This footage is international treasure, a cultural heritage.
it really is,. it's significantly unmatched in the intensity and belongs to be shot out into space.
I just saw Uli Jon Roth in Lakewood about a week ago. He still has his chops, even improvising a neo-classical piece while playing a nine-string Sky Guitar.
What he does is neither commercial nor everyone's cup of tea. But he is a remarkable musician and has so much to offer those who are willing to dig in!
Uli in his "Hendrixism"... just fantastic! Too bad he had left the group. To me, this is the group's best formation.
I totally agree, however, by the time Taken By Force was released, management had him playing 30 minute solos & trying to get Scorpions into playing 3 minute singles with Michael & later Jabs. You wouldn't have fit into that style of songs. I'm happy he went off to play in Electric Sun to really let his lead guitar rip on a couple of albums before he went into neo-classical nonsense. Great to see him back with Scorpions from time to time. Really did like the first two Electric Sun albums better than what Scorpions were releasing at the time.
@@marcstevens8576 I love both versions of the band and for me Lovedrive is the best album they ever made. (Mick Schenker is my hero). I never saw them with Uli but they are one of the best best bands I've ever seen live. My favourite Uli era track is Speedy's Coming and there are some brilliant vids on here with things like Sails of Charon live.
A friend of a friend went to see them live in Germany and was extremely pissed off when Klaus sang the whole concert in German, you gotta grin or you would frown lol.
Once Uli left, they became a girly man band.
Sin duda alguna.
Worst singer I’ve ever heard. I actually had to edit out his vocals on tracks like ‘chaplain and I’ on electric sun. Try to listen to that without laughing. Amazed they ever let him near a mic.
Such a cool era in the Scorpions timeline. All of "Uli Jon Roth" songs are like a mystical musical journey through the stars in the night sky.
It's their best era for me hands down. I like Matthias Jabs but for me there's a weird, heavy, otherworldly darkness to Scorpions early stuff that keeps calling me back time after time.
@@JoeyArmstrong2800 Agree with you totally as they had two different styles of songwriters going at it at the same time. There was Schenker & Meine, who wrote about half of the songs, while Uli Roth wrote the other half of them. It was great, as it really offered up a lot of both different & spaced-out stylings. It's a matter of opinion, however, their later '80's songs with Jabs playing lead, nothing against him, pretty much all sounded the same. Still love those early albums, except for Lonesome Crow. Music was very good, but what did they do his voice? Sounded like the vocal-track to a third-rate '60's Japanese horror film that we got stuck with on Creature Double Feature back on Saturday mornings.
@@JoeyArmstrong2800 exately, i only listen to uliscorp :)
@@JoeyArmstrong2800 Uli made the right decision on leaving Scorpions when He did. His styles of lead guitar wouldn't have fit in with the rest of them developing into a typical '80's band playing Four-minute hit, hard-rock songs. Nothing against Matthias what-so-ever, as he fit their later style perfectly. Still miss those old '70's albums like In Trance & Virgin Killer. They can't be replaced.
Tokyo Tapes is a must have Scorpions album
Absolutely, still an epic listen
I had a mint original copy,
Now they re-pop it.
I absolutely agree! I watched an interview with Uli and Klaus and Uli didn't know why people thought Tokyo Tapes was such a great album. He did go on to say that after he went back and listened to the album again he finally understood the reason why it was so good.
I would say it's mandatory!
@@thomasconway631 I have known about Toyko Tapes for close to 40 years. Never heard it until about 4 years ago on a road trip. Fantastic! Should have picked it up way back. Lesson learned.
This was the “DANGEROUS” Scorpions🦂🤘🏻
Wow so well said! Very true!
Very Great guitar work, so spot on and very talented! Very under rated. Love this guy!
For me, there is no better era of this band. Roth is one of the top guitarists in the world.
This is the best, definitive and killer version of this song.
Uli opening up with such tasty licks and riffs all with a smile on his face, it's the cherry on top of an awesome song
What I love about Uli is he's always smiling when he's playing, absolutely joyful
OMG! Been listening to this album for 40 years but I've never seen a live video of it- amazing!!
