He was a Republican, but the parties flipped their agendas by early 20th Century. We definitely look a bit Liberal to a staunch Conservative Republican and look really Liberal to a R-wing Evangelical Republican. (But folks in a public as large as the USA are actually "a variance of their Party Choice", News Media forces us all to Right or Left and do so to create friction, cause issues, for their Power, and Profits.)
