assume you fought in Iraq? I was curious why you chose to enlist.
@@names_are_useless ohhh ok. Well, it's a family legacy that I decided to continue. Also, I wanted to serve my country; this was my chosen career.
The worst part about this movie is that Matt and Trey have said that it was such a nightmare doing this whole movie with puppets that they would never do it again so we will never get a sequel.
For anyone who grew up with American movies & television in the 70’s & 80’s, this movie is so awesome. It skewers every TV trope from that time.
I'd say it is skewering the Bay/Bruckheimer blockbusters of the late 90s/00s more. Quite explicitly in many parts.
Thunderbirds, Go!
Matt Damon totally blew me away in his role as Matt Damon! The way he transformed himself into that role really transformed me too!
Especially, his deep and meaningful monologues. Matt Damon rocks!
Truly one of the performances of all time.
Matt..DAMON
The musical “Lease” is a spoof of the actual famous musical, “Rent” which did discuss the AIDS epidemic in the 80s.
I was into Thunderbirds and Stingray as a kid so I watched this movie and it took a completely different turn. Absolutely hilarious though🤣
God thunderbirds, I'd forgot about that. I've just been hit by a memory of being taught how to make Tracey island on blue Peter 😂
I love how any time something is changes, it Valmorphanizes. Even Gary’s face.
AMERICA!FUCK YEAH!!!!😂
So damn catchy 😂
I am one of the few that watched it opening day in theaters blew my mind
Trivia note: The very 1st footage screened to Paramount executives was the opening scene of the film with the poorly constructed puppet being controlled by the more detailed puppet. 1 of the executives said "Oh God, they (Parker & Stone) f*****d us!" by essentially trolling the executives the quality of the puppets and set design for the film.
That’s a cool piece of movie trivia! Parker & Stone are definitely a ballsy pair
This is objectively the best movie of all time.
It’s the best time of all movies.
I love this movie (Coming from an Aussie too)
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it
Can't believe this movie is almost 20 years old.
one of the greatest dumb movies ever made, gotta love the south park guys
So many funny moments. That vomit scene 😂😂
Many things came together for this..a famous action movie DP and director signed on, the dialog is incredible, the tv, movie and theatre tropes that are skewered, the detail in the sets you have to rewatch and pause, the bricks in the street are croissants, the houses in N Korea are take out boxes, the foliage in Panama is all marijuana..this is a real classic already..
I actually snuck into the theater to see this movie as a teenager 🤣🤣🤣
“You are useress, Arec Bardwin!” 🤣
The hand to hand combat was done "stupid" on purpose. The puppet operators could actually make it look incredibly realistic, but the south park guys knew it wouldn't be as funny, as having them wobble around on each other...
Kabir, I have one for you! Right after this came out my husband and I just had to go see it. We had so many studio friends that we didn't have a choice, lol! Our landlord was replacing our A/C with the help of a friend. I heard a perfect line and voice from Team America, went outside and was introduced to one of the voiceovers! He kept it up and I had such a laugh!
Team America replaced my A/C! I loved it!
Where's my popcorn 🍿
This movie is amazingly funny
The claw hammer part with Gary gets me and every time 🤣
The best martial artist detroit has to offer. :D
This is the most entertaining documentary on American foreign policy I've seen yet.
I feel like the name Gary Johnston is a nod to Gerry Andersen, the guy who invented this type of puppet animation which is called supermarionation.
Do not watch Pearl Harbor. Our time on earth is short. It’s 19 hours you can never get back. Ok not 19 hours, but it feels like it
The AI voice is done by the legend Phil Hendrie, if you never heard his radio show, I suggest you listen, it's one of a kind, he is the host and provides the voice of the guests, he is as big of an instigator as Jerry Springer
Supposedly after getting behind on the schedule the first scenes Matt and Trey showed the Paramount executives was the crappy one of poorly drawn Parisian background and rough marionette at the beginning of the movie. This caused one of the execs to yell “Oh God! They fucked us!”
Of course the scene continues drawing the camera back to show the detailed backgrounds and marionettes.
I always laugh at the line, “you can’t blame yourself for what gorillas did.”