Uli Jon Roth playing Polar Nights is Amazing . The German Hendrix !
I would have given ANYTHING to be able to see this back in '77! I was truly obsessed with Uli's playing all through the 70s!
This is the best version of Scorpions in my opinion!!! Mind blowing footage!
Stop
For me on Tokyo tapes
I wholeheartedly agree. Although they became hugely popular later. The Uli Jon Roth era was amazing.
Un grupo que encantan soy un fan
This version could not make Scorpions as famous as right now
The guitar intro to this song reminds me of something by early Focus. Jan Akkerman is a phenomenal player.
Probably my favorite guitar player out of all of them. He’s like a wizard. 🤘🏽
THIS is the classic Scorpions era.
This is the first time I've ever seen Rudolf playing an Explorer! The Scorpions will always be my favorite band.
Same
Then you should know they are named Scorpions. Not The Scorpions.
The Scorpions ‼️🦂 ‼️
⚡🔥🤘⚡🤘🔥⚡
The drummer was also a phenomenal 💪💥🥁
Rudy Lenners
@@alexandergrosse2349 only non-german member of Scorps...ever. He is Dutch!
Best drummer they had
@@tedmich they've had other non-German members - James Kottak, Paweł Mąciwoda, Mikkey Dee. Not too many, though!
Uli Jon Roth❤ great riffs
Yep. A very underrated guitarist. There's a video where he recently played with the current Scorpion lineup. He plays three songs: Speedy's Coming, and two others that I can't remember off the top of my head. But, I was blown away with his playing. The video is still on here.
Wonderful Song...Thanks Aka JeanFrancois....You Rock...Bye 🙂
Loved this SCORPIONS period, it was like two bands in one sorta. 🦂🔥
This is like GOLD for fans of Tokyo Tapes and Uli era Scorps in general
This is Uli Jon Roth at his peak obviously. Incredibly masterful player . Tokyo Tapes is my number one favorite live album.
I first heard this song sitting in a car on an icy cold but clear winter day in 1976. It blew my mind and I was never the same. I finally got a chance see Uli play live a few years back in a club that was far to small for his talent.
My gosh did I have ever have a sheltered life!! My graduation year & I missed this awesome music. 63 now & I LOVE IT😅😅❤❤
lol yeah me too was into the Who , Zepp, Floyd, Bad Co etc. Became a fan in college, seen them 7 times!
The best Scorpions setting ever.
This dude is right there with so many of the greats!!
Best of the Scorpions.
I have never heard another guitarist blend classical and blues the way Uli does. How he slipped under the radar as one of the greats is is a head scratcher. You always hear people talk about Randy Rhoads playing classical,Uli was doing it before him. The sails of Charon is in my top 10 of all time!
Love this concert! Uli Jon is great! Love him with my favorite band The Scorpions forever. Listen to them all the time.❤❤❤❤❤❤Love
Wow ...😲this is the first time i see rudolf holding and playing explorer guitar..
Me too
HOLY S**T!!!! Uli is shredding!!!!
He always did it, even way before shredding was a thing
American TV never had live playing. This is great.
Can't get better than this 🤘
Very cool! Definitely one of Uli Jon Roth’s, more Jimi Hendrix inspired riffs.
They all are.
@@SeenACowSki -Many of his works, yes. Not all, however. “Sails of Charon”, was inspired by flamenco playing, Middle Eastern music, and Tchaikovsky.
@@TheJayrockerr Sails of Charon is an incredible song.
A little bit of Gypsy Eyes.
Fact
Incredible guitar work on this track & a rare occasion when Klaus didn't sing lead!
Great early scorpions. I love this band. Been listening for over 40 years!! WHAT A BAND!! No one like you.. SCORPIONS.. I m a rock believer!!!!!!! 🎸🎶🎵🎸
Никто не любит SCORPIONS??
Same here I've been a huge Scorpions fan since the love at first sting album in1984. 🤘🎸🇺🇲
This is "middle" Scorpions. In the early years there was Michael Schenker on gtr.
Ранние Скорпы просто улёт . Обожаю ! ❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for sharing this great abstract song and video.Capturing Ulrich Roth in his Scorpion prime incredible musician.
