It was an insane chapter of my life. Went to welding school. Lost my career. Got a new career in wildlife photography. I'd love to come back to minecraft if the itch ever get's scratched that hard like it did again. :D I still consider this project one of the most fun things I've ever participated in.
Imagine being some guy in Washington State and finding out that a digital recreation of your shed on a video game is causing drama rifts in an online community
To the builders of North Carolina and Virginia, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of you my grandfathers house has been immortalized in Minecraft which will keep him alive forever. You are amazing people.
I've been a part of this community since August 2022. I'm happy to see you prioritizing your mental health over this project and I look forward to what you'll show us next!
Honestly Hawaii being just Waikiki cause no one who lived there was in the server feels like a surprisingly salient accidental critique of the tourism industry.
One thing I'd like to add about reconsidering is that having a constant willingness to reconsider everything is not always a good thing. There are infinite amount of experiences and perspectives and constantly reconsidering your views based on the rest can put you in a state in which you'll have trouble from recognizing right from wrong and become fragmented. Keep an open mind but also stand by what you believe and think.
Dude I checked the disc like last month and was surprised that it was done. When I watched the first video I was 14 back in 2020 and now I’m in college time really just flew by.
I've been a builder since september 2024 only and I've been shipping away at parts of my city, Lausanne in Switzerland, and it's a great honour to finally be active in the community. Pippen, you've paved the way for so many players to benefit from a fantastic project and have fun with it. Your idea has now matured into a working system that can hopefully go on for an infinite amount of time. And for that I thank you for all you've done. I'll be here for your next adventures.
You’re an awesome person, and I mean that literally. despite all your troubles in the last four years, that struggle gave you the ability to grow in ways most people will never be able to, and for that I think you should give yourself some credit. Have an equally amazing life, really.
Dawwwwwwggggggggg I remembered the first video from four years ago and the concept seemed like it was too big to ever finish. Crazy to think yall got it done, great work.
You have more resilience than anyone I’ve ever met irl. Maybe fueled by stubbornness, but I know you can fuel it with something else now that you’ve seen the error of your ways. Thank you.
The fact that all of this was done in just four years is mind blowing. You did really good for a one man. I hope that will find a way to enjoy yourself again. Best of luck, mate!
I remember seeing the original announcement for building the earth 1:1 when I was still in secondary school, and now I'm about to go to uni and continue studying. I didn't watch every single video in this series, but I would come back every now and then to check on the progress of the project. Even from early on, I remember watching a few videos regarding the project and how you and your team suffered from a lot of disagreements and general commotion. I cannot stress enough seeing you as the sole leader of this project, I believe that you should definitely have been more prepared to understand the magnitude of something like this, alongside pumping out videos detailing the progress of the project. And in some cases, you just had to bite the bullet and potentially make compromises. I think if the overall project was put on a different system of management, it would have been more efficient and streamlined, such as putting certain locations on a poll to see what the team should build next. Regardless of all of that, this is perhaps the most impressive project that I may have ever seen in minecraft or in video game history in general. I hope that IF you ever decide to tackle another project as big as this one, you learn to make sure prioritising burnout and workflow. Amazing work.
Its remarkable how far you brought this project, huge respect for sticking through it this long. Best of luck in whatever you do next! Was also neat to see my name in the credits lol
I remember watching the first video when it came out, unreal to think how much has been done since then, and how much is still left. Huge props for starting this and for sticking it out as long as you have
It may have been 4 years, but BuildTheEarth is only getting started. In the next few years, with the advancement of technologies, building the whole world in Minecraft will only accelerate.
@ It’s over for him, doesn’t mean others can’t take over and have the knowledge to make things faster. BTE is still very active without him and I do hope he gets well after leaving it behind.
A few weeks back, I created a new real, world with some friends and the map was Earth, with an animal mod and correct biomes. We each claimed a country and have started villager societies and expanded territory. No cities, (yet) any wilderness on the map, so it was up to us to build. I hope one day comptuers will be strong enough so this project can be completed, I can install the map on bedrock, and do the same thing on a bigger scale!
