I love rbs and jzs, im running a jzx110, and maintenance is so simple compared to new cars...except i lean more towards JZ, as the crossover inlet is kinda annoying 😅.
I think aftermarket is ok, given it came from a reputable supplier.

Tracking down causes for misfire can suck especially if it’s not the basic coil or spark plug fixes

Yeah understanding what wires and cables go where helps. That's why when i mess with any new engines i am not familiar with i always take pictures and use blue tape labeled. 😂

Blue tape definitely helps, that’s what I do when pulling motors