My favorite random easter egg in this is the giant gold statue during the "I'm So Ronery" song. It's a real person painted gold lol
F.A.G. = Film Actors Guild. A brilliant pun and moment of biting satire on actor's s belief in the own importance.
And the spew scene; fucking GOLD!!
Baseketball is worth a watch too.
*BASEketball
Pearl Harbor was a good movie..it was more of a love story than war flick, but it had an awesome cast and it's worth a watch or 2
Dodge even put out a commercial using this theme song. lol
Apart from the obvious American hero movies, this was heavily inspired by a British sci-fi adventure show from the 60's, called Thunderbirds.
Lol Kabir not realizing that Pearl Harbor isn't just a movie
This is an instant classic!!
Go Chiefs!
This movie happened a long time ago, but its relevant to craziness of today
When I was in college in the early 2000s Thunderbirds played on TV every evening when I got back from class. I think I saw every episode.
I love this movie. I saw this in the theater back in the day when it came out. My brother my friend and I all were laughing so hard our stomaches were hurting. Tho what was really funny was an older lady brought her grandkids to see it and she started flipping out at all the violence and language. Needless to say they didn't last more than 20 minutes into the movie. I don't know what she was thinking. The movie was rated R.
I've never seen TA:WP. Not gonna lie, I laughed way harder than I should have at the Rent parody, Lease
It’s funny no one comments on the fact that they wrapped a towel on Gary’s head like he’s a model getting out of the shower..or all the Star Wars references, etc
I have to confess, I almost did myself a mischief when I realised they were playing the cantina music, lol
I've been waiting for this reaction 😅🤣🤣🤣
This movie was funnier when seeing it in theaters in 2004. The hans blix joke goes over everyones head now but was extremely topical at the time. Still a hilarious movie though
I watched this before, can't believe he's reacting to this!
Yes, Pearl Harbor really is that bad. Don't bother with it. I will add my vote for "Tora! Tora! Tora!" It is very well done.
The main puppeteer and creator of this movie is a guy named Scott Land.
Film Actors Guild... f.a.g.
One of the funniest parts about this movie is, Team America destroying whole cities while trying to kill the terrorists.
In Transformers (07), Barricade (the police Salween Mustang) has a hologram that gives a vacant stare. The person portraying the hologram was in the military and gave that same stare while a couple of lower rank soldiers were singing this same theme song.
So much great stuff in Team America, but the scenes of the Gary puppet at the DC monuments are really funny to me just because it's so small but posed really dramatically.
There is a subtle joke that Gary is supposed to be a parody of Tom Cruise ("A real Top Gun actor!").
There are 2 good movies about the attack on Pearl Harbor. 1 is FROM HERE TO ETERNITY and 2 is TORA TORA TORA! They are closer to the feeling of the attack.
Maybe I'm alone here, but the vomit scene made me cry from laughter when I saw this in theaters. One of the funniest dumb comedy scenes I've ever seen. An actual human vomiting is gross, but a puppet? Comedy gold.
I wish they made sequels
The creators said they would never make a sequel because they nearly lost their minds making this movie!
This movie is ridiculously hilarious 😂
The best marionette movie ever. If you want live action Trey and Matt I suggest Cannibal. The musical
"No, no me gusta!!!!"
"Come on everybody, we've got quiltin' to do!"
"Where the children danced and laughed and played with gum drop smiles!"
"Surprise c*ck-f*gs!" His is an incredibly accurate depiction of a martial artist from Detroit
And then there is Kim Jong Il.
"Do you have any idea how busy I am!"
And of course, he's Ronrey.
Best reaction I’ve seen 😂😭Matt Damon‼️
The computer is voiced by Phil Hendrie a famous voice actor
This movie is awesome - here for the reaction, hope you enjoy!
Well, I was going to put some finishing touches on a commission, but it can wait a half-hour.
Oh you’re in for a treat with this one
Thanks for the laugh :) Peace!
You must see " The Interview " with Seth Rogan and James Franco !!! It's a masterpiece !!!
if you haven't seen basketball... give that one a go. has both the southpark guys in it play characters.
Type it as it’s titled, BASEketball, so he has a chance of finding it.
@@tempsitch5632 I gave it a college try lol
@@4theloveoflife i just imagine the millions of nba results in his search results him thinking, “wait, matt and trey played basketball?”