-Almost three years ago, I never imagined that I would see the end of this project anytime soon. I always thought it would take at least 10 years. I never imagined it would come so soon that I would be the first person to like and watch the video.-
Time really flies. From jacckt24 to CF0741, I've been building from Monaco to Seattle10000. Left with anger, broke down mentally over studies, left my hometown to the UK, and now I'm getting closer to uni. Somehow, I’m still here in the project. 😅
I have a few thoughts that I want to spew out real quick since I actually watched the video all the way through. 1. I commend all of your efforts. It's not easy managing even a small team of people, let alone volunteers. The fact that this crazy, hectic, and frankly insane project went on for as long as it did just shows the kind of work ethic you have. This isn't a failure, but one of the biggest lessons you will ever have. Be proud of all that you and your team(s) were able to accomplish. 2. From the beginning, as you stated, this seemed like an impossible project. Obviously building in Minecraft is faster than building in real life, but it took hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people to build all the buildings on Earth. The sheer numbers alone make this kind of mega project so outside of the realm of imagination. 3. (And this one sounds parasocial, I'm sorry) I've gotten the sense for a couple of years at least that this project was far too much for you to handle mentally anymore. Putting your whole career into one project can be risky, but I am glad you have come out to the other side of this thing and you can feel free to move on. Build the Earth is dead, long live Build the Earth. Cheers for the entertainment, and here is to the next chapter of life. o/
I just want to point out real quick that no, buildtheearth isn't dead. Pippen stepping back and changing the management structure of the project (which happened more than a year ago already) doesn't mean the project is discontinued.
Yes! 1) build the earth isn't dead but not in great shape either in my opinion but I hope the best for it. 2) We are forgetting the fact that he is a human!! Not Mr. Perfect and we all should rethink ourselves as in his boots before blindly just hating on him. (Man has a child, Pay isn't great, And he starts this and does for 3+ years) Incredible. He deserves criticism I agree but we all should remember that he is also a human and has put a lot of effort in this.
I think the Los Vegas build is pretty high quality all things considered, just remember, with most builds, there's almost always going to be a more idealized version in your head vs what is actually made

Thank you for this thoughtful and thought provoking video. I think you gave a whole lot of yourself to inspire others, and in that, even though it doesn't feel like it, you truly succeeded more than most of us ever could. I'm struggling myself too at this moment. But I believe it's really important to keep in mind that as long as we're alive, everything is possible, and a bright, new, exciting journey IS on the horizon, even if it's too far to see for now. Wishing you all the best, and I hope that you will take us along in your next journey. Take care, you're an amazing person.
I'm glad you decided what's best for you, and I'm happy that, after all, it wasn't lost effort. You guys created the biggest construction project on earth. Congratulations for everybody who participated, you are all amazing! Thank you for your effort. One day, things will change, and such a project will be able to move on again, in ways that don't overcharge anybody. Much peace for you all, thank you for this wonderful piece of art ❤
Replied to a comment of yours Pippen, though you allowed me to see something I didn't see in myself. Your journey over the past four years is very similar to mine. An interest of mine, trading the financial markets started because it was a trend. Ten's of thousands of dollars completely wasted and burned with no progress ever made. It is time I end this chapter for good. Thank you. I should have realized this a year ago, however I am doing it now. Cancelling everything and saying goodbye to my close trading friend. It is finished.
Best of luck in what you do next man, it was fun to be part of this chapter but overall I think it’s a good thing a lot of us moved on. Looking back people were taking this way too seriously lol
I wish humanity would come to the same conclusion as yourself, and stop building, just stop perpetuating the old way of things and begin to look at the world in a new and interesting way. It's time for change, and everyone is feeling it.
After watching this I’m re downloading Minecraft to come check things out ! Life’s a rollercoaster! You’re doing great and gota remember the earth is life and ! Life’s a roller coaster🙃
I understand that if something truly looks bad it should be fixed, but I swear those builders were going to get stuck in an endless loop of “this looks awful, we need to fix it before we do anything else” as their building skills kept improving.