Very different from what music kind scorpions are best known for. Great to have this one also!!
Epic shredding from Uli John Roth. Great singing from him too. Awesome! Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🎸🎸🥁
Love this! Scorpions the best rock band in the world!! Listen to them daily❤
I love painting to Scorpions as loud as I can get it. Thanks for the upload!
WOW! That was freaking awesome! Uli is on fire! 🔥 I’ve always loved watching and listening to him play but this is on another level!
This song was pretty much A One-Man Show & was a spooky reminder of what Jimi would have been like, had He lived. Uli was the best lead guitarist that Scorpions, or any other band ever had, because he was both A Natural & did his solos with a smile on his face instead of later day others with their eyes closed and screaming for whatever. Nothing against either Michael or Matthias...
Wow as a long time fan of the Scorpions I never knew this, what a fanominal guitar player I just discovered 🙌🏼🎸
When I was 13, my uncle took me to see Scorpions and Iron Maiden. I think it was the Blackout tour. So I decided I'd buy every Scorpions album, not realizing just how long they'd been around. My first score was a rare Lonesome Crow vinyl. When I put it on, I realized I was going on a journey. I found a lot of stuff in the "budget bins" in record stores. German "Greatest Hits". Tokyo Tapes with the awesome "We'll Burn the Sky". And here I thought they had only put out the Mathias Jabs era stuff- Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, and Love at First Sting. But the Uli Jon Roth era just blew my mind. Sails of Charon? Frickin' amazing. I loved this band when it was really not cool to do so. I'm sorry, but Worldwide Live was the last Scorpions album I bought. I was just not a fan of the whistlin' Nineties material. But I still have my collection of the good stuff.
I saw the tour with Girls School, Iron Maiden and Scorpions. I didn't think much of Girls School that night, (they were excellent when I saw them open for Deep Purple a few years later). I did not like Iron Maiden until that night when they became one of my favorite bands. Scorpions owned, as they have each of the three times I have seen them.
That’s so cool!!
I seen the Scorpions open up for Rainbow’s Straight between the eyes tour. Without Dio as the frontman, NAH!! I was only there to see the Scorpions!!! During Rainbows set, the boys from the Scorpions came out and hung out in the crowd! Shook hands with all of them!! Best concert ever👍
@@MichaelMaxwell747I saw that tour in '82. I think Girlschool was there too. I found a site that has that line-up listed for 9/1/82 in LB CA. They had the setlist from that show!! I can't remember what everybody played, but they usually stick to a setlist for the whole tour, so chances are it was the same songs we saw on that tour! Pretty cool.
Same here, got into metal early 80's and bought ALL of their albums from the 70's - killer stuff!
@@mikedupont3716 Yeah, I was listening to DIO, Iron Maiden, Sabbath. Right before the Big 4 hit. Nice to know other people did the same thing. And for some reason, I started snatching up all the old Scorpions I could find. I checked import sections, budget bins... that's where I found most of it. So different from the '80s, but better IMO.
Soooooooooooooooooooooo appreciate this upload
There is no doubt that he created a unique style with a great vibrato and the famous taping that Van Halen and Steve Hackett were practicing as well.
Uli Jon Roth!.... foi,é e será um dos grandes! Mestre absoluto!👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Strats always! :-)
The times of Uli Jon Roth in the German band, the best time, gave a character of pure Hard Rock to Scorpion
Wow just wow. I liked this LP from the 1st note. I still listen to it a lot. This the 1st time I've seen them do it live! Uli is crazy good
This is one of The Very Few albums from the y genra of of rock that I can listen to from start to finish without skipping over lame songs.
@@marcstevens8576 100%
The Mighty Scorpions 🦂 Forever💙💪🤟
Listening to this live version reminds me of the time I first heard the album and this song in early 1978.
Hot rock set in a polar night.!
That Roland Jet Phaser!
Hot dam! That was Uli ripping on just a Strat and a Marshall. Wow 🤯
💥WOW!! What stunning music !! Many thanks for fantastic beautiful show!!🙏
My dream is to see a concert by Scorpions and Orchestra, with the participation of Uli Jon Roth here in Brazil. Recife awaits this event. ❤️😍🦂
Rudolf you are so amazing like Uli love scorpions 🦂 🎸🎤🎼❤
Uli John Roth - Champion & Legend
King of kings .....
Maestrooo!!!
Рот -вообще мастер высшей категории😊
Это Прекрасно!
Слышал на записях (катушки Basf рулили тогда... =))) ), но увидеть - Лучше.
Супер! Спасибо!
Incredible how different the band would sound in just a few short years.
Killer sound! One of my faves
Oh my god how it's pretty. Exactly that moment when 1 like is not enough! Thanks!
Wow Uli jon roth 😲😲👍👍👍
The Best scorpions 👍 ♏️ 👍
As long as you prefer the seventies style.
So good!
Rudolf Schenker: " Wow, I wish I could play like that..."
GOD‼️
So great to see so many of my favorite childhood tunes being performed live! Wow. Just realized dude's playing an Explorer.
When the scorpions really had a sting 💥🎸🦂
FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE 🔝🎸 BEST EVER 🔥OF🦂 🔝❤🎼THANKS 🙏 💯
Wow, I got the scorpions in the 80s so I’ve never saw this before 😮
A Great Video! I've Seen Uli Jon Roth In Concert Three Times And Met Him Several Times. He's Humble And Modest.
Old boy is high AF. Doing his best Hendrix impersonation.
My fav era is when Mattias came in up untill Love at first sting, that whole 5 year run is the best for me, but this era....... 77ish is nuthing short of incredible. That dude made Hendrix sound amatuer imo
very good................................................................
Intro by Jimi Hendrix?!? Just WOW...
I met Uli about 11 years ago at a music lesson he gave. Hes a down to Earth no "airs" and an amazing Human Being. Ironically i really didn't get into his Scorpions era music until I found a couple Scorpions cassette tapes at a truck stop in the early 90s.
A melhor musica e o melhor guitarrista do Scorpions de todos os tempos
Influenced a whole new wave of harder, heavier and faster music ! Thank you for the inspiration !
Tommy J Meatshits !
Uli is killing it and Rudy as usual hanging in the background playing in whoever’s shadow happens to be there at the time be it Uli, Matthias or his brother Michael .
True BUT Rudy wrote SO MANY amazing tunes ...No Rudy =No Scorps!
Uli is so kickass!
Uli the electric wizard Roth💪💥🎸
No comment other than The Song Speaks For Itself..
I'm 58 and I've heard almost everything, Hendrix,Page,Marino,Nugent,...
And I Love Uli. !!!!!!😮 Amazing Guitar
🤯😳🤯
Fantastic
Uli the best
Wow! 🔥👏👏👏👏💯
Uli is one of the best guitar heroes on the planet !
Boy, I sure see, as well as hear a lot of Hendrix in this song and performance. Uli is awesome, you sure can hear his influence here!!!
Man, I love how close he gets to Hendrix
In that opening solo I was just waiting for his picking hand to start hammering the neck along with his left, but we had to wait for Eddie to figure that out, but man I've never heard anyone as close to Eddie before Eddie as this guy.
Uli does not get the respect he deserves as a pioneer of the melodic shred. Incredible guitar player.
Dont know what you’re talking about because uli gets tons of accolades and is very highly regarded by guitarists
@@knightfall9394 he is not a household name. Few know of him unless they are fans of the old Scorpions. His genius should be recognized by more people. That is what I'm saying.
Van Halen in their early LA club days in the 70s played two Scorpions covers, Speedy's Coming and Catch your train. Uli somehow influenced Eddie.
Those songs are my favorite from the Uli era. I would have liked to hear Eds version..
I was forever a fan of Uli after hearing the catch your train solo. Its amazing.
All I can say is WOW
Uli 🔥🔥🔥
He undeniably studied Hendrix well 😎
マイケルシェンカーがいたデビューアルバムも素晴らしいよね。
15歳であの音楽才能にギターテクニック
まさに神だよ‼️
Awesome,,, Long live Early Scorpions😁🤘🏻