"Let's make a Bruckheimer movie, but with puppets!" That was the basic premise.
It days F.A.G. because they are representing the Film Actors Guild lol
It's Thunderbirds from the 60s.
So few people pick up on that.
Gary is the GOAT 🏆
As an American, I agree with this documentary on how terrorism was ended LMAO
Apparently people are no longer familiar with the hit Broadway musical "Lease" which featured a scaffold-based set and a lot of people dying from AIDS. The musical "Rent" is course totally unrelated.
The whole point of it being puppets is, similarly to how South Park is "2D animation... then we took a step backwards", this is "3D animation..." you get the point.
I love Mat & Trey
If you haven’t done Baseketball yet. Gotta do it.
I was Coop Cooper for last Halloween. One of the funniest movies eveah.
"I still need to watch Pearl Harbor." I mean, not really? I wish I could erase about 90% of it from my memory. The actual attack part is watchable, if historically nauseating. The attack is that 10%. That's right... 90% of the movie is other stuff.
There will not be a sequel. Matt and Trey thought that the idea of doing a puppet movie (a la the 1960s television show Thunderbirds) would be fun, but they had no idea how much work it would be. They had to put in 10 to 14 hour days, 7 days a week for 2 years to make this movie, and after they found out about the amount of work involved they swore that they will never do another one.
released on Pearl Harbor day...
Yes. It was made by Matt Strong and Trey Parker (creators of South Park)
This movie was awesome. Takes no prisoners. Made by the guys from Southpark.
As much as people hate on it, the best history teacher I ever had said at least certain moments of Pearl Harbor are extremely accurate.
People often suggest "Tora! Tora! Tora!" instead, as it portrays from the Japanese side, rather than treat the Japanese like the total bad guys.
Alas, people often take this movie too far by pointing out that, since Democrats are Pussies and Republicans are Assholes, that it takes "Dicks" in the form of the Libertarian Party (Trey Parker has often voted this way, and the multi-time candidate is literally named Gary Johnson).
On the celebrity front, while George Clooney and Matt Damon were excited to see how they were mocked, and Alec Baldwin even tried to play himself (he's played by "The Brain" actor Maurice LaMarche), Sean Penn reacted similarly to his caricature here - hence the recurring joke that Hollywood celebrities will contradict their own liberal beliefs when they see fit.
They swore they would never, ever make another marionet movie because it was so difficult. I think it's one of the funniest movies ever
One of my favorite movies and I'm American. It totally mocks American arrogance
Kabir, you are right.
This movie was made by the producers of South Park.
I highly recommend you watch and react to another hilarious movie made by them titled, Orgazmo.
Consider this homie!
When this came out I was a sophomore in highschool and wanted to see it so bad because I loved South Park, but my sister was like oh it's going to be stupid, you're going to hate it and I never saw it until like 3 years later, she was so wrong and that was one of the reasons why I don't let anyone tell me what to like and what not to lol.
Holy fk that’s lame
There are no sequels, the difficulty they had to do this movie with puppets decided that...
Yeah it is the South Park guys. I love this movie
Best movie ever made!
100 percent South Park guys did this. Tre and Matt
This movie is so genius as it makes fun of all sides perfectly from the hard liberals who think anything America does is evil to the ultra conservative who can't give two shits about the countries being bombed.
This movie perfectly encapsulates the extremes of both sides post Iraq invasion and shows that the truth is somewhere in the middle, that speech at the end is silly but sums it all up.
America fucks up a lot but we are the only ones that can fuck up the people that need it.
Sean Penn did not like how Trey Parker and Matt Stone portrayed him in this film. He was very, very angry with them. And he wrote them a letter telling them how angry he was.
Baka baka gihad. Ah dirka dirka. America f**k yea.
Pure gibberish 😂
Love the translation!
22:24 Beyond comprehension.
Classic 😂
at 28:22 it may as well be present day..
The BBFC content advice for this film states that it "contains strong language, violence and sex, all involving puppets". (It's rated 15.)
Lol... the only thing I remember about the American content warning was "gratuitous sex involving puppets." Lol
Please, PLEASE, react to America: The Motion Picture by Netflix.
you should watch South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut
